This is mainly for people with the GTX8800 and a decent rig (which it should be if you got that gfx card) I dont know if this will work for other cards.
After a bit of fidling around I got 16X AA and HDR to work together perfectly.
First thing is download that nHancer tool.
Select EVE in the list so your changing settings for this game profile only not globally.
Under enhancments tick AA and select coverage sample 16X. (tried 16XQ it didnt work and game crashed)
Tick gamma correction and super tranparancy AA.
16 X anisotropic filtering can also be selected.
Under optimizations tab leave all unticked.
In the compatibility tab tick AA compatability and choose Oblivion AA & HDR
Tick HDR and select enable.
Close this tool now.
In EVE settings:
Shadows - set this to high (extreme would crash the game when it started with the oblivion compatability, and anyway it eats a lot of fps)
You can max HDR + bloom (high)
Cache (Extreme)
A good way to tell if your getting AA is the planet on the log-in screen (it should be nice and smooth with no jaggies if its working.
Anyway I went to Jitas main trade hub to test fps, I was getting lows of 20 highs of 70. Inside stations it is 90-100 fps.
On extreme shadows and HDR + high bloom with no AA was getting fps lows of 7 outside the station at jita.
Hope this helps someone at least.
HDR and no jaggies with decent FPS ..im a happy bunny tonight :)

Ok with a bit more testing it seems Extreme Shadows was not causing the crash so that setting is fine if you want to enable it.
What is definatly causing the crash is coverage sample AA 16XQ so make sure you use the 16X or lower.

Loving the visuals too
Have you noticed a strange graphical glitch when you exit a stargate?
I get these strange white boxes flashing all over my cloaked raven, they disapear when I start to move and the gate cloak wears off (love the new de-cloaking effect btw).
I found out high bloom setting was causing this, normal was ok it fixed the glitch.

Even my old (Pentium D) CPU can run everything on high without problems (thanks to the 8600 GT :D ). Can't run shadows of extreme though, FPS drops from over 60 to Jita like levels...

Edited by: Devlynsands on 06/12/2007 11:31:49 Hi, Ive not even been through a stargate yet lol not had the time. no doubt its a HDR issue as per normal on alot of games.. Maybe its new fancy effect and were expecting to much ? :p
"60fps to Jita" << lol Poor Jita heheh gets the blame for all frame issues not only in eve now lol
<Cod4 player: Im on a 6800 card full settings and this game runs like im in Jita!!> saw that once lol

a bit of clarification here, the nHancer tool...? ------- I usually spend some minutes writing a post, usually read it over, decide it doesn't really add anything useful to a conversation and I hit the cancel button. .....This time I didn't hit c |

The nHancer Tool
Thanks for these tips although it's a shame that this isn't a built in functionality as even with this it's not 100% perfect even at 1920x1200. Oh well, maybe sometime in the future. Generally liking the chnages tho!

Nope it appears not to work in windowed. I tried almost every AA setting and could not get it working (8800GT). You can tell easily by using alt-enter to swap between full and window mode and watch the jaggies disappear / reappear. :(

Got it working, but only in Full screen, no luck with window mode :( However, with normal shadows, high bloom, and 8x AA, 8x AF I¦m getting 60fps in Station and around 30 outside Jita 4-4, but 60 when I there are no other ships in the background.
I have a 8800gtx superclocked, core 2 duo E6600, and 2 gigs of Ram, so I was hoping for a little more fps, but well....

Followed the instructions here before I went through the whole thread. So, it apparently does not work in windowed. Proceeded to change settings back to not use AA. However, now I can't get to the login screen unless I switch to full screen, and then I have to switch to windowed once in game again. Anyone know how to resolve this (get the exact same behaviour as before that is)?

Great! Now the game looks 100 times better! The new visuals were terrible with no AA...doing this puts the game on par with the trailer we've been seeing...looks incredable! 16x AA might be overkill though...I'm gonna back it off a bit and go with 8x.

You don't have to use nHancer, just use the nVidia control panel. You can set the options globally, or for the game itself under "Program Settings" for Eve Online (exefile.exe). Here's what I've changed from global default:
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x Antialiasing - Gamma Correction: On Antialiasing Mode: Override Antialiasing Setting: 16x Antialiasing Transparency: Supersampling Texture Filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization: ON
I don't know why AA doesn't work in a window. I've had other games with that problem in the past. I've also been told that on nVidia cards HDR and FSAA don't work at the same time, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Good luck and safe flying :)

I'm using a 7900GT and I can't get it to work, even if I set AA to 8X or lower. I do everything I have to do in nHancer and it's just not working.
On a side-note, if I disable HDR in the ingame menu and switch to windowed mode, the jagged edges are no longer there.

The HDR eats the most fps (I went from 200 -> 170ish with the 8x MS AA, down to 100 with HDR on). To just get AA you have to turn HDR off in game and just use the general compatibility. ______________________

Also, just editing the EVE profile doesnt work for me, I have to change the settings in the global settings (and yes it only works in fullscreen mode).
I have tried editing both the global en profile settings and I still don't get AA + HDR in fullscreen mode. When running in windowed mode and then turn of HDR ingame I get smooth edges and it still looks as if HDR is enabled. I'm running on 1280x1024 and a 7900GT atm.

Looks like it only works on 88xx series cards which really sucks.
I have a 7950GT 512 and cant get AA+HDR.
Tried nhancer and really screwed my graphics up on my system, had to roll back and reinstall Eve.
Hopefully they will do something to get these to work with earlier cards if possible. They are still high spec cards so should really work - or are CCP just trying to help M$ crowbar us all too88xx and vista - lol

The 8X00 cards are the first NVIDIA cards that support HDR and AA at the same time AFAIK.

I'm not sure, but I recall getting AA + HDR working with Oblivion using the 7xxx series. So in theory it should be possible to do the same in EVE.

Besides AA not working in windowed mode I have very poor performance in windowed mode as well while running two instances of Eve. When I switch both back to fullscreen my fps is back to normal to about 60fps (in windowed mode about 20).
Anyone have the same problems in windowed mode? Suspecting windowed mode isnt accelerated by the graphics card at all....

Hmm, I magically got AA to work in windowed mode by simply going fullscreen mode and then back to windowed mode. Even after restarting it kept AA on in windowed mode after that ______________________

With nHancer's EVE profile running per this thread my computer crashes and restarts after running EVE for about 10 mins, even just sitting in a station the whole time. Windows consistently blames it on nVidia. I even got my first BSoD in Vista (32 bit ultimate) because of this. I installed the latest update from the nVidia website dated 6 Dec, but it still happens. I'm running 2 8800 GTXs in SLi. Any ideas? _______________

For anyone having as much trouble as I was getting this working make sure that in nhancer the executable for eve is changed to Exefile.exe which can be found in the bin directory of your install path.
Hope that helps

Anyone else noticing occasional very small glitches when using this fix ? For example, when in station and zooming into the walls (rmb, lmb+move up) some textures will flash into a white square for less than a second
This is with premium gfx content, hdr + high bloom, normal shadows, 8800 GTS 163.75
Turn off AA and the bugs disappear

The directions of the OP worked perfectly for me, including Extreme shadows as mentioned in a follow-up post. No problems here in full screen mod (doesn't work in windowed mode as mentioned). I'm running two 8800GTX cards, but SLI disabled to use second monitor. Even in full screen mode, I can use my second screen, but the EVE client minimizes each time.
