I cannot even log into the game, the new client constantly crashes on me. First off i tried the autopatcher in game. It said re-install.. I then tried the manual patch. It said re-install... Then I just downloaded the whole new client, and it wont even let me log in, it brings up the eula, and at seemingly random intervals it crashes completely. Sometimes I make it to the bottom and click accept, sometimes I dont make it. Anybody else had this issue?

dis-reguard. Rebooted and works like a champ now. I guess i should reboot every now and again, two weeks without a reboot kinda would put a dampener on just about any os.

My client is crashing constantly as well, I think around 10 times in the past hour. Seems to be happening mostly when I open a new window, especially to look at a character's info. Kind of frustrating especially since I'm running a brand new iMac.

i have the same problem since the trinity expansion. it's really really awful. i had no problems prior to this patch, but now it quits on me in the middle of battles and even just sitting docked in a station. it makes the game unplayable and if it doesn't get fixed soon i'm going to demand a refund of my subscription since i literally cannot play the game right now.

yes my rate of crashes have risen to a whole new level with this "update". Before my screen would just freeze and necessitate a opt/command/esc force quit to get out and then a reboot to start up the app again. Now I get a black screen - ominous, also requires a force quit and reboot. I have never , in over 10 years of using macs, had anything run that gave my computer the blues this much. heh, yet I am still here trying to make it work....

Same here. The client seems to crash at random intervals (about once every hour or so of gameplay), and doesn't even leave a crash log behind most of the time. I'll try filing a bug report, although I have a feeling it'll bounce back as "unreproducible"... I think I might try running the Windows client under CrossOver and see if that helps. Guess I might have to go and buy CrossOver too, then...
Or just bend over backwards and install XP with Boot Camp. Ick.
All in all, I keep being less and less impressed by the performance of the OS X client. It seems to get worse with every "update." I wish CCP would have the sense to use OpenGL et al instead of DirectX. Would make porting much less of a hassle. Not that it's ever going to happen, but a man can dream... Next step: DX10 which means it'll probably be unplayable on OS X or Linux.

Adding my voice to the chorus.
MacBook Pro; 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, Radeon X1600 Running OSX: Leopard (Version #10.5.1) and EvE Online (Client #4.10.45017)
The client consistently, but unpredictably CTD's within the first hour of usage. I have noticed this happening mostly on the opening of new windows (once when I went to open the 'set standings' window on another player, and once shortly after selecting the docking option outside a station - when the popup telling you that you're being brought in would normally pop up). It crashed a few other times, but I can't recall my exact actions at the time of the CTD.
The client has also become unresponsive to my "esc" key once since the patch. Because I couldn't open the menu to 'quit eve', I closed the window by clicking on the red 'X' in the upper left hand corner. The window and process become unresponsive at that point, and eventually needed a "kill -9" after waiting for 4-5 minutes. I have not seen this particular bug since then.

I've been having similar problems, game just crashes, i.e., the window disappears with no crash report, like the game was never running... once this starts once, it will continue to happen at very frequent intervals, it normally starts happening after an hour or so of play. The only solution I've found is rebooting. This problem has only cropped up since the trinity patch, prior to that I did get occasional freezes that required a force quit, but these at least had error logs. I've noticed this when jumping from systems with a lot of tabs open, particularly Wallet and Market tabs... though that might just be because after about an hour I have a lot of windows open. Hopefully all will be fixed soon.
Running OS 10.4.11, 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac, 2 GB ram, 256 MB RadeonX1600 graphics card.

*Holds up Tux plushie* I come in peace don't shoot!
Don't know much about OS X but Cegeda is pretty much Wine. Wine has two processes one called, oddly enough, wine and the other wineserver, on Linux, once it starts getting crash happy I'll often find zombied wineserver processes littering the place (and others called exe-file).
If you open a Terminal and ps -ef you should be able to spot them and issue the requisite kill -9 <process> command. Cegeda doesn't run as root on Linux so you shouldn't need to sudo su or anything.
YMMV but it gets the thing stableish again on Linux so should work on OS X.

What seems to help greatly is logout of my account when it first happens (this isn't windows, no need to reboot!), and log back in. EVE also doesn't seem to like ANY background apps running what so ever (pity, life without iTunes sucks)...
If I do the above I can get a good hour or two out of it before having to log out/in again.

I got so bored with all bugs and s**t in the Mac client so I went downtown and bought Windows Vista instead. No I am running EVE via Bootcamp and the difference is so huge I can not even longer see the Mac client as a alternative. I can now play the new graphic, adjust 3D settings in CatalystCP and play with fps around 50-100 (depends on 3D settings in CCP)..
So...I am a bit sad bugs and s**t made me quit the Mac client, but like I said, the difference is so huge. I would rather have stayed in OS X but when it comes to EVE, Windows is the only way to go.
But..let me know IF the day comes when you can play EVE in OS X with same fast and stable experience like EVE via Bootcamp.

What about other systems with a lot of other players? I've found that any system with more than ~160 people in it causes the same type of crash.
Also, mine often crashes when it tries to download an image of another character.

I have also been getting constant crashes where the client just quits to desktop. Has happened when warping, dock/undocking, entering/exiting a system, with no signs as to when or if a crash will occur. Very very annoying.
They really need to put some kind of crash log or reporter into the client because I have filed multiple bug reports on this crashing issue, making them as detailed as I could, only to get the generic response, "The problem you have described was non-reproducible." Bug report filtered or closed.
Its nice to see they are working on the issue... |

I now get lots of crashes too, way more than before the patch.
I did not mind too much, but yesterday I flew through a 0.4 low sec and lost my Cruiser, so I'm a bit miffed. I crashed not only once, not twice, but 3 consecutive times at crucial moments while evading a pirate, so i got pwned with little pleasure - it removed all validity to playing and I felt cheated by the game. I usually don't crash vs rats, so it upset me to crash in PvP.
Last time they patched it it was a mini-mess for a week. Hopefully we'll get a new patch soon.

