I was a conventional computer user before EVE. the guidance I received from my housemates, who introduced me to EVE, led me to conclude additional characters means more utility, so I started 3 characters before leaving for the Army... and put my characters on a 3 year training plan. shortly thereafter, I sought out a multi-monitor video card, stuck it in my dell along with an upgraded power supply, and found matching monitors. Because I was so busy those three years, I didn't "feel" the first 50 million SP. It would have been nice if I started -five- characters, but I don't hold it against myself, because five was beyond my comprehension of EVE and computer hardware. without EVE i'd still be a chump with 1 monitor my housemates were dual-monitor types for the longest, and made the jump to 3 (and still are) after seeing pictures of my setup on facebook while I was away. I've made the jump to six, with the capability for 12, but they never gave chase I remember that moment well: "OK. what's EVE all about." ...and between you and me: in effect, I started playing about a year ago. I made up my mind to stay subcap from the beginning, but I wish I had focused on cruisers and below. in terms of enjoyment, starting these characters was one of the smartest things I've ever done. They're at 75m SP and at this point finishing "subcap: all" is a no-brainer. Commissar Kate, 7 says hi. and other things, but I won't repeat them. I notice my mood and motivation get dumpstered when I have sugar. carbs are ok, but things like fructose and even simple sugar in fruits will sandbag me. a lot of people have no idea much their thoughts can be influenced by the food they eat, and it's easy to make the mistake of attributing mood to the last thing that you noticed. the mind is a problem solver and is quick to assign meaning to things you experience outside of you, to explain feels, without looking at what it's done to the body... which is a machine that is capable of functioning without the mind, and will for the most part react the same way to things it experiences like food or level of rest. a huge mistake a lot of people make is thinking the mind is in control of the body, perhaps a 90/10 split... but I think it's the other way around. the best chance the mind has in managing the body is in the way the body is maintained and fed. in the case of the sugar trigger, a jelly donut could cause a bad mood 45 minutes later, and without a bit of awareness that person isn't likely to make the connection. alcohol is an obvious one, that people use to feel good, and then need more to feel good again the next day... but a lesser-known fact is caffeine has a similar effect. among the things it does, caffeine causes a release of dopamine but then blocks it for four times as long. caffeine and coffee are socially acceptable, but those people are better off sleeping and eating properly, and not just to their own benefit but also the people around them at home/at the workplace. for some people it's impossible to acknowledge the mind and body are distinct entities, due to personal beliefs, or acknowledging their biology would be too disturbing. another implication of always being angry is the possibility that the person's body is addicted to the emotion or the rush. and i mean on a chemical level. the way i see it, a lot of people who get angry often can be written off as addicts. to the blood pressure, adrenalin, all those anger hormones. they enjoy it. other people just need to rip someone's head off every once in a while to feel superior. a lot of people don't see mood as a personal responsibility. I think that's a lot of people and includes most coffee drinkers and a good portion of people who are overweight. (holy hell rain, check your opinions at the door plz) I think it's a result of the egalitarian way of thinking, that all people are legally equal, and must therefore be born equal, so if I don't feel good it must be due to something in my environment. the good news is people who get this under control are at an advantage in getting their body to follow the mind's will. for me, that will is play video games forever.
