Uhhh, lots of people have been complaining about their framerates.
I get 10fps when undocked outside the station in FD- with 50 to 100 ships undocked. And 10fps when in the FFA arena with just 10 ships shooting eachother. I have a Core2Duo E6750 @3Ghz and an 8800GTS@620Mhz with 2GB Ram.
This is will FULL SETTINGS , with HDR and 1680x1050 resolution.
People posting about 40FPS must have low resolution, and low settings.
Essentially what I am getting at is saying "OMG CPP I GET 80FPS WOW!!!!" Is UTTERLY useless unless you state what hardware and settings you have, and what you were looking at.   ============================================

Maybe, just maybe, it is not that the engine needs that level of hardware, but there is a optimization issue somewhere there, and that is why they are testing the new engine?
I didn't say anything was at fault. I stated what I got and with what hardware. I agree that theres optimisation needed in the engine, and I have seen a dev reply that said they are improving it all the time.
My point was that I wish people would stop posting FPS without saying their settings and hardware, because thats just useless info to everyone, INCLUDING CCP. Posting your FPS, settings, and what you were doing is sure to HELP CCP in optimising for peoples systems. No?   ============================================

but I did
Quote: Surprised as in running the whole thing with HDR on (no bloom tho), low shadows, and everything else on in 1280*1024 resolution at 30-40fps OUTSIDE the station.
This with my old xp-m 2500+@2800+, 1gb ram and a X1600 pro.
And how many ships were undocked with you? Was it in FD-?
With 0 ships around me at a station I get 80FPS. In FD- I get 10. See my point?   ============================================

Running around 70-80 FPS in space, when its fairly empty, and 30-40 in a crowded level 4 with Bloom at medium, it drops to just over 30 with bloom at high in open space and nudging towards 10-15 in a crowded location with bloom all out. So that seems to have the biggest performance hit. Also shadow detail makes quite an impact.
Running AMD X2 3800+, 2GB DDR2-667 with a ATI x1950 Pro.
What resolution are you running at? I agree that bloom is a big culprit, and shadows too. SO thats all the eye-candy then :(   ============================================

1400x1050, i'll edit in the exact color settings once i get home in a couple of hours.
Running with Shadows medium and bloom medium gives pretty good looks with very good performance, so i use that as a compromise.
Cool, I hope CCP is readong some of these performance related threads, I'm sure its a good mine of information. I'm going to tinker with my settings when I get home, I am determined to have it playing smooth at 1680x1050, I wont accept lower resolution, I like my space to HAVE SPACE!
Yes I realise I said the 'm' word.   ============================================

Originally by: ry ry and yet before trinity there was a large contingent of players who demanded a no-frills client (possibly with ASCII graphics, 640x480 resolution and 4 colours) for people who's computers didn't have MOAR ALPHA.
can't please everybody all of the time, but better FPS with everything turned off and lower FPS with everything turned on is as close as CCP will realistically get.
the new engine is deeply sexy.
Except that CCP said we would most likely see a performance increase from old to new. In my opinion there is no point designing a 'deeply sexy' client if you get <20 FPS in a 10 man fight.   ============================================

You can use the 'old' client, and have your current performance. Just dont download the new content    ============================================

Swicthing HDR off and Shadows to Normal or Off with 16xQ AA makes the new graphics look _good_ and you get playable FPS even with 100 ships on screen. As I have just been testing on SiSi.
Theres some fixing for CCP to do with their shadows I think.   ============================================
