Forsaken Resistance The Last Stand

My wife and I recently moved into a new apartment and there's only one set of keys. As she generally gets off work slightly earlier than I do she generally has them with her and I make sure she's home before I leave work.
One morning she went to work early (around 7:30AM, the time I get up) and i went through my usual morning routine, noticing that it's about 40 degrees and looking like rain and making sure to grab my coat and take my wallet+ metro card (for the bus) out of my work shirt from last night to put in my jacket.
I then leave the apartment, locking the door behind me. I then walk 5 blocks through the rain to the bus stop, only to realize as the bus pulls up that I don't have my metro card, or any cash. I walk 5 blocks back to my apartment and check the door...definitely locked. ****. Well my wife went to an early lesson and should be back soon, hopefully. So I sit my ass down outside the apartment and wait. After a couple of minutes it starts to rain. After a couple of more minutes it starts to rain harder. I call my wife, only to realize that my cell phone battery is a heartbeat away from death. Determined not to let this evade me, I compose a text message to send to her, alerting her of this inconvenient situation.

I then realize I forgot to pay the cell phone bill.

God. Damnit.
It's about 10AM now and it's been raining for about 1.5 hours now, and I'm drenched. Well I wait around some more, determined to find some sort of solution to this problem, but there is only one that comes to mind. I have to walk to my wife's work. Thankfully, where she works is only about ten minutes away from where we live, by car.
So I start walking, taking the only route I know to get to her workplace. This is along a fairly popular highway with no sidewalk of any kind, so I spend alot of time being splashed, rained on, and unnervingly close to receiving a side-mirror to the chest. 45 Minutes later I finally get there, soaking wet. My wife, of course, finds this hilarious and proceeds to mock my stupidity for several minutes until I barter some of my dignity for the use of her work phone, and I call my workplace and tell them that I won't be coming in today.
Eventually my wife drove us back home and I crawled into bed and slept for a couple of hours.
