There's been some great changes to EVE lately, and the changes to overheating modules were long overdue and warmly welcomed.
However, the current 'flashing' animation to show that you have clicked overheat isn't really much more helpful than not having it at all, whilst it shows you that you have clicked it, it doesn't show if you have clicked it to activate overheat, or deactivate overheat.
Now you may be thinking "well it's pretty obvious if you had it on before, then clicked it it means it's gonna switch off..."
Well yes, it is pretty simple perhaps, sitting outside a station idle activating and deactivating overheat it seems pretty neat.
But when you're mid-fight out numbered, taking structure damage, and your primary target is seconds from death, and you're micro-managing overheating 5 other modules whilst manual piloting, it's a gets a bit confusing and a bit tense to have your 90% heat damage afterburner sitting there just flashing at you like "hey, what u gon do now fool?"
I really think this could be improved very simply by having the overheat icon simply change colour, quite like activating and deactivating a module, have a colour for 'i am overheating next cycle' and a different colour for 'i am deactivating overheat next cycle'
Has anybody else found this to be frustrating? Would this idea be something anyone else would like to see changed?

Color differences can be difficult for those who are color blind. You may wush to use both the flashing and color change to be fair to all. |

Good idea. Lack of this drives me nuts. Apparently we're getting censored now. |

Quick bump and also, changing the colours is just an example of how this could be improved really, anyone got any other ideas how it could be made clearer as to whether the module is about to activate overheat or deactivate overheat? Would love to hear them! |

You can change the frequency of the blinking for overheat on and off. Can also have the light move, maybe shift to 10 o'clock position for deactivating while turning read, then center and off for off, 2 o'clock position for activating. Could also use red and green for turning off and turning on while blinking. That way you have several differences to account for how different people react to different stimuli. And it would most likely look 'awesome (TM)' as well as being functional. |

I don't care what color/convention is used. The bottom line is that overheating should be just as obvious as activating a module and it's not I scam on my main |

Flame animation above the modules being overheated. Make it purple for all I care, just make it obvious.

i like the idea of different colours. to help color blind ppl ccp could just make the overload button a bit bigger (not too much) and put a green light to the left and a red light to the right. something like this image |

Also, I'd like a real-time update of the overheated module, you only seem to get a good read-out of the amount of damage once the module is taken off overheating.. |

Because they still receive damage from the heat after the actual overheating has been turned off.

Agreed.
Also make it so that when a module is flashing and has an image larger than the circle, I can still see the actual heat damage progress. As of now, with those two things, I can't see the damage very well in some cases and not at all in others. |
