I had my 1st run in with these last night and lost my ship trying to leave a2v heading back towards empire. I had no idea they pulled you out of warp, I dropped in more than 30km short of the gate. Load in lag due to the visual effect was also immense, my ship was gone before I even had chance to see it. There were about 10 ships at the gate, but I'd come out that way only a few minutes earlier (the girlfriend called saying she was coming around so had to head back ) and minus the disruptors the scene loaded up fine. Are they designed to pull people out of warp? I guess it could have been the load-in lag that caused me to drop short but I've never experienced this before.

Edited by: fras on 08/03/2004 09:40:10 I thought the point of them was to stop ships warping away. So if this is the case then you could use them mid warp from gate to gate.. That's a proper trap!

The're designed to pull you out of warp adn stop you warping. They are warp disruption fields and so negate the effects of warp in the effected area, ie pull you out of warp.

Surely if you drop out of warp you'd do so on the edge of the field and could just turn around, move out of the field and warp clear again (assuming you had a little bit of speed, shouldn't need that much)? Or do they drop you a little way into the field?

WTF????
They do pull you out of warp???
This is ridiculous, as people will set them up and start camping in mid-space on the distance between 2 stargates

Well, I don't really see any reason to "fear" someone that can't figure out stuff like this on their own.
And if this works, we'll soon have petitions flooding CCP and huge ammounts of whining on the forum.
So, if this works, remove it asap CCP.
I mean, the sentry guns in 0.1-0.4 space will mean ****.
People will use it in safe systems. I mean, without the sentries opening up, there's no problem for frigates to kill industrials before concord prevents it.
0.0 space will be... well, very insecure to say the least.
And travelling will take loooooooooong time.

Virtually impossible to run the gate I'd say. No instajump bookmark. Fast frigates die before your screen loads up(my ship was fit out to go well over 2kms). Only way through is by brute force.

They don't pull you out of warp. They never were designed to and never did. Only explenation I can see for someone to be within 30KM of the gate when warping in is something that started happening to one of my buddies when he's mining: He set up bookmarks to jump to his can with his indies. A few days ago he would jump in 1KM from the can, now it's totally random it seams with BM's. He jumps in 20K, 30K even 40K from his bookmark. This could have been changed in the last patch and is preventing insta jumps, and has nothing to do with the Mobile Warp Disruptors.
I cold be wrong.

I ran into a few of these the other day whilst on my way to check out a dropped pirate log. Amusingly, the F-E had named them 'Jovian Portals', which kind of threw me for a few split seconds.
Anyway, I jumped in and upon flying around was immediately locked by multiple F-E battleships. So I warp to the nearest planet, and a Scorpion follows me and starts letting fly with Tachs and missiles. Luckily I was in the Tristan GTi, which can cruise quite happily at 10Km/s for quite some time, allowing me to get away.
I went back to the gate, and they had taken a few of the disruptors down for some reason, but one of them was pretty close to me. However, it was not directly in my way, so it didn't drag me out of warp. Where-ever they put them; they were in the wrong place, because I managed to warp to and from the gates with little trouble.
Basically what I am saying is that I have run into multiple disruptors, and they can't cover every nook of a gate (unless you have loads) so they aren't the be all and end all of insta-jumps. Also, the large ones take a huge beating; I set one up on Chaos and it took about 5 minutes of multiple Raven bombardment to kill it. Nasty, especially considering the 80Km diameter of effect...

From what I understand you cant anchor these anywhere that is empire space, so 0.1 -0.4 are low sec, are still empire space. Im not even sure if you can anchor them in gehi. They do gank you out of warp, had acouple corp mates get podded this way. Anyway my two cents, If Im right and they can only be anchored in non empire controlled space, I think they're a great idea, and campers have no reason to be upset about sentry guns.

thats a good point.
If u can put one inbetween 2 gates in a 0.4 security space, u now have the problem of folks ganking everything that comes along mid space, without sentry gun probs, that may prove to be a problem.
I think they are a good idea, came across quite a few of them, ill see how it all works out.

Of course the answer to this would be to warp to the sun then to the other gate rather than warp straight across. Much more avoidable than gate gankers, so I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Warp to a planet - then warp to the next gate.
Different vector = avoid disruptors.

yeah right, so now when traveling through 0.1-0.4, you think it's cool that we now to have to warp to the sun and then to the gate just to get through? ---------------------------------------

urmmmmm, im talking about killing random dudes that may struggle to spot rats, security hits are pretty easy the now, u could prob kill tons of ships before its a problem, so knowing who is a rat can sometimes b tough .
u think the haulers will b happy?.
doesnt make much of a diff to me.

Trust me they do pull you out of warp, thankfully i was in a shuttle, but i got podded all the same.
If it wasn't that that pulled me out of warp, I'd like to know what targeting and warp disruption equipment Zen of the Forsaken Empire was using as I was well over half way between gates when he got me

They are NOT. Only way to escape is to get out of range or destroy it. But even the smallest version has 12500 HP...

Wow! I find it strange that there would be a device without a countermeasure... Would be interesting to get a dev's point of view in this thread. Maybe countermeasures are not in the game yet... Lickspittle? TomB? Any input?

You need to move out of the scrambler's field. So the countermeasures would be anything that allows you to move out fast...

Edited by: Baun on 09/03/2004 03:31:45 It answers my questions, except for 2.
First (and most importantly), can you capture these? This is to say can you unanchor them once you have disabled it (somehow).
Second, does CA really have a BPO for this and were they really using it in a2-v27.

1. CA were using 2 small disrutpors in U-Q yesterday when we attacked.
2. I highly doubt any BP is in the game yet :/
3. Don't know if they can be taken. We destroyed them (or well, I didn't, but someone shot them before anyone could try un-anchoring them ).

There must be a BP in game, as there is already a steady supply of them from a particular source and i doubt he would mask pirate drops as a manufactured good as people would otherwise be willing to pay more for them.

Oh, let the ganking begin. Just imagine, a group of players deploy one of these lovelies in the region near a2-v or there, with a group of bs's and BB's there to tank them all to hell, as anyone in Yulai awhile ago may be familiar with. They could affectively close down one of the largest, richest regions of space. I can just hear the GM's sweating themselves now over what they've done.

I'm fairly certain it doesn't actively pull you out of warp, it prevents *landing* in it's area of effect from a warp. If you are set up to land in its area of effect, you will instead land right outside of the area of effect. Just an educated guess. --- The Tarsis Shriners |
