still , can't they really think of something else than remaking old films I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire |

Because new movies / new IP are too much "risk".
Small dramas and so on can get produced, but if you want new big budget movies then dont hold your breathe. They cost too much to make nowadays that they cant risk a flop. (John Carter)
Reboots of successful films are less of a risk because they know people will go see it even if only to moan about it, but that still generates ticket sales etc.
The other issue is the crop of 70s / 80s directors are still dominating and not many new directors are coming in. Spielberg and Cameron have changed from making action movies to Dramas (Or in Camerons case Dances with Wolves in space) which is normal since they will change as they get older. Even Michael Bay is getting pretty lame with just making transformers. I still have hope for Jerry Bruckheimer though.
The new directors can only get established on existing franchises like star trek etc rather than new material.
I could be wrong about this, but thats my angle on it from looking from the financial risk / analysis standpoint which I'm pretty sure the studios would use.
In other words originality is just too risky which is a damn shame!
Although I didnt enjoy John Carter much tbh.[/quotue] well lets us hope they NEVER do a remake of a Kbrick film that will really be the end of the world I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire |
