Sum it up... because of video games, people are watching less and less TV.
Personally, I find interactive entertainment (playing a game) infinitely more enjoyable than statically watch a TV program.
My daily consumption of TV is about 1 hour. 2 back to back episodes of the simpsons. and 4-5 hours of gaming per day. More on the weekends.
How about you? How much TV time do you spend, when compared to Game time?
And personally, Online RPGs are the biggest consumers of my time. First was UO, then AC, now Eve.
Your thoughts How much TV-time vs Game-time do you spend?

Edited by: original on 08/03/2004 17:45:54 what is this TV you speak of? I just download episodes of aqua teen hunger force and watch em on my computer. Although I have been known to watch some dvd's on the TV.

I listen to TV it's the new radio, haven't owned a radio since the early 90s, it's a lost concept, sorta like the trade channel.

I usually have my TV on for background noise when I am on the computer.
Also, a buddy of mine tells me that a psychology professor of his said that playing video games can help raise your IQ as they help build problem solving skills. The professor is from the University of Illinois, which we both attend. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I don't watch TV at all, I can't stand commercials and if I saw another one I couldn't be held liable for what I'd do. So I just download what I want to watch. But I definatly play games more than watch TV.

Yes, of course people who play alot in a game do not watch TV as much. But at least when one plays a game like Eve one is actually "doing" something as opposed to just passively watching TV. I think that playing games is not worse than watching TV and probably is better

Movies are about all I watch on TV, unless there's a really good documentary by Horizon or the such.
I also really enjoyed Time Commanders, being a bit of a wargamer geek
I split my time pretty evenly between PC gaming, painting my figures for warhammer fantasy battles (even play the occasional game ) and the odd evening roleplaying (old fashioned pencil and paper stuff).

I watch TV for movies and sports.
But then again I haven't been a big TV buff since dial-up BBS's and if you didn't have a 2400 baud modem with MNP you were a PD R0dent lamer l00ser.

I've wondered that for a while. I'm betting games like EVE and other RPGs can actually raise your IQ when compared to TV.
Even games like command & conquer, starcraft, etc, help you build complex problem solving abilities.

No seriously, EvE is less likely to involve problem solving whatnots than the other games you mention, think about it for a bit and youll see what I mean. ----- [22:02] <Kurenin> anyhow, on a more serious note, what did you think of those ideas? [22:02] <Hammerhead> we can't do anything that requires programming

Agreed. Computer games like EVE actually involve the player. TV is just a couch potato experience.
I haven't watched much TV except for news since I discovered Earth and Beyond, my first MMORPG, almost 2 years ago as of today
I would say that games like EVE definitely involve intelligence. Counterstrike however I believe is responsible for the incredible drop in intelligence in the United States

I like BBC World as backround when playing EVE :) When I'm getting tired and #@*&^ of EVE, I'm reading books :) IMO TV is much more useless time-eater than computer games. ______________________________________________________________________ Do I look like pirate? |

Edited by: Queen Claire on 10/03/2004 08:37:35 There's only junk on TV anyway. This is the country of the "reality-tv" and "docusoaps" (sweden) But sometimes there are an occasinal good movie on public service. But I'm gonna get an xbox to kill that last 1 TV-hour per day...
I have connected my TV to my computer, so it's mainly for watching DVD and films that I have on my computer. Wich is 95% anime...

I havent watched much TV in a long time. Most of it is crap, lowest common denominator docu-soaps and "reality" shows. Total garbage really. My TV is used for PS2 and DVDs.
The other night was mining and playing FFX-2. I guess I need to get out more.

I'm up in the mountains, and you need satellite to get any channels here. I never got a subscription (the house we rent came with a dish) when we moved in last June, so I've gone without TV for as long as I've been playing EVE... tho' that's just a coincidence.

We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.

Depends what's on the history channel. My kids usually lock the other two TV's up. I prefer playing online anyway. So about 1-2 hours a day...maybe, and significantly more time online.
