Look at OP.
This is the fix: You can enter hexadecimal value into the AA compatibility box. Try 0xf0000045 , with this value AA + HDR is working and no white flashing bug. |

How can i confirm its actually working? (i cant spot it on the graphics that easy i assume)
Do i have to restart eve after every setting change?
Currently i have put all settings in, and no error (had one with the multi core setting, turn that off)

Edited by: Tajen Kata on 20/03/2008 01:39:10 Hey anyone here playing eve with 16x anti alias (CSAA) and 8800 GT in WINDOWED mode (1280x800)? I would love to know if you get any "display driver stopped responding" or other problems with this AA setting. I usually get one in 6 hours of playing and wondering if it's a hardware or software issue.
Note I don't care if you play in fullscreen as this crash occurs in windowed play.

This appears to no longer work on the 17x.xx series nVidia drivers. So it is either an nVidia problem or a CCP problem or a mix of both. I am running 2x 8800GTS in SLI. Makes me seriously want to consider going to ATI. |

Same here. Sometimes it helps to uninstall current driver to get rid of any previous drover stuff, and then reinstall. Hope it helps |

I did when playing it in windowed mode, be sure to try full screen mode, if you haven't already.

Anyone reckon there will ever be anything close to a catalyst fix, or should we just all go throw our ATI cards in the dustbin and get an Nvidia?

Vista x64 8800 GTX: Works quite well - the game looks a thousand times better now, thanks for the tip.
I still get the white squares when cloaked, but its worth it for the HDR. If you have FR issues drop your shadows to high from extreme- that provides a serious boost, and if you want to check to see if the HDR is working, activate a stargate- it'll be obvious.
You sometimes have to alt+tab or esc out and in again (without changing settings) for it to work. I have to have HDR enanabled in the options menu to get both that and AA on together which contradicts what others are reporting. |

I'm trying to get the best graphics out of my machine and have looked into running nhancer.
After playing with some stuff I just can't see any real change compared to the settings in game.
I have a:
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512 Vista 64 Quad Core 6600 4 gig of ram.
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction for settings for nhancer to max out Eve.
Also couldn't see Cover Sampling? I thought it was for the 8800's?

As far as i know this "fix" only works in fullscreen.
And regarding the fix posted with changing the filename to oblivion.exe: This is not necessary! I have found though, that sometimes i have to activate the profile manually from nhancers tray icon or in the tools menu. Then you can just alt+tab back into eve and then you have the AA+HDR.
To get rid of the flashing squares when cloaked write "0xf0000045" into the AA compatibility box. |

I finally got it working for myself. HDR and AA as far as I can tell. Only in full screen though, as seems to be the general case.
I do believe Coverage Sample had absolutely no effect, all the others seemed to work. Settled for 4xS Supersampling. The only things I changed were AA settings and compatibility (oblivion did the trick). I also made sure the profile is manually activated through the taskbar.
*In the Nvidia panel, I set Eve AA to override (using 174,9 beta drivers) and supersampling, left the amount of AA at "default global setting". I'm not sure whether this had any effect, just mentioning it.*
I'm running Vista x32 and a GeForce 8800GTX. I tried a gazilion things from here and other threads and nothing seemed to work. So I can't really say why it did, but these are the settings and drivers I'm using in nHancer and Control Panel now, and they work.

Edited by: HydroSan on 10/05/2008 04:25:07 Alright, I'm having some weird quality issues with my system.
Specs: BFG 7800 GTX (256MB) Windows XP x64 Standard 169.21 drivers
Settings in nHancer: Tried the ...45 Oblivion code, no dice. Currently on the ...200 Splinter Cell code. Both have the same quality issues.
Enhancements: AA: Supersampling 4x4 Gamma Correction: On Super-Transparency AA: On Antistropic: 16x
Optimizations: Texture Filtering: High Quality HDR: Off (both in-game and in nHancer)
http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/9646/jaggiezlq3.jpg
Here is an example of it. Every time the ship moves, there's shimmering going on with the textures. The guns look like they're sparkling and little bands wash up and down my ship. It looks like crap and no other settings I've tried fixes it. You can see what I'm saying with the texture distortion on the panel right above the thrusters.
Anyone else have a 7800 and have been able to get it to look good?

