Never been hi-sec ganked.
Never seen someone being hi-sec ganked.
Conclusion - hi sec ganking not particularly widespread and is not the huge problem people think it is. If people avoid the areas where hi-sec ganking commonly occurs, they are less likely to be attacked. If you must fly in those areas, don't put expensive stuff in the cargohold of a cheap ship. Don't make yourself a target.

I'm not interested in a flame war but I thank those of you who responded constructively.
I expected hi sec to be 100% safe and it wasn't because I have not been suicide ganked in 4 years and I never knew I could be. I have been killed just about every other way too yay but I didn't post about them because I knew I was at risk. I have far more kills from my early days and they were a damned lot of fun but I've never griefed or pirated as that doesn't interest me (but I know it makes Eve such a rich tapestry). As your links have shown CCP admits and embraces hi sec "insecurity", thankyou for the clarification.
I want that to change. Not without balance if that is required but is having hi sec completely safe (again other than war decs) really much different to what we have now? Griefers move to low sec but what else would change? Is this really so painful a concept?
I think I have my answer though, yes I love you all too. I'll be back to full strength in a couple of months and I will be flying smarter. The tribe has spoken.

I think I would prefer slightly different mechanics: The ability to actually outrun CONCORD (at least in < 1.0) but far higher standing hits for a hi-sec kill. This would make hi-sec pirating more profitable when done well, but also keep it rare because standing is not quite as easily earned as ISK.
The current mechanics just don't seem very interesting to me. All it really does is force you to sit in front of your (navigation) computer to be perfectly safe, right?
I'm speaking from the carebear perspective, since I have no interest in pirating. I would appreciate more tension in the player interaction outside the cut-throat free for all areas.

Well, crap! I thought it was a great idea to show that you do have recourse in such a situation! Then again, I haven't been in an NPC corp for years, so I wouldn't have any idea about such things.
In any event, there is a really awesome solution to this problem! Get a fast, small ship with a WCS or two, and don't aimlessly fly around while AFK! Warp to zero, people! WARP TO FREAKIN' ZERO!

CCP will never stop suicide ganking, because it's actually a good thing, and they like it. Think of it as a stupidity filter. (no, I'm not a suicide ganker, and yes, I lost a T1 hauler with 300M of datacores to them, but that's what I deserved for looking at p0rn sites while playing).

I'm talking about when a griefer team sacrifices one member to CONCORD in order to gank and loot an unsuspecting hi sec player with no repercussions. Now I know a lot of you will say "Well you shouldn't fly afk in Empire" or "It's just Eve man, gank em back" or "Wtf you had all your eggs in one basket?" but the reality is that for a lot of players, especially noobs, there is no recourse.
Of course there is. When I move semi-valuable stuff with my alt, I use a tanked Drake (you can get them to 80k effective HP or even more without much trouble). It require very little in skills or SP, and I don't get ganked. Or you can get an interceptor and stop playing afk. Or skill for blockade runners/deep space transports, they're not that much skill-intensive. Or ask someone in a freighter to help for a fee. or resell things that take a large volume and buy things back closer to your destination... Hell, even reading the forums once in a whle should have made you aware to the possibility of getting ganked.
There's plenty of things to do to avoid getting ganked. Your fault for not doing them. ------------------------------------------

Whoever ganked him, thanks. I usually run missions but compared to this whiner I'm not even close to carebear. Yeah, hisec suicide ganking is LAME but it's possible, clearly within game mechanics. Also putting all your veldspar in one basket is unreasonable in RL as well as in EvE. Thus you bait gankers and lose everything in a single gank.

The whole problem is not the suicide ganking... its the complete lack of any sort of repurcussion *for* it. The attackers, all of whom are alts on someone's main acct, recycled as soon as they reach -4.9, have no repurcussions at all whatsoever. They get their insurance payout, the main does not care how many times they get blown up (they get their insurance for that, too!), and make off with whatever does not get destroyed.
Remove the 2 second character slots and make people pay for their minimally skilled suicide alt. Or put all alts into the same corp. Or give the victim kill rights on all characters on the accout (and identify them to the victim).
There needs to be repurcussions for suicide ganking, it does NOT need to be removed from the game. Currently there are zero penalties for suiciding other than the occasional failure.

You can decide what kind of game you want to play. CCP can decide what kind of game they provide.
If those two desires match, then great.
As CCP have made it crystal clear that the game that they envisage does not match your conception of what you want EvE to be, you need to either change your requirements or change your game.

Meh, that stuff afk in a shuttle, you're kidding....
However blockade runners and freighters are not as safe as they should be. Someone should REALLY have to want to do it, not be able to just watch the cargo value cross an imaginary line and go for it.
I've also seen 20 day old chars suicide ganking blockade runners in apocs... If you only have to train a throw away char for it... it's too easy.

