I'm looking at making a character who is an armor tank. I know Ammar (o r I think I know) are the best armor tanks? So I'm looking for a rce that isn't as known for thier armor tanking. Something that will suprise people when they see that you ARE armor tanking. Can anyone toss some suggestions my way please? Thank you!

Noobs (me) who ask stupid questions are noobs and can get smarter... non-noobs (you?) who give stupid answers are still stupid and must not have much hope left in getting smarter.... ;)

They are the shield tankers. Maybe a HP buffer fit could surprise them. Would be fun to see people dealing EM damage to your rokh only to realize that the armor isn't going down anytime soon, thanks to these plates you fitted ;)

MWD-Torp-Armour Tanking Raven... kekekeke
All the other races (including Minmatar) commonly armour tank.

So I'm thinking then a Raven so you won't be wasting the shield bonus that the Rohk gets?
5 lows isn't exactly what the Ammar get but its' comparible to the Minmatar so an amor tank would be doable, yes?
Are there any good guides out there on armor tanking? Right now I do passive shield tanking on a drake for PvE so I'm not familiar with all the ins and outs of armor tanking. Thanks again for all the answers!

Hehe the point of this is that I want to make a character in a ship to armor tank that people won't suspect is going to armor tank. So if I grab a ship that is MADE to armor tank... well... they might suspect something. ;)
Cheers!

Its a cool idea that a lot of people get when they start the game, but in the end its a bad idea.
You will surprise people with an armour tanked raven, however, It dosnt mean that they wont melt your ship in seconds. Ships that are meant to fit one type of tank, generally are very poor at fitting any other type.
You wont even really receive an advantage in pvp from "surprise" either. It simply means your sheilds will be knocked down much faster than usual, and your armour will last considerably longer than usual. Since both tanked armour and shields usualy have the exact same resists, your ability to tank just boils down to how many slots you can devote to it.
So really, the "surprise" your enemies are going to get is seeing LAR IIs and EANM IIs on your raven's killmail. ---

Unbonused Ewar is pretty bleh imo, and if you are talking about a raven, soloing, you are only going to get two slots for it anyway.
That is better than a the norm I guess.

For pvp, the best Raven setup includes an armor tank, 6 mids for damps/tds/ecm/mwd, missiles high.
I'm not saying this from my opinion, it pretty much IS the best pvp setup for a raven :-p

Actualy she has come to expect it from me. I've never been good with names so I don't bother trying. She doesn't bother trying to rememebr phone numbers since she's not good remembering them. So instead I carry around a planner with names I need to remember and such. She programs ALL the numbers she needs to know in her cell phone and on her pda. What this has to do with Non-ammar armor tanking I'm pretty sure has something to do with me calling something by the wrong name? Maybe spelling it wrong? Either way, awsome post completely off topic and letting me get back to the top so more people can read it and give me wonderful advice on what to do with my armor tanking Caldari raven (or something there bouts). Cheers!

Claude, listen to the wisdom above. "Suprise" tanking is when you tank a typical gank ship. EG triple rep mega with a low damage fit. This is so when a small gang (cause if it's big your tank doesn't matter), calls you primary because they think you'll die quick - you end up tanking them for a long time and swing the battle to your gang's favour.
Very bad tanking as you are suggesting will just make you look stupid on killmails, it won't influence the battle at all. You COULD hull tank an abaddon and get like 30-50,000 hp (i think) but you will still die horribly.
Passive armor tanking is quite possible, I have a 230,000 effective hp Abaddon on sisi which survives most FFA gangs - they tend to get bored after about 5 minutes and switch targets.
