being that Im not tech savvy I rebooted before the warning. Found I could not log on or anything to windows or even access it. I ended up calling Dell support found out that my warranty had expired and had to fork out $39.99 for customer service. I then lost all previous files and everything else for that matter along with final exam presentations and still can't use my pc until the recovery cd's are shipped in. Im not considered about the inconveniance Im more concerned about the extra 39.99 I had to pay ontop of what I pay to play this game in the first place. Ive been playing for well over 4.5 years and am a satisified customer. Should CCP credit me 39.99 for the inconvenience they have caused?

CCP explained (for free) how to fix the problem on this very site.

I don't think you understand I was not able to see the fix because I could not get onto desktop. I was just thinking for someone who has spent well over 900 dollars playing CCP's game they could do a long time customer a sign of gratitude.

Yeah, it's kind of a tough situation if you have no other PC, as CCP's screwup will then prevent you from being able to find their solutions.
CCP, OTOH, have nothing to do with your reliance on Dell when something goes wrong. -

This is akin to telling a blind man he is using the wrong colours to paint a wall. If your comps borked by CCP how are they going to tell you over the internet how to solve the problem?

I know its not the guys fault, but he should have had the original recovery disks. If he did not receive any disks when he bought the computer, he should speak to the dealer

Would dell recovery disks let you install the OS without wiping everything anyway? Ah well, that's come under 'reliance on dell' too, so... -

You obviously need that extra support so if you use it in the future it won't be a complete waste.

CCP may have incovenienced you, but it is Dell that is ripping you off. For $39.99 they should have atleast given you the correct solution.

Dealers don't give out recovery CD's anymore. Infact, the company doesn't even ship them anymore, so that would have done no good. Also, having the discs wont get his data back. What he should have done would have been to find another computer, look up the problem/fix from there before going and dropping cash on Dell.

Actually he should be ****ed at Dell for charging me for such crap advice. There error is pretty clear at startup. In the end it was Dell trying to get money out of the guy and they should reimburse him. I also wonder, has Dell stopped giving out windows disks? I have a Dell myself and the disks it came with are actually quite good. It just sounds like customer service screwed him over and made him not only pay too much for a fix but are also making him wait to receive it. I say boo to them. ---------------------

Dell should be compensating you for giving you the wrong tech support.
If you're not tech savvy, don't do anything to your computer whatsoever unless a tech savvy friend you trust clears it first.

Dealers are required to give you installation media for the OS. Most of them get around this requirement by giving you their "Recovery CDs" or a recovery partition, but they are still required to give you something when you buy the computer.
If you can't use your PC until the CDs arrive then you haven't done anything to it and all your stuff is still there, just follow the instructions in one of several threads to recover your Boot.ini file.

Sorry to hear. But there is something that bothers me. You said you could not look up in the internet for a fix becauce your PC is broken. Than called Dell and still cant use your PC becauce you have to wait for the recovery CDs. Right so far?
But now you are posting on the board with your broken PC?
And no. You should ask Dell for payback, becauce they ripped you off with really bad customer support.

CCP does not owe you anything.
You should be asking dell for reimb since they made you format("restore") for a bad boot.ini.
Don't ever call them for tech support especially pay support. Call your local shops. Any average tech could have fixed your problem without "restore".