I don't get it. I have friends who run all over the place with high cost items through Jita to Duripant and beyond. With no problems. Average 4 weeks to 3 months in game. Getting targeted all the time with attempted gankings and love the excitement. They ask questions and read everything it seems.
They love it when their heart is thumping and sweating in the excitement of the cat and mouse game with those high sec gate campers. I have paid them to get things for me in Jita. Now they guarantee delivery..
Told them to read the golden rules. They understand the game well.
I tell everyone to read the golden rules before they think about playing this game.

Are you trolling? This comes up on the forums every five minutes.
What did you think all the T1 ships with cheap T1 mods running sensor boosters at gates with blockade runners or indies on standby nearby were for?
Hadn't you noticed people locking onto you when you travelled anywhere in an industrial?
Hadn't you also noticed the way camps of this sort transmogrified into an industrial wreck floating next to a battlecruiser or battleship wreck with a **** tonne of Concord ships around with alarming regularity?
Just set a high-sec only route Jita-Rens to see this fascinating part of the EVE Eco System in action.

Hello Mister Xerox,
I'm afraid you are completely mistaked in your post. Most successful suicide heists are performed with an aged, high SP character that is part of a player corporation/alliance. They do not get recycled and in fact, I am quite sure recycling characters for these kind of purposes is not allowed.
There are reprocussions to performing a high sec heist: you lose your ship, you lose security status and the person you killed gets a killright for you.
I agree with the insurance payout point, and would be perfectly fine for removing insurance on Concord kills as suggested before. I think the price for hauler/freighter kills in high sec should be higher.
Oh, and by the way. I killed the shuttle in question.

Unfortunatly high sec ganking is necessary (as well as anoying) How else can you deal with rookie corp (3 year + membership) fleets strip ming every asteroid in you ssytem wthing 12 hours of their reseeding? Only an issue to industrail corps but... How do you deal with that rookie corp alt that thinks its funny to bump you away from anchored can over and over and over? You need to be able to vent on these idiots by the occasional high sec gank. That pod sitting afk at gate with the 180mil bounty (but now a nice +3.4 sec status) is another reason we need to be able to suicide gank.
Its a shame groups of alts like s*****rdly (real corp) makea living gate camping industrials, but there are sturdier (much sturdier) t2 varients. poping the autopilot shuttle with a fortune in BPO's is also more the pilots fault. They are making it attractive to these pirates. they are going to toss t2 ships or several battleship to concord just to pop a shuttle (unless that pilot has offended them and they want revenge)without a huge profit margin.
Fly safer. And remember you DO get kill rights if they gank you, so you can nail them next time they set up a gate camp.

Most of my friends that suicide gank do it on their mains, or an alt that is in their player corp. Once the char gets too low on sec status, its back out to 0.0, rat for a while to fix it, then back into highsec if they still need more isk. There is an endless supply of lazy and/or dumb (or just misinformed) players willing to autopilot their shuttles full of freighter BPOs right into their camp. Working as intended.
I will join my fellow posters in recommending the OP to try out a certain Blizzard product instead. -------------------------- Research & Trade |

They are just doing what they game clearly designed to allow them to do which is why I'm very careful with my ships now and only fit the essential modules. For example I don't load up my mammoth to hold 22.5k M3 of ore when I'm just hauling 5k of refined ore. A new mammoth costs very little, add in the modules and I'm looking at anything up to 10 million and will probably be buying back my own modules of the person who killed.
Don't risk what you aren't prepared to lose is what my corp told me and they were right. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh dear, well yes it is a painful concept and no not one I hope will be implemented any time at all. And yes it would be very different from what we have now as it would severely curtail the freedom of action that you, I and all the gankers presently enjoy.
To quote from CCPs page on the subject:
Quote:
In the universe of EVE, no space is 100% safe. It is vital for every player to realize this as soon as possible after starting playing the game. ...
Despite the lack of absolute safety, empire space is still relatively safe. The biggest threat to the average player in Empire space is the risk of ôkamikazeö attacks when carrying a cargo of noteworthy value. Just like on modern day earth, the risk of attack rises with the amount of money sticking out of your pockets. If attacking you becomes a lucrative enough option, the best of neighbourhoods may become unsafe for you to walk around in. ...
This is not seen as an exploit of the intended game mechanics and there is no compensation or reimbursement to be had for losses caused by attacks in secure space. ...
Routinely transporting hundreds of millions worth of stuff in a hauler that costs a few hundred thousand isk can result in bright lights and loud noises.
So please do take this to heart and next time don't haul afk in a cheap ship that cannot tank. Doing that only gives the gankers cheap kills.
BTW I am astonished that a character as old as yours would have no idea about security status and safety in High Sec vs gankers. Can we assume you are the delighted new owner of said char?