Edited by: Jenny Loo on 14/05/2008 07:18:47 Those of you who were asking about 8800 GTS and GTX temperatures.
I did some research on this case after my gpu went 80C. Do you honestly believe that anything above 70C is healthy for your vga? What my research revealed was that 8800 gpu's bios are configured in a strange way. By default settings your gpu fan works at 36% all the time, until the temp reaches 90C or so. Then it speeds up killing the temp.
There are 2 ways to make your gpu cooler. First and the easiest one is using ntune/rivatuner set the manual fan speed to 60% (more than 60% will speed up your fan and cause more noise. Try 100% you'll see what I mean). 60% speed is enough to maintain <60C gpu. The second way is to manually edit gpu's bios (what I wouldn't recommend if you have no clue how to do it). Bios editing is more efficient tho as you can edit conditions like if the temp get's higher than 60 or 70C, then fan will speed up till the temp drops to a certain level and then it will slow down.
All in all the fastest way to increase your vga's lifetime is to get riva or ntune and maintain a higher fan speed than 36%. The ridiculous original bios settings are far from trusting them.

Hey gents, I run a pair of 8800GT's in SLI with 4GB RAM on a quad core Intel. I am running nHancer with the default setup for EVE online which is SLI:AFR[0x02400001] with HDR on High and maxed graphics in game.
The game runs great however I get an odd slow down only when I am rolling the view around in space and I move in a cicrle, every time I roll to where the sun is just out of view it slows to 20 fps from 230 fps. If I look at my ship and the sun and move it just right it will cause the slow down as well. Very annoying. Other then that I get 200+ fps. Thoughts?

UPDATE: I turned off SLI and still get 160+ frames and zero problems runs like a dream :) I think it may have to do with the method that SLI does it's processing. I'll be messing with that tonight, had 'business' to handle within EVE :)

The Geforce 6xxx and 7xxx series were infamous for their horrible texture flickering caused by using the anisotropic filter. If I were you, I would disable it completely as a first measure. If that doesn't work, turn transparency AA off. If that doesn't work, turn off both the anisotropic filter and transparency AA.
Additionally, check your Z-Buffer settings ingame. EVE recommends the 32bit buffer.
Also note: when you are only trying to force antialiasing, and leave HDR off, it is probably irrelevant which compatibility mode you use - since those are only really needed for using both HDR and AA at the same time.

For starters, uncheck the "enhance ingame AA" setting.
It didn't work for me until I did that (I have a 9600 GT).

EDIT: No change after disabling the Enhance option :( Just to check, it does automatically update right? there isn't some magical "turn on custom settings" button is there?
Then I would go and disable everything not immediately needed.
I.e.: - On the "Compatibility" tab, uncheck "force mimaps". - On the "Optimizations" tab, uncheck everything - On the "Enhancements" tab, uncheck everything except for "anti-aliasing", and pick a non-combined mode for starters, like 2x2 SS or 4x MS.
Then, if you get it to work, you can slowly start adding stuff back, and see where it breaks.
8xS combined is lousy anyway because it gobbles up performance but only supersamples the horizontal edges, and not the vertical ones. That's why it says "1x2 SS" - it means that the image is rendered at normal horizontal and double vertical resolution and then shrunk down to fit the monitor, thus reaching much less pixellated horizontal edges.
If you want the whole image supersampled, you need to choose 2x2 or 4x4 so that the entire image is rendered in double or quad resolution (poor graphics card ).
Or you simply use multisampling alone, which works by blurring the colors along polygon edges, making the 'staircases' much less obvious. it takes a lot less performance (4xMS goes faster than 2x2 SS), but if you're picky, it doesn't look as good (because well, you don't get perfectly sharp edges anymore). |
