itt we discuss the new york times and evil goon pr tactics
Originally by: NYT and da CEO At the strategic level, coalitions involving tens of thousands of players struggle for months over strategic objectives or simply to wipe out their enemies. For at least a year the most powerful group in Eve has been an alliance known as Band of Brothers, a self-appointed evil empire with the stated objective of taking over the galaxy. Against them is arrayed a motley batch of self-styled freedom fighters with names like the Red Alliance (mostly Russian), Tau Ceti Federation (mostly French), GoonSwarm (mostly obnoxious) and the Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (mostly drunk).
As in any war, propaganda can be as formidable a weapon as a gun. Earlier this year a scandal erupted in which a CCP employee in Band of Brothers (known far and wide as BOB) was found to have improperly given his group technical blueprints that could have helped decide the war.
GoonSwarm, however, turned the incident to its sideÆs advantage by using the scandal to undermine confidence in the legitimacy of BOBÆs achievements. Since then, BOB has lost vast swaths of in-game territory and remains on the defensive.
ôWe did a survey in our database at the point of the controversy, and it turned out there were actually more CCP employees in GoonSwarm than in BOB,ö Mr. Petursson said yesterday. ôWhat happened first and foremost was that the controversy created demoralization within BOB and a downward spiral because they started to doubt themselves and the legitimacy of their achievements. GoonSwarmÆs P.R. campaign was effective in creating this impression, and a lot of people left BOB, I think, because of this idea. And kudos to GoonSwarm for having good P.R.ö
After all, thatÆs Eve.

Nice article, read it earlier today and loved the "Red Alliance (mostly Russian), Tau Ceti Federation (mostly French), GoonSwarm (mostly obnoxious) and the Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate (mostly drunk)." bit. But I didn't really knew where to post it and I think CAOD is the wrong place for this. So ... erm ... (bare with me, never did this before): IBTL? ___________________________

also the voices dispute the most obnoxious title attributed to your alliance. At least 50% of the voices (4 in total), agree that they are at least over 9000 above goonswarm. ---

This was one of the mos pleasant surprises I've had in a long while.
May your victories ever be preserved in the hallowed halls of left-wing American print media. Maybe FOX'll run an article praising BOB, just on general principle. As much as you may love me, your signature must pertain to your in-game persona, and thus I must remove it. -Conuion Meow |

Its always good to see EvE in the news. I think what I liked the most was how the difference between WoW and EvE was explained. I'm tired of MMO players getting lumped into WoW'er stereotypes.
The only thing I found incorrect in my opinion was referring to the Caldari as "militaristic" instead of "capitalistic"

I hope you aren't suggsesting that the Goondevs changed the game to bring about a favorable outcome for their alliance?
Because, we *know* ccp are, and always have been, 100% above board, amirite?

Personally I am glad that the Devs are lending the Goons a hand, and I hope it doesn't undermine the legitimacy of their acheivements in the eyes of the community.
