What is going on with the game now, more and more people are smacktalking in local and some of it borders on being virtually racist (name will remain anon for this time). There used to be a time where you could go entire weeks without seeing people smacktalking in local but it is getting worse and worse. IMO, grow up, control your anger and then start playing again so we don't have to put up with needless smacktalk in local.
Thanks

Can't you petition people for racist remarks? I think CCP takes a seriously dim view of that sort of thing.   ============================================

I think it is an unavoidable result of more people playing. When EVE was happy to see 5,000 people logged in simultaneously there was less room for this. As it grows you get more idiots. Only takes some relative few to bollox up Local.
Mostly I ignore Local completely and hardly ever chat in there. If you see someone going too far (e.g. racist comments) by all means petition them. Some rant calling you names because you just blew them up is fine and expected but racism and threats to your IRL person/family and such go too far and I am pretty sure CCP will stomp on them.

Local's only reason for existence is to show you who else is in system. Short that, ignore it. I don't give two ****s if corp/alliance mates are profane/racist. --------------------------------------

Bet you would if someone was being racist to you. I am just fed up of people calling people every name under the sun. If you can't take losing your ship, do not PvP simple as that. And then there are the people that do it just for the hell of it. They annoy me the most. (rant should be over now)

If it is racism in your own corp then I think the appropriate actions would be:
1) Tell your corpmate to can it. 2) Bring your issues to your corp/alliance leadership. I think most corp/alliance leaders would take a dim view of this as well unless the whole thing was founded as a racist group (even then they have to know CCP may get after them so it is not in their best interests to willfully **** them off). 3) Petition to CCP and/or leave the corp.

Now here is the real question? Who is making a problem here? The people making the racist comments (and saying it like this already places it as something "bad"), or the ones taking offence from it? Seriously rasist comments only give me a laugh as it shows how ignorant and dumb people can be as they can't possibly know if I am american, european, black, white, whatever, unless I tell them at wich point you already gone wrong and should expect some level of insults, even then, care.

It's the people making the racist, sexist, homophobic and bigoted comments that are the problem. I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the player base resides in countries that have laws against this kind of harassing behavior.
That aside, disgusting behavior like that is against the eve CoC and is punishable. Petition it whenever you see it. ------------------------------------------------- **** Name ONE thing that your windows comp can do that my MAC cant

From past experience CCP really does not handle these TOS violation well. They go unchecked, unwarned and undealt with. I have reported many with screenies and nothing was done.

Not trying to derail this in any way, but imo people today have too thin skinned.. Are there people that go over the top? Sure, ingame and out.. if it's over the top, then it deserves action. Are there people that are sensitive to the point of absurdity, yeap... but don't point that out to them or you're being an insensitive bastard.. /sigh Candyland is going to be the death of us all.. ____________________

There are many ways to express your displeasure with someone and insult them without resorting to racial slurs (or other bigoted comments). There is no need or call for them in the game. Where is the line drawn or are you suggesting there should be no line drawn for this sort of thing? I bet if I knew you well enough I could say something to offend you.
Or imagine you are black or jewish or pick your group and someone in your corp was regularly making derogatory remarks. Thick skinned or not you would happily put up with that? Sooner or later I bet they'd annoy you.
You pay to play too and should expect a minimum level of civilized behavior from those you play with.

Note I didn't say that there weren't cases where racial slurs or bigoted comments didn't occur, I merely pointed out that anyone can deem anything offensive regardless, and that is part of the overall problem. (problem being petition response times for example) I've literally known people that filed petitions for getting smacktalked for being a noob.. cry me a freaking river.. grow up and realize that you're not living in a bubble. (not an attack on you but stated in relation to the preceeding example) ____________________

Maybe, you are being smacktalked in local because people don't like you. Maybe it's because bruce are so publically, pompously self-congratulatory about their general behaviour and achievements (HAHA) in game, that it attracts smacktalkers.
Hypothetically speaking: If you, as an alliance, stopped telling everyone how great you are, from public announcements to private chats, in spite of your total lack of achievement, then probably no one would bother to tell you that you suck balls.
The above is just a theory and does not in any sense represent my own opinion or the opinion of my alt or my cat or the alliance I'm not in.

On the contrary most countries have laws to protect the fact that you can say what you believe. Basically you are idiots if you allow yourself to be offended by internet chatter. Take responsibility for yourself, don't expect the rest of the world to adhere to arbitrarily laws so you can live in a little bubble.

I think "smack" is just an illustration of some flawed game mechanics:
-local channels -ease of sitting in a station and twiddling your thumbs
I am pretty certain the OP was unable to kill his smack assailent; had he been able to, there wouldn't be a thread on it.
If engagements were easier to start and people actually had to take risks and worry about their survival in EVE, I believe strongly that smack talk would be reduced.

Is that like bordering on being virtually pregnant? Either they were and need to be kicked or they weren't and you are whining. Really, the best thing to do with smack in local is to ignore it. They do it to get a rise out of you and it is working.

Exactly. Some smack is acceptable, and enjoyable even, but some smack is not. Not all smack is created equal, and I think the best smacktalkers know where the dividing line is, and know not to cross it. ---
