Full removal of EVE including all preference files I could find followed by new install yielded a much stabler situation although I did have the classic lock-up while OPT-Tabing back to the app after an hour or so.

Yup, but more from the dictates of my real life than anything else. My play time is limited and I enjoy what I get. There is likely a corp out there that can accommodate me but without a decent reputation system for finding a corp it's a crap sho...
