A*****pit would only be useful for forward firing weapons.
As all eve weapons are omni directional.. any*****pit views will result in lots of black space as you orbit from 30km out and your nose is never pointed at the enemy anyways.

Edited by: Ontaku Oroa on 02/12/2007 23:28:00 Check out new Minmatar ship models, especially frigates and cruisers. They have very easily recognizable "****pits". I would sooner call them a bridge though.
For example, since the approximate size of a Rifter frigate is that of a Boeing 747, you can imagine the size of it's bridge. I surmise it is a bit larger than the command pod on the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars.
The Tempest also has easily recognizable bridge, right where one would expect it actually. So yes, ships have bridges. You can see them. End of speculation. :)

Of course they have bridges, where do you think they put the pod? -

The ships have bridges because they are used by conventional crews and captains as well as pod pilots, most ships are retrofitted to incorporate the pod technology.

ALL ships are designed for walking human crews..
We just buy the specuially modified versions to accomidate our pods.
NPC ships are all crewed by people and troops. Not pod pilots.. hence why "pod pilots" are so feared among the pirate orginazations.. cause a single pod pilot ship can wipe out 4-5 npc crewed ships of the exact same class but lacking the pod pilot.
1 Capsuleer Raven > 5 NPC ravens because of the added effeciency of the pod pilot.
And another thing.. when the slightest ***** in the*****pit glass can suck your entire bridge crew and command staff out into space.. you tend to protect them a bit more by not giving them easy to shoot windows.
When the body dies cause you cut off the head of the snake.. ppl tend to learn to hide the head internally rather then right out front and on top for all the world to shoot at.. ala star wreck. It always amazed me how long it took in that series before I finally heard someone say "Aim for the bridge".. ya know.. that big glass dome looking thing front and center of the saucer section of all starfleet ships.. or the forward head on the boom of Klingon ships.. or the big forward head on romulan ships... such an easy target.. took so long for anyone to notice it...
See the borg had it right.. no visible*****pit.. no easily targetable section that would allow you to kill the entire command crew in 1 shot. ------------ This is not War... This is pest control - Dalek Sek

Anything above a frigate (and bear in mind not even frigates are single man ships) would be using a 'bridge' view instead.

So the crew can see what's going on outside?

because some part of space is pretty
the ships still have crews, to load ammo, check the different parts of the ship to make sure they aren't broke. And every time you log off or loose connection the ship crew will take care of the ship, warp it away from the spot and switch off all systems to make it undetectable.
ship models existed before there were pod pilots, they kept the basic models and adapted them to work with pod pilots.
