Length?.... The first weekend after cod4 came out I went to a lan party for a clan of a friend of mine, most of those guys already had the game so I loaned it from someone for the weekend, it was about 2 am sunday, we did multiplayer for about 4 hours then some went to bed other went to do a game i didn't have and ofcourse no one had a spare copy, so i did the single player, I ended up playing trough the whole thing, I did the plane mission while eating breakfast at 12am.
This summarises into about 5 hours to play out the storyline as a did take a few short breaks.

ok so if im reading everything correctly, the servers will be down the day of the 4th for ccp to update the server, and then the 5th we will be able to login and get the new client and such, or is it down the 5th and we will be able to play on the 6th.

Me and my friends still play it and infact, there are community patches released occasionally. I love it :D The whole FPS/RTS thing was ahead of it's time

What will I do on the 5th.
1. Denial
I will come home and log into Eve. It will reject me. I will try to see if SISI is up. It will reject me. I will, in a sweat and panic, log into Tranquility again....again....again...all the while panic will be building! I will start yelling NONONONONONONONONONONONONONO!
2. Anger
Once it sinks in that Eve is down for the count, I will start yelling at the comupter and damning CCP to hell. No doubt I will have a short skill on to add fuel to my righteos wrath. I will yell at the children, kick the dog and pick a fight with the wife.
3. Despair
After the kids hide, the wife slams the door to the bedroom and locks it and the dog runs away I will sit at the keyboard and cry. "Why? Why is this happening to me? What god did I offend. How could the world hate me so much. Eve, I need you, don't turn your back on me. I...I..I think I love you...
4. Back to denial.
In the depth of the depression it will occur to me that maybe Eve will come back online early and if I log in repeatedly I might luck out and be the first back in!
5. And anger again
Windows will ***** up at having 150 sessions of Eve client running with me trying to convince the client it can really connect despite what the server might be saying. Windows will crash and the yelling, crashing and tossing of peripherals around the loungeroom will start again. This will wake up the wife and kids and start the dog howling in terror and peeing on the carpet.
6. Despair
The computer gives in and won't restart. It reckons that my hard drive is corrupted. 3 hours of 150+ clients running and BSOD has finally flagellated Windows into scrambled eggs and sloppy poo. I howl uncontrollably. Oh yeah and the wife has taken the kids to a hotel for the night. She said that I need to see a psychiatrist (me? It is CCP's fault not mine!!) and that I should expect to hear from her solicitor. (Does he play Eve too?). She would have taken the dog but it has chewed all the hair off it's nether regions and has started frothing at the mouth. It tired to bite her so she gave up. All this fuss has distracted me from Eve. I get on my wife's computer....maybe Eve is back up by now...
And so it goes on. Dec the 5th.

I'll be sleeping / working so it'll pass by quite painlessly for me hopefully.
Won't be able to log in until Saturday at the Earliest so hopefully things will have settled down by then and I won't have to wait hours to get the patch either

No it's not the 24 hours of down time. It's the 200,000 users that are going to flood the server that day to get a look at things.... So it's really about 36 hours of no eve.
