To release software to a customer base of 300,000 people with a bug like this shows CCP up for the bunch of cowboy hackers they are.
Given the sort of crap that slips past quality control for other companies on a pretty much daily basis, I don't think it's fair to single CCP out for it. This has never happened before, they fixed it ASAP, and gave advice on how to fix it and tried to limit the damage it did. Granted, it's a pretty major mistake to let slip past but I'm satisfied that they have taken every reasonable step to mitigate that error.
Quote: Should they pay - of course they should. Will they - I doubt it.
More importantly - CAN they pay? After all, they have no way of determining whether any person's claim against them is genuine. They'd find it very difficult to go around handing out compensation to whoever asks for it because they'll have no guarantee whatsoever that it will be going to somebody who was genuinely inconvenienced by this.
Quote: Take legal advice. A friend of mine is already suing them about other issues which all stem from their unpofesional conduct and their attitude that they can get away with anything. The more people take legal action the better chance we have of making them responsive to the people who pay.
No. They have done nothing actively illegal. Silly, yes - but if making the occasional mistake was enough grounds for litigation then we'd all be in court 24/7. Their legal obligations were filled the moment they alerted everyone to the problem, posted a solution, and fixed the cause of the error. Anything they do from that point onwards is pure charity.
If you do not like the developers of this game, then the only thing holding you to it is your own stubbornness. Nothing would please me more than to see more people put their money where their mouth is and actually quit rather than endlessly posturing and making more noise than a troop of chimpanzees. Their absence would drastically improve the average quality of this game's community. -
