Ok well I would like to see more in depth in this game, it can be so much more. Why not have "crews" that have skills that can be trained instead of just one person in a ship. Am I the only one that feels this way? I need more indepth experience then just this. It would add a lot more to the game if you had a crew that worked your ship instead of just your character. Tell me what you guys think

Nope, not saying like a 10 member crew... but for a battleship in the thousands. Would give the game a more in depth feel...

ohhhhh, i see what ur saying, have more than one character in a ship. that would be sweet and all but it shouldn't be in this forum, take that to the idea board and maybe we'll see it happen one day. love the idea tho, not sure how it would be implemented but would be cool as ****, specially if they put in a first person camera view

we do have crews on ships. you are the only important one so you let them die when the ship goes down.

I always liked the idea of having to 'buy' crew. Like skills and equipment stats a better, more expensive crew would improve your ships abilities.
Crews would work like modules as far as game mechanics are concerned...there would be engineering, battle, maintenence 'modules' etc for your ship each requiring a minimum number of crew to install....meaning there would be a great variety of crew types with varying experience we could hire on the job market (hence adding an extra dimension to the Market) Formerly Voidhawk

Quote: "But how can a single man control a whole ship?" Ouriye pressed. "Thank you, captain, I was coming to that. As I said, the captain acts as the central unit in a highly advanced computer. This role allows him to access and evaluate data at extreme pace. He can easily handle the jobs it takes 5 or 10 people to do normally. It also makes him a better commander, he has better understanding and awareness of his environment and he's not boggled down by tedious crew management issues and frequent communication breakdowns are now history." Anu finished, looking over the faces of the thoughtful Caldari standing before him.
That is why you don't have a crew and how it is easier without them. If you had a crew, then they would be doing things slower, would have to recieve their commands from a person directly which can take time and you have to keep track of everyone, supply them with food, water and other stuff essential to their survival. Not to mention they need wages (unless you are Amarrian). -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

There were some crew-type functions in beta, and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw crew related stuff come back in at some point. If I remember the ship stats from beta correctly, frigates didn't have crew, but everything large than a frig did. With possibly the exception of industrials--I can't remember, but it would sort of make sense if indies didn't need crew (they're mostly empty space, right?).
I've got a love/hate relationship with the idea of crew. I wouldn't want to feel responsible for getting them killed ... though wouldn't it be wild to see hundreds of frozen corpses when a ship blew up? ò ò ò

Preferbly females in nurse outfits.
Seriously though, I also like the idea of hiring crew for a certain amount of ISK and upping your ships stats with them.

Live ship crews in this game = baaaad idea. In some other settings it works ok, but usually when the players are actively doing something. For example, if the pilot flew the ship in first person with joystick-like controls, and other crew roles were similar first-person views it could *possibly* work, but when all control actions consist of point, click, wait... point, right-click, repeat... I can't see it ever being implemented. |

Im guessing we only have crews in the ships when fighting in fleetbattles then. All those amarrian slaves are so slow in activating my modules.

Q,
I would hate the idea of a crew's factor on my ship. I run my ship. Dont need a mutany or people boarding my ship and taking it away.
I am the only captain.

There is no bridge crew in any ship in EVE, the pod serves all bridge functions and the pod's pilot can serve all command duties. According to the beta info, a cruiser has a crew of around 600 and a battleship of around 6000. Since all command functions are covered by the captain, this crew would be for functions such as damage control, engineering, maintanence, drone launching and recovery, cargo transfers, loading charges, firing guns, dealing with the more technical aspects of EW, medical, food, and everything else needed in a self contained city. Very few of these functions are relevant or are not already covered by stuff you can train.
I would like to see more skills related to the drone operations though, and drones would require deck crews...

Edited by: Alpha Centauri on 15/03/2004 23:29:53 Edited by: Alpha Centauri on 15/03/2004 23:28:41 My idea of a crew in a ship would be like battlefield 1942, where you can have multiplayer vehicles, particularly the battleships, no imagine that game play in space, sod your skill on a timer, give me pure player earned skill on my saitek cyborg evo and I will show you who is the true pilot :]
This game is not a simulator, damn shame, seriously :]
Someone best get coding the first MMOFPS with vehicles in space :]
You could have a game such as this, that was more rigid in the heirarchy of power, not based on who is the most deviously money making scamming pirating skum bag begging lazy arsed player, though the one who is the most SKILLFUL with keys and joystick, it works in bf1942, why not in space?
Multiplayer vehicles do work, though with simulator style game play.
I can see a game, that is not eve, that will be MMOG space game centred around PVP, simulator style FPS with multiplayer vehicles though its not made yet :(
