Originally by: Tratok Aran Edited by: Tratok Aran on 06/12/2007 06:41:00 Funny thing. At the beginning it WAS working. Then my ISP switched me off 'cause downloading of premium content killed my traffic quota and I forgot to pay this month :) I've tunelled 26000 port to eve's server but... Keyboard stopped to work and I have to log in via cut'n'paste of my account details :) Also splash screen is loading way too slow. Some investigation done shows that EVE tries to connect to api.eve-online.com during splash screen and my guess that since it can't connect over there - somehow keyboard stops to work. It might be not YOUR case guys, but that's when keyboard actually stopped to work for ME :)
EDIT: Alt, ctrl, shift keys are working. Also minimize, close, etc icons are gone in game windows if you login via cut'n'paste.
I'm under this same impression. I have a macbook with bootcamp installed and I'm using the classic version in both Windows XP and OS X.5. I am behind a proxy and have to tunnel my connection to EVE. In windows it just didn't work, the keyboard and mouse. When I rebooted and tried it in OS X, the keyboard and mouse worked BEFORE I started my tunnel. Once I started my tunnel, it stopped working. ALSO, it won't let me enter localhost as the server to connect to anymore, this is probably worthy of another thread as I had to create an alias IP address on my computer in order to connect.
Hope this is all helpful, looking forward to patches!

I was able to play EVE just fine a few hours ago, but just now experienced this problem. I ctrl-alt-del and stopped EVE that way, then tried again; it worked fine the second time.

I'm just guessing here, but anyhow: Are you guys using some "fancy" keyboard tools (autocompletion or something the like, whether 3rd party or included with your keyboard)? If so, try disabling them and see what happens.

We are looking into the issue but it appears initially to be related to use of a socks proxy on your computer. You can try disabling this to see if it resolves the problem until we make a permanent fix.

I don't use anyone proxy software on my computer. This problem is appear if i don't have connection to 87.237.39.199 on startup eve. My proxy nat-redirect my connecion to eve server. I start eve with key /server:my_proxy_ip, server connection is ok, but keyboard no work. If connection to 87.237.39.199 on startup eve is available - all work fine. Later this connect not need for game.

can some one tell me the port that this ip put outs on 87.237.39.199
if I know that I can use my web browser to open a connection to it then the game can get through to it and such I can actually maybe play the game. well in theory.
I am behind a proxy run by my school so there is nothing i can do about it.

Same problem here - Dell M1330 laptop with 32 bit Vista Ultimate, 2GB memory, GeForce 8400M GS graphics - mouse (almost) works OK but no keyboard in EVE. I have only upgraded to Classic, not tried Premium as I want to get Classic working first. I can log in with the 'paste password' trick but then a bit limited inside EVE - no chat :(
I also noticed that the mouse has some issues inside EVE, does not change mouse icon when at edge of a panel (or anywhere else forthat matter), though click&drag will still resize panel. The minimise/close icons do not appear in top right corner of panel when I mouse-over the area, so have to right click and choose close to exit a panel. Really need a fix for this before I can safely play EVE again.

Hallo all.
Got possible solution to all who play via HTTP-Tunnel , or proxy.
Just add to you Environment Variables (Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Advanced)
Variable Name : HTTP_PROXY Variable Value: http://login:[email protected]:port ( or just proxy address if it's anonymous)
Helps me to initiate keyboard via HTTP-Tunnel

Not everyone uses windows. I did, but it's now gone (and it feels good). I'm really hoping the fix includes support for proxies and not "allow keyboard to work by ignoring proxy." Which I'm sure they've thought of. Either way, I'm just going to wait it out for EVE to fix it all up. It's development and I know how problems can be easily missed, and Finals are coming near so I should probably be doing something else instead. Also, I noticed on the mac, while trying to fix this, that I cannot make the networkAdvanced=1 show up on the login screen, it doesn't even let me type in localhost. This is an important feature for me as I cannot play the game at all without support for a proxy.

Thanks JIone, this worked for me too - I have eve Classic working OK :)
I just copied the proxy string that is set up my browser (company stuff - uses a proxy.pac ??) into the HTTP_PROXY value and bingo. Looks like eve is not finding the proxy setting from within whereever the browser stores it (registery?) but is getting it from that system variable OK.

Ah ok , this is "probably" working fix for windows based PC's.
About your problem i can tell that : i can change NetworkAdvanced from 0 to 1 , but it'd doesn't make any changes in eve start up screen , so , i don't know how eve starts on MAC and even if has shortcut on desktop , but on windows i put these to eve shortcut on desctop in Target section after path to startupfile: /server:127.0.0.1 |(to play via HTTP-Port)

I've had this problem and just resolved it thanks to a few poitners in this thread.
it's caused by cheap / dodgy Personal firewall software. Eiter create a rule to emplicitly allow traffic to / from the eve servers (proxies / api / the lot) or (NOT RECCOMENDED) realise you have a p.o.s firewall and disable it to play eve.
Gotta have my fix.... my wang exceeds the maximum allowed dimensions of 400x120 pixels and filesize of 24000 bytes -Valorem ([email protected]) |

I have this problem as well, however I am running the Linux client. Copy-Pasting doesn't even work for me.
What is happening is that any key presses are being registered by the program in the background, and not by EVE. I left open a text editor and everything ended up there.
For some reason though, key entry works on the Settings menu (i.e. tabbing between fields).

Keyboard doesn't work for eve, works in all other applications tough. Mouse works fine untill you alt-tab out and come back in. Funny thing is that it worked perfectly an hour ago.

I had the same problem with the keyboard and i couldn't get a connection to the server as well. I'm not behind a proxy, i'm just using a NAT router. Never had any connection issues before the patch. So i guess the patch changed something with the network settings, no idea what, though.
Next guess was to disable my firewall, but nothing changed. Then i removed the rules for Eve in my personal firewall. And see what, firewall didn't ask me again if i want to allow eve to access the web. I uninstalled my firewall and now all works as it should (connection and keyboard). So i think the patch somehow messed up the firewall settings. Maybe this will help you, too. ____________________

Same problem here, running the game under XP, no socks proxy but a NAT router + norton internet security. Nothing changes if i disable the firewall (i didn't try to uninstall it)
I can use copy/paste to login, but after using ALT+TAB to go to the text editor, the mouse pointer become invisible in EVE. Waiting for a patch...

Problem is that the keyboard didn't work until the ingame browser connect to some adress port 80. If he couldn't keyboard want work. Check firewall settings or snif all network connections from your PC -> world.
