This is the stupidest thing I've read all day.
It's not the driver's fault for being in a wreck. It's the car manufacturer's for letting us drive the car anywhere we want.
Shockingly stupid doesn't begin to qualify the above quote.
Actually, the quote is not wrong!!
Microsoft's OS is shockingly badly designed. Most proper OS would have a file like that locked down so only sysadmins could touch it, and a problem like this wouldn't have occured.
To use your car analogy, if a car manufacturer had made their car so pressing a small, anonymous button looking just like 1000's of other buttons made the car explode, the car manufacturer WOULD be responsible.
CCP should of.c. have tested their patch a lot better, but under a properly behaved OS, an application would not be ABLE to cause problems like this.
Because everybody has a sysadmin on call 24 hours a day right?
If by sysadmin you mean root access... mac/linux/bsd/solaris/etc all allow root to rm -f critical files.
You really suck at being a *nix/mac fanby .

The matter of the fact is, that a PROPER OS wouldn't have allowed ANY application to let a simple mistake like this screw up the system. Linux wouldn't! MacOS wouldn't!
Vista is not safe against bugs like this either even if you try to say so. It just happened not to be affected by this one because it didn't have that particular file. Unfortunately, Vista has essentially the same design fault as XP, since applications install either with super-user credentials, or can elevate themselves to that level.
Microsoft is just as much to blame as CCP, since they are the ones who've released a platform which is not immune to these kinds of user errors.
Your Microsoft fanboi'ism is funny, and my guess is a lot of people are amused at your selective blame-casting. I know I am
Look how dumb you are!
Fact: You CAN delete system files in linux in Admin mode
rm -r /boot !
Fact: You CAN delete system files in machintosh in Admin mode
Fact: Both of these operating systems need you to go into admin mode (at minimum sudo on linux or whatever the equiv on machintosh) to install stuff globally
Now shut the **** up about this please because you are provably wrong . Your "real" os that denies the user the ability to config (and therefore wreck config files) does NOT exist, except in toasters.

No they didn't, but a proper OS would not have allowed them to change it! MS made a ****ty OS which can be crashed by simple user errors (remember that CCP didn't do this on purpose)! CCP made a bad mistake in not testing their patch properly!
Point? MS gave you the gun, CCP took it from you and shot you in the face. ________ "It's a good day to die!"

Look at the post above
Difference is, MS OS has admin access as the ONLY option. Other OS can be made (and usually is by default) secure against this kind of mistake.
Stop lying. Your apologetics for Microsoft make you look like a fool. Your irrational hate for CCP (and your lying about their mistake) makes you look childish.

WIN XP CAN ALSO BE MADE SECURE And linux doesnt come out of the box configured with wheel groups or partitioned root schemes so please, shut the **** up
Yes today people are entitled on a bit of CCP hating because peoples computers have been WRECKED by incompetance not of there own making. So just shut the hell up because people are not 'hating on ccp', they are being legitimately angry and want answers. ----------- HI IM DUCKMONSTER VOTE DUCKMONSTER IK OF CAOD 07 Signature removed. What the Hell are you talking about? When is the last time you used Windows?
Not to mention, this doesn't even address how WRONG you are about Mac, Linux, etc.
You are either stupid, or lying. Look at the other responses to this thread to see how lost you are.

As just said, a standard install of both these operating systems will not allow you to do things like you describe
If however, you are such an incredible moron that you run your Linux or MacOS box in admin mode when installing games, well, then you're probably: a. Not doing too well in CS b. Prone to proselytize microsoft c. Member of GoonSwarm

Of.c. you can always wreck any computer OS. The difference however is that only MICROSOFTS computer OS doesn't make any attempt whatsoever to prevent the user from doing so!

I wonder how many people here played the Japanese version of Star Ocean 3.
A good deal of the reason console games were fairly bug free, was that the bugs were all fixed for the North American versions once the Japanese consumers discovered them all.
Off the top of my head though, I can think of some collosal bugs in several final fantasy games, ever try and use Realm's sketch on something that was invisable in FF6?
