I haven''t been playing long myself, but I can tell you if my experiences in other games holds true, you aren''t likely to find the adreneline jockeys cruising the belts looking for miners, or gate camping defenseless ships, you will find them in 0.0 space, armed to the teeth and looking for a real fight. I would also guess that if you want to find them, you would probably have the best bet of reaching them in the larger 0.0 corps. mOo, CA, FE, etc.
That's pretty much how i see myself ... however i've always considered myself a carebear because i was a good guy. i guess i was confused about the term carebear.
the way i always saw carebear was basically the good guys. those that play the game in a law abiding fashion. the guys that blew up other people are pirates because they get their living from killing others. grievers are the gutter trash that prey on defensless ships and only attack when they outnumber at least 3 to 1 and spend most of their time sitting at safe points.
/me cant wait for the scout ships so i can warp to those punks and blow them away Director, Divine Retribution

another term for carebear, is a person/corp that does talk a lot of smack an doesn't back it up, or a person/corp that outnumbers/out guns the op4 an runs away, Celest Apoc is good for that one, buncha carebear wanna bes', they had a group a few days ago, out gunned and out maned the attacking force an they still ran with their tails between their legs, scattering to the 4 soler winds and flinning taunts... that's a true carebear/ carebear wanna be
--------------------------------------------- well nice to see you. oops did i just say that to a corps? ahh men they die so easy. --------------------------------------------- TOOOO BAAAAD SOOOOO SAAAAD, sucks to be you, cry me a river, bottle it, you may get somthing for it... |

some one who never goes lower than .5 sec and never fights. often a care bear will make many threats. however that does not make you a care bear. if you dont leave empire and you dont fight anything but npc and agent mission peeps your a care bear. ----------------------------------------------

Now then, to my real answer to the topic.
The term carebear is usually used to define a person who
a: disagrees with the speaker
b: wishes some aspect of the game changed to his/her benefit
and c: Is very loud about it
The criteria for carebear is ranked in that way thus having an oposit opinion to the person calling someone carebear is the most important thing, nomatter how much whining, complaining and carrying on with b and c, a person that has the same views of the name caller will never be classified as a carebear.
Likewise the wanting to change the game in a way that can be percived to benefit yourself is more important than being loud, all that is needed is for you to voise your opinion and you have potentionally been loud enough.
The most amusing thing about the whole carebear thing is that usually the person calling another person carebear fills the criteria for being one alot better than the person that is called it.

LOL, cant we all just get along, People just dont realize that some people have a different idea of how they want to play eve. In my corp we have several PvP'ers and several "carebears", some of our guys Love to kill BS rats , some like to hunt PC pirates when they come into our system and then chase em down , and some just like to mine the day away with 8 lasers and an alt hauler in peace ....to each his own, I just wish being a carebear wasnt demeaning, because without them, just like pirates, the game would be less appealing. I would consider the term Carebear to be non PvP, single player mentality. Its the variety or all diff players, whether they are multiplayer/single player mentality or not, whether thay like or dislike PvP, whether they like to mine and trade, or hunt and collect lootº. Face it...people have diff ideas about what eve should be like.

Carebears whine when they take a risk knowingly and lose something that they knew they could lose.
Staying in high-sec space simply means you're not a PvPer--this has nothing to do with being a carebear. There are pirate carebears too you know.
