Is it worth getting and if so what is it like? Do people just like talk to eachother in specific rooms or in specific stations?
Any info would be appreciated from a practical point of view

Edited by: Sleepkevert on 06/12/2007 11:54:18 Quality of the sound is around the ventrillo quality. Even the best TS codec is nothing compared to it

And yes, eve voice deserves a take-a-look at least, i have tested it pre trinity and was surprized by the good quality. -------------------------- War. War never changes EvE Training Monitor / iMonitor / iCEO EvE iHelper |

seems ok... tried it just before downtime... could be usefull if you have non-english-speaking members in corp to relay the fleet commands from TS/Ventrillo and to ***** about how stupid the FC is :)

I am pretty satisfied with the way it works now. The good soundquality is definetly a plus over Ventrilo or TeamSpeak!

Maybe someone should remove that "After the 30 day trial you will have the option of adding unlimited EVE Voice usage for a whole year to your account subscription for the promotional price of $9.95 (reg. price $14.95), which is less than 85 cents per month."?

The account management page should be changed any day now, in the very least before your 30 day free trial runs out
If you are experienceing choppy sound then check if you have other options for audio output device in the escape menu. I have noticed that options named 'generic hardware' or something similar tend to produce choppy sound.

We use Ventrilo and EVE Voice. A few alliance members have had issues getting it to work. For me, it was quick and painless.
The quality is very good, and I like the Fleet options. I would recommend trying it out.

Since the hearing folks gets EVE voice for free, wheres the EVE web cam for us deaf players? In fact, having EVE Web cam can be a benefit for everyone including deaf people and hearing people.
Meanwhile, no other choice but to stick to typing and hope theres enough people around to be willing to type during fleet battles or roaming gangs or what not.

Only thing im missing with eve-voice, is the ability to select any buttn by pushing it.. (like in VT or TS)
Other than that, i find the feature GRATE! now I can chatt to non corp/alliance members, without bringing them on our coms! :D
Thanks for this one CCP, realy aprichiate it! :)

Edited by: Lady Trade on 06/12/2007 15:47:20 Since it's free you should activate it but personally I only used it about twice when our TS was down and I wanted to talk to a corp mate. For actual fleet communication it's pretty useless imho because as soon as you crash (and that happens damn often during a fleet) you loose your voice coms so you can't find out when to relog etc.
Nice idea but not worth much since it's tied in to the highly instable game client. Maybe CCP will find this out if I post it another 50000 times and will give us the eve-voice as a separate application thats tied into eve like TS-overlay or something. Then i'd actually think about using it for fleets and stuff. Until then it's simply a nice feature without any real use. |

TS > Eve voice.
1) You can ask if it's safe to log back in when you CTD.
(and more important)
2) You can't get banned (from Eve) for saying stuff on TS

Edited by: Norwood Franskly on 06/12/2007 15:55:15 I was really impressed with it when I tried it out, made a post about it on our alliance forum recomending we switch to it from Ventrillo.
One of our FC's made a good point, it's basically useless for PVP since you neeed to be logged into Eve to use it. In big battles clients crash a lot, if the FC's client crashes rest of the fleet will be screwed how is he supposed to call primaries if he's client is crashed. At least on vent when the FC's client crashes he can tell people and another fc can take over, with Eve voice we'll be sitting there waiting for primary call until the Fc's client times out and we realise he's crashed...
So I think it's a nice idea and our corp will be using it certainly but only as a 'social' chat type tool for any serious gang stuff we are most likely still going to be using vent, which kind of defeats the purpose of all the changes CCP decided to make to the fleet interface, oh well better luck next time guys, how bout an external voice client???
edit: two guys above beat me too it, looks like my alliance isn't the only one that has its doubts...

doesn't need to be activated it already is.
the fleet UI is great you can't do any of it on TS.
like have the main fleet commander drown out everyone. have the fleet commander talk to all 5 voice channels at once.
you can set people on a watch list and then by clicking on the little symbol next to their name talk to them privately while still listening to the fleet, and then by just clicking on the fleet wing or squad or one of two other custom channels jump back to where everyone needs to hear you.
oh man I'm loving it, thanks CCP.
and for the PVE player they don't need a TS server to just play with random people.

I doubt they monitor all eve-voice channels (or record all communications for that matter) so you probably are safer talking about your newest exploits in eve-voice then you are on TS. In TS everyone is ready to hit the "record" key as soon as someone starts singing or something so chances are higher in TS that you'll get recorded then they are in eve-voice.
Correct me if i'm wrong about the surveillance thing but i think if 5000 players are using eve-voice then it would be pretty much impossible to ever analyze everything that was said even if it's only for a single day (never mind carpet-surveillance). |

The advantage of in game VOIP is that you don't have to log in/out of third party tools which often require specific information like IP addresses, user ID's and passwords just to chat with someone. While I think the TS and VENT servers will continue to serve a purpose for alliances and corps, at this point VOIP will probobly be a good substitute for those times when when you just need to have a quick word with someone.