I feel I have to complain about this new trinity update...THIS HAS GOT TO BE FIXED.... or an explanation about the bug. One would think that this kind of expansion would be tested on the MAC OS before launching it. I could open two clients of EVE and play with absolutely no problems until this expansion. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the client several times to no avail. The client should not have been released until the bugs were out. I thank the folk who put this all together for us MAC users but am sad that I could only play EVE for a few weeks on my MAC. So here I sit.. using my old PC to play. I feel bad for those stuck with their macs today.

If the things that worked for me in my first post don't work for you, and you're running 10.5.2 try running Disk Utility and repairing your permissions. See if you get about 9 errors that look like: Warning: SUID file "usr/libexec/load_hdi" has been modified and will not be repaired. I was getting these myself, and my system was behaving very badly in general (random apps quitting, slow performance on some things, etc, hence, trying the permission repair).
A little searching in the apple forums, and it turns out these messages are SUPPOSED to be harmless (then why are they there!?!), but there is a fix. And that is go to apple/support/downloads and DL the Combined 10.5.2 Updater (110MB) vs. the Intel one Software Update installed, and run that instead.
Did it, *bang*, no more funky permission messages and my system as a whole seems much happier and faster, even though I still need to log out of my account and back if EVE is to behave.

If the had any compassion at all, they would at least post a message saying they are aware of the problem and lie about working on the solution! But they ignore us just proving how poor there management team is!
Do they not realize there are hundreds of thousands of mac gamers that are looking for a MMO* to play? If they would put any real effort into this game for mac it could end up with more mac users then windows users.
*WoW is for children with I.Q.'s of less then 90, so it does not count as a real MMO.

Not quite so. They (CCP) are aware and even pop in form time to time in our OSX channel for questions and answers. I'm sure they are as uncomfortable with it as we do, and working overtime atm to fix the mirade of bugs.
Just keep them sending those crash reports (if you have one).

Hi,
For crashes without error logs, it works for me to terminate the task "WindowServer" in the Activity Manager (? - don't know how it's called for I'm using a german Mac OS X). This will reload the complete desktop being slightly faster than a complete reboot, with Eve running normal after that.
In addition I've noticed that the crashes only seem to occur when playing in fulllscreen mode.
Let's hope the new Version comes out pretty fast.

This sounds like business speak for "we have no clue whats going on... please don't be mad at us 'cause we really are trying".
Whether thats the case or not, thanks :D Looking forward to the update.

I had it pop to desktop quite often after the patch.
So far I've been able to run 2x clients stable by disabling everything in the sound-tab. It might work for others, although it sounds like some can't even get into the game. For those, I wager you might be able to disable it manually in the config file (check forum/knowledgebase on where it's located)
Until a patch clears this up..
Enjoy, and fly safe..

Yes I crash a couple times a hour now, nothing seems to help. No other app's running, I have trimmed down the graphic settings, I fix permissions ( see nothing about EVE there). before recent "update" my crashes tended to be more in the station as I entered game, now they are everywhere, mid mission ... close to unplayable. I send systems logs but they dont seem to show anything, and CCP says they are not helpful, then the next GM says send the log... We pay this money for beta? Why?

I've found that using the default graphics settings seems to actually lessen the chance of a crash. Not much, but hey, I'll take what I can get

Hello,
The strangest is that since the patch, in addition to crash, communication with VNC is no longer possible, the display has changed is very slow, it is impossible to use. It is the only link with the game! If I want to see another application via VNC, it works correctly. Definitely there is something not net with the graphical interface.

Same here, totally random crashes back to desktop 10x per hour. All this despite my brand new Mac Pro 2xdual 2.66 Ghz, 5 Gb internal memory, 512 mb videocard etc...
Get it fixed ASAP please, having two accounts not able to play is very annoying.

I'm finding that anytime there is any significant load on the client, e.g PVP then eve will crash to desktop.
It's getting pretty frustrating as i can't go on any op's with my corp. I really hope this is addressed with Tuesdays patch. I don't mean to be harsh CCP (i think what you guys do is generally outstanding) but at the moment you really can't expect to charge people for the service your providing to your Mac client customers.

Dunno of this helps but my crashes mainly happen either going into or coming out of warp. I did notice today that when I used my AB it would crash more often. Might have been a coincidence but when I stopped using my AB it didn't crash.

I haven't had a crash in the time I've been mining today - as opposed to the several crashes I had while warping around on missions earlier. But I think I'll install Boot Camp anyway until it's fixed.

I've had the crashes described in this thread, and have experienced them with both OS 10.4 and 10.5. It's beginning to be extremely frustrating. The bug that most afflicts me now is the "NSInternalInconsistencyException" problem. I can't even get the client to run for more than 30 seconds.

I have the same issue that when the client crashes some times i can not get it started again unless I restart my iMac.
Today after my client crashed again and me refusing to restart my iMac i was reading the forum post and wanted to find the log files.
I clicked on /Applications/EVE Online.app/Contents/MacOS/cider and my client started again. I am going to try this next time the client refuses to start after a crash and see if it works again.
Can someone who is facing the same problem try it out. I do not know how this would help in fixing the problem but it is some kind of a solution instead of restarting. -------------------------------- One day the lag will get us all. |
