Hey guys.
The PvE and mining part of the game doesn't interest me so much so I'm trying to dive right into PvP. Before I shop around for a PvP Corp I was wondering what I should do to become at least semi-useful to them. I've heard tackelers are easy to start?
My character is about two days old with just learning skills so far. He's also a Minmitar if that makes a difference.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would say just join a corp and see what they need. We can all tell you start your ship, guns, and support skills but your corp may need you in certain ship with special skills at first and then want you to train up other skills.
This is of course only my opinion. ________________________

Electronic warfare (and ergo the caldari cruiser "Blackbird") will make you immediately useful. EW includes sensor dampeners, target jammers, warp disruption, stasis webs, etc. It can take a while to get everything up to level 4 but once you've got it there everyone and their mother will want you.
Now realize that "want" means they either want you in their corp or they want you taken out first in a fight. Luckily blackbirds are cheap. ...in bed. |

TBH your skills are less of an issue than your attitude. If you're friendly, helpful and willing to learn then the rest will come naturally.
As others have said, the quickest route is interceptors - these are pretty easy to skill for. But you're right to say that in PvP, tackling is likely to be your main role at first. The Rifter is the classic new-guy frigate, and can be very effective. Focus on your navigation skills and propulsion jamming at first (damage the tackler does is a bonus). Directing your skillplan to flying a T2-fitted Stilleto should take about, I dunno, 6-7 weeks? They're cheap for T2 ships, and very fast, with role-bonuses for tackling.
Another extremely useful role for the new guy is to scout with his cheap ship for the expensive ships of his corpies. Learning good scouting procedure will make you popular.
By about 3 months you should be looking at flying cruisers in PvP, and be making enough ISK to fund that.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Blackbird can be gotten into very quickly. Just be warned, everybody and their dog will try to gank you, because ECM ships are *that* dangerous if left to their own devices. Its a good way to get good at BMing, warping to distances, and learning when to bug out :)
Electronic Attack Frigates wouldn't take that long either. Think really fast wtbffq ecm ship.
Beyond ECM, any ship w/ tank and points on the target is useful. A thorax bring both a web and point, good dps, solid speed, and a nice HP buffer. I can't think of a general issue gang that wouldn't like another thorax tagging along.
I don't really like T1 frigates, but the kestrel, merlin, rifter, punisher, tristan and incursus all can be useful. Web + scram, maybe focus your DPS on TII ogres or something.

A Minmatar/Brutor/Slave Child can be in a 2.5k m/s Rifter or 4k m/s Vigil that has the ability to fit a mwd/point/web in something like 24 hours after being created. I'd go that path if you want to be useful in PVP ops as soon as possible.

Being able to scramble is all you need to start with if you are in a gang or group and anything else on top will be a bonus.
This isn't skill dependent but just takes practise. Learn to locate stuff quick with your built in scanner. If you can scout and locate a target and then tackle it that is very usefull.

In my opinion Griffin (or w/e the caldari ecm frig is called) -> Blackbird -> Electronic Attack Frigates (coming in a few days) is the way to go.

First of all stay away from interceptors for the time being. They need a lot of isk to fly, die easily, and need a ton of skills to fit properly.
The first thing you need to know, is that PVP means loosing ships. Much more often so as a new player. Be prepared for that, both isk-wise and mentally.
As a minmatar, a good way to start is a tackling rifter, train up skills for a warp disruptor and a microwarpdrive. Keep in mind that you will need to fly a battleship soon-ish, its what makes the isk for the average pvper, and necessary for large scale pvp.
Look around the alliance forums and join a decent corporation, they will teach you some basics and throw a few rifters your way. Keep in mind, however, that very few decent pvp corps will accept you with less than 15 days (trial period) in your bio.
Good luck. ----

My suggestion
Get into a Heavy Tackler like a Stabber
Work on your skills that are based around the following
Points - Warp Jam & Web - Electronics & Enginer ( Cap ) Speed - Navigation (speed & efficient cap ) & Mech - (fitting speed modules)
Stabbers are a very decent tackle and will survive a little longer then the frigate tackles
Once you get some extra SP , think about a Hurricane that can put out some very decent DPS

Fly on pvp ops as much as you can.
Experince worths moer then skills.
Everyone in the corp you join should know that it takes time to train the skills, so skills should not be such a problem.
Even with 1mil SP you can do enough trouble to the enemy.

well absolute quickest would be train the skills listed at the bottom and run tackler, it's cheap, quick to do, and usually can never have to many of them.
frig to 3 propulsion jamming target painting sensor linking
those are the skills you'll need, although things like afterburners are nice, they're not required. once you have those skills it's just a matter of what they'll need you doing but in most cases it'll be a frig setup with statis webs and painters so that larger ships like a dred can hit the smaller ones however sometimes they'll want you doing sensor damps, hints sensor linking __________ [-WSI-] "In the name of God, impure souls of the living deal shall be banished into eternal damnation.
