No doubt recent events will remain with us EvE players and the gaming community for some time. And after the dust settles no doubt there will be accusations on how this sort of monumental mistake was able to sneak past the QA teams, management, and all other affiliated parties.
This sort of reminds me of that chilly morning of January 28, 1986 (Well, I had not been born yet but you get the idea). The same "Go Fever" (sacrificing safety for a speedy deployment) that had also resulted in the fire of Apollo 1 would strike again this time in NASA's relatively new ship, the Challenger. And yes we do not know the details of Trinity's timeline, but I must honestly say that from the first major announcements and press releases, to the accrual deployment, seemed like an unusual short amount of time.
This raises questions that perhaps CCP were as well enveloped in this "Go Fever" phenomenon, perhaps to get out something they had been working on for a while without the proper checks, perhaps to show the world they were capable of delivering the goods faster than the competition. I have even heard that this issue was known internally but was dismissed, an eerie comparison to the engineers who told NASA of the faulty O rings but were shot down by management.
Regardless of what happens, I do not want to see CCP go down for this, as I would not have wanted NASA to also be removed. Take Trinity as a lesson though, that you must ignore the constant crying for attention gamers want to ensure your product is virtually sound and beneficial.
And like others have said, one day we will look back and laugh at this.

Don't even compare this to people losing their lives.

Aside from the tasteless comparison of this horrible patch deployment to the loss of human lives, I'd like to point out that this is not the first time CCP has deployed a patch that has damaged an OS.
So no, they don't learn from their lessons. They use an EULA to cover for their poor performance.

You could always uninstall, cancell your subscription and never play again. I mean really all these people with so many problems with a game then WHY play it? If its THAT bad, go away and play another game...
SO they screwed windows a bit.. They also posted a fix which works, for free i might add... So QA department maybe didnt do a good job...
To compare even attitudes of what happened to challenger or any other NASA accident is tbh ******** and you should delete your account imo

Hi there Mr. Moron.
That day in 1986 I was standing in my college commons watching the death of those heroes.
This isn't even close.

Edited by: Cedric Diggory on 07/12/2007 01:25:00 [rant]Oh come on, they screwed up... but it really doesn't take an IT tech to restore a boot.ini file. Anyone with a legal copy of windows and zero tech knowledge should be able to do it in under twenty minutes without losing any data (depending on how you install your "illegal" copy, you can get the same results) just by whacking a windows disc in and following the on screen instructions, and anyone with half a clue and the appropriate tools would've spotted that the installer was about to nerf your boot.ini file in the first place.
Get a grip. If you lost data to this, then really it's noones fault but your own for being unprepared.[/rant]
I find the reference to Challenger distasteful. If you intend to insinuate that this will be the end of Eve much as many considered Challenger to be the end of the US space program, I'd like to point out that you sent a probe to mars, and plan to send people there eventually.
If however it's some ironic joke that I'm just not getting, please ignore me.

No, it's just than even in General Discussion this kind of comparison is just wrong. -

Give them a break... The installer is not exactly where you would expect the critical bugs to appear in usually. That doesn't excuse anything, but **** happens, and it could have been overlooked no matter how long the release would have been delayed.
