I must admit, that when I first logged on and started mining, I viewed the new mining beams as a surprise, and an unwelcome one at that.
Until I decided to watch them for a while. It wasn't long before my eyes were doing that little swirly thing and I was starting to drool.
Then I woke up with the urge to buy another account. Obviously, I am a victim of subliminal messaging. I demand that the original mining beams be returned!
Or it could be that I need a hauler alt, and the beams kindly brought this repressed need to the surface...

I really don't like them. They are really light on the effects, especially given the new effects on the cloak/decloak. Now it looks like I'm shooting the 'roids with some sort of blue laser, almost like a Hobgoblin's beam.
That and the new barges that look way too boxy and clean are basically my only complaints. |

What bugs me the most is the awful sound - the same as mining lasers (the old miner Is). I hated that sound, couldn't wait for the strip miners. Guess what?
Oh well.

I have to agree here too. And im a little suprised at how few people have been talking about this.
THe new lasers, at least to me look broken. The single blue line from the mining laser to the roid wouldnt look out of place in the amstrad verson of elite. It has none of the force or power the old effect had.
Couple that with a sound similar to that of two broken chainsaws in a fight, and im wondering if i can even put up with it. I cant mine with the sound on now thats for sure.
I really hope this is a mistake and they attached the wrong effect to the strips. |

New mining laser graphics are really really bad. No idea why they were changed but personally i much much prefer the old ones. Will be using classic client for my purely mining account for sure.
Still its a minor thing and everything else i have seen has been awesome so cant complain too much :D

Absolutly agree, I rember the Amstrad Elite thing and the lasers do look like something out of the 80's. I mean come on broken pulsing blue line thing !, I look at it this way if there were such a thing as a mining laser in RL then it would lock on permantly for it's cycle like the old ones, not pulse pulse, Yuk I hate them.

I thought it was all bugged but now its looking more like an intentional change.
Which makes me sad

Mining lasers must be changed in the next patch. The colours fine but the pulses are too short and the beams to narrow. |

It's not intentional. I'm looking at the problem at the moment to try and fix it asap.

Yay!! Is it also not intentional, that the strip miners themselves are so small? At least smaller than inside stations, or has that been changed (haven't docked since the patch).
And... what color do Ice Harvesters have now?

Thang god it is being sorted. That ultra short pulse is annoying and really does detract from the original powerful look of a mining beam. The short sound to go with it makes it seem more like I'm shooting a pulse laser instead of a mining beam. It's enough to put anyone off mining for life.

Yeah, bring back the mining laser sound.
It's loud and powerful and gives me a heads up to look for drones when it finally shuts off after I emptied the litterbox : ) "Every complex problem has a solution that is easy, neat and wrong." |

Please confirm that both the sound AND the animation are fk-ups and will be fixed. They are BOTH awful and an extreme disapointment. Speaking of disapointment... why did you change the color scheme for ORE? The dark colors looked fantastic... they are dirty mining ships... now they are all clean and stuff. Looks funky.

I actually quite like the new models. I hope both the sound and animation are fixed too, i'm sure they will be.
I would say though, considering the amount of more major issues there are at the moment, we should be grateful to have either looked at so quickly.

Personally Id rather the beam be permanent, not cyclic. IE, it stays on until the cycle is complete. Not goes on and off every 2 secs. Dont care about the look otherwise.

Imagine a dual blue beam, really thin, and the animation/sound playing about 5X faster than they used to with strip miners
Looks like a beam energy turret, blue.
