Well peeps, after reading loads of forum posts and the phrase "Troll" coming up regualry i would like to know what this is aside from the general term of a large beastie living under bridges and demanding a toll to cross. Maybe it is because i don'tunderstand txtspk maybe. please help me, cause i would love to know the ingame meaning of a troll

The best description is someone who says something unkind in an effort to illicit a retaltiatory response or incite an argument

At least get your facts before you nerf signatures, You just removed the picture of a dead Santa, and not the text where he was told to just pay the ransom, and THEN it was eve related

Someone that takes a position in a thread to encourage angst without really caring about the subject one way or another. In Monty Python's Holy Grail the French Knights tell Arthur they already have one and then when the knight is asked he says he doesn't know what it is, "but I told him we already got one." This is an example of a troll trolling. Truth is Truth |

I think the day might be approaching when the answer to the question "What's a troll?" should be "someone who posts regularly on the EVE forums" with roughly a 95% accuracy ;)

The term, rather than being from big hairy brutish monsters came from fishing.
Trolling is using a slow moving boat (oddly enough using a trolling motor) with numerous lures and bait dragging behind waiting for fish to bite.
Hence it's common internet usage: adding inane statements to a conversation to incite (bait) hostile response (bites)

Trawling refers to dragging nets, often between a pair of boats. Trawling
Trolling is still using individual lines and bait Trolling
both do refer to catching fish, but I stand by my statements.

It's a bit more complex than that...trolls are a subset of goons, but being a goon doesn't instantly make you a troll.
