Quote: First you are assuming a lot. And it doesn't take 4 months to become combat effective in a frig, it takes less then 2weeks to become combat effective. Combat superior against other frigs takes a bit longer.
I am sorry, but you are very nieve to believe that in 2 weeks you can become an effective frigate pilot.
I have nearly 10 million in skill points and I am beginning to believe I am getting effective. I have helped ensure a number of battleships have fallen, and they wouldn't have done so without frigates being present.
I would dare wager I have a lot of general skills at high level, and whilst my battleships skill might not compete, I don't believe battleships should do everything you say they do.
The fact of the matter is neither do the real military forces around the world.
A single aircraft carrier carries enough aircraft to eliminate an entire enemy fleet. It also REQUIRES 10+ support ships to protect it precisely because it is very very vulnerable.
Quote: BS's are NOT meant to be the be all to end all, the game is about team work. A BB and 2 frigs should be able to take out a lone BS, with a little teamwork, a Warpscrambler or two and some luck that the BS pilot won't log off (bad form if i may say so, which i may cause it's a forum).
A cruiser and two frigates can indeed take down a lone battleship if that pilot doesn't log off. AND THEY DESERVE TO if they manage to do it. Teamwork is the name of the game, and I believe your view that your ship should be able to win under almost all situations to be a very selfish one. One of the biggest problems with battleships is they are currently too flexible, able to do everything better then any ship.
Militaries around the world fight with economics, you see far more fighters, tanks, etc then you do battleships and carriers.
Quote: one ships however are a different matter entirely, I donŠt think that the 3-1 ratio weŠre seeing now is all that bad (means that as a rule of thumb 3 well-equipped frigates can do serious hurt on a cruiser and that 3 cruisers can take down a battleship).
The only flaw being here that the only support a battleship requires is another battleship, and that really is pretty unrealistic too.
Quote: the OPs idea about tying it all to the ship cost is rubbish imo since you can never expect that big a force to turn up. if anything, specialised roles for ships should be reinforced even more so that a small force with the right setup will be able to take on larger foes.... that will automatically push battleships into their intended roles (NOT a jack-of-all-trades ship that is automatically a better choice than a cruiser or a frigate).
Very honest and fair view of the situation, listen to those words.
Quote: THEY ARE NOT JUST STEPSTONES.
It doesn't matter the number of times I try to explain this, it seems everyone is too used to everquest or whatever the hell it is. This isn't the bigger you get the better you are. You could still be an aweful PvP player if you aren't good at it, it shouldn't matter that just because you are in the best ship your money can buy you win. Why should well played teamwork be beaten by a solo ship because you think that its everquest? Its not everquest, its not intended that way, they are different types of ships to do different things, but a battleship can do everything, which is what a lot of people are opposed to.
This is not a level grind, this doesn't mean when you reach level 50 you auto-own level 10's. This is about smart team work, and that can achieve very good success if used well, doesn't matter the cost involved.
Quote: Cause if you fly around in a BS for more than half a year it becomes awfully boring, fighting in a frigate is so much more exiting.
Thats one of the key aspects of it also, its a challenge, its fun, its hard work.
Every military in the world would laugh at you if you said you don't think its fair that one jet fighter with a missile can sink a huge and vastly more expensive ship. Why do you think they made these planes and missiles? To do just that at a fraction of the cost.
Wars are economics. The more you loose, the harder the fight is for you.
Quote: Oops, how silly of me. I thought you were looking to discuss the topic and gather other insights and opinions. Now I see you are only out to present your views and take no outside input that differs from your own.
Yep I think so, and this was why I stopped replying in another thread. It doesn't matter your view, the first words out of his reply are "WRONG!".
/emote sigh
