*taps mic* Umm... is this thing on? Okay, here it goes:
Over the last couple of weeks, I (and my various alts) have had a lot of fun engaging CA pilots in frigates. I have yet to have a bad exchange in local; the smack talk has been limited and generally good natured. It's a good example of how even enemies can be civil to one another and remember that it's just a game. These fights are fast-paced, exciting and challenging. My thought was why not do this on a grander scale one night?
What I am suggesting would be that CA and SA gather an equal number (or as close as possible) of pilots and meet somewhere to have what could only be termed as a bar brawl in space. Tyrell has done this internally a couple times and the resulting furball was gaming heaven. Now imagine about 50 or 60 frigates just tearing into one another! No battleships, no cruisers, just a huge dogfight to the finish!
I would also be curious to see how the CCP servers handle 100 ships in the same system that aren't giant battlewagons.
This idea was inspired by a comment I made jokingly in another thread, but the seed seems to have taken root. I know that there are a lot of people on both sides of the SA/CA conflict who would welcome a change of pace from the continual 'blob wars' every Friday and Saturday night. Well, here it is. This is a chance to do something truly different and, more importantly, fun. It's not a Frigate March; it's a battle!
So, how about it CA? Is there anyone over there willing to carry the torch on this and seriously try to enforce a 'Frigates Only' fight? _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau

EV had a frig tourney aswell, and it was immense fun.
Only thing is: EV made a set of rules to make frig load outs even, i.e. no cruise missiles for kessies, and no EW. It made the fights pure SLUG-FESTS, which was great. :D
If this goes ahead, i doubt any rules will be followed, other than frigs only rules, so it should be interesting to say the least... i hope it happens , cos i will be there.
I hope to see Kisula & Dr. Killer there, so i can even the score >:)

Any thoughts on this? I think it would be very hard to ensure no one brought EW or CMs, but I do think it would make for a longer, more interesting fight. _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau

Edited by: Saladin on 10/03/2004 14:47:21 I probably won't take part in this since frigate fights are fast paced and you need to make decisions and excute them quickly. The kind of lag hickups experienced in big fights make this not possible. As for no CM's or EW, thats just as lame as the amarr tournament. The rules of that tournament were set to favor the punisher. If you want to have a fight, then have a fight. Don't start restricting loadouts --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Well, that's also part of it, Saladin. I've been involved in frgate/cruiser battles near the gates in Yulai and Amarr with thirty or more ships around and everything is smooth as glass. Without all those big battleships in the area, a one hundred person battle might actually be feasible. Besides, what's the most you can lose? 100-300k for a ship and modules? What's the risk? If you want, we could even agree to a 'no podding' rule, but I don't know if that would be popular! _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau

I think that would be great fun. We are inevitably going to get some gate crashers turn up in BS but it would be good to be a part of.
As Al says, whats the most you are going to lose? A frigate with standard equipment is cheap, the most expensive thing will probably be your clone.
The most dangerous thing will be SA and CA working together to try and get this thing organised.

Sounds like fun, perhaps this could mean a new era of cooperation between CA and S......nah, I cant even finish that sentance it makes me laugh so much
One thing I would like to mention: gatecrashers wont be a problem for you folks. I would love too see what 80-100 frigates does to a small fleet of battleships

Good idea.
I'd like to join as well.
Maybe the one rule should be no CM's tho. Since otherwise it'll just be a kessie tournament. And i dont think the lag will be anyhting remotely like with Battleships. _______________________________________________

I'll speak for Tyrell and say we're willing to sponsor this, as a corp. If the CA council would like me to go ahead, we can initiate planning and I can put info on the Tyrell website for you guys. Maybe make this a recurring thing? Would be a blast that's for sure! And after all, that's what we're all here for.
Those of you that know me, know that neither myself nor my corporation would use this as a political exploit. We act honorably, and have faith that ANY corp that feels like doing this with us would do the same. Either way, what have you got to lose -- a couple frigates?

Drunkenmaster - As one of Eve's premier videographers I think it would be safe to say in a coordinated event like this you could be a declared neutral and safe for filming this. I personally would insure you for 40 Million for implants if that is your worry. That is provided there is buy in from CA on declaring you a neutral.

Edited by: Xamand on 10/03/2004 19:48:36 Drunk, if you want to come down and make a movie, do so. If you can role an alt and name him something topical then all the better, but all you need is an alt in a frigate. If we all know you are there in the official capacity of cameraman, then I'm willing to say that Tyrell won't open fire on you (this one time - assuming you don't fire first ) I say to come down with an alt because accidents can and will happen. Although we will attempt to make all the other participants aware of your presence, no doubt we will most likely miss some of the later arrivals

Sounds great to me. this outta be great fun for all. And as for load outs...as I understand it most frigate events do not have EW or CM's. And you can do serious damage with Heavys or lights for that matter. So I don't see what the big deal is, besides the action last longer that way.
I see no reason not to trust Drunkenmaster to come film this. as a matter of fact I think all of CA should endorse this idea.
Lets keep it fun and clean. and a time to all let our hair down.

thing you gotta remember with using CM's, they are a bit too expensive to waste on a frig tourney and they do sorta kill the fun a bit (being able to kill another frig in one volley or dying in one volley isnt fun) heavys would be cool and if we all agree on no podding (even if we do i can see alot of ppl getting podded anyway) heavys wouldnt pod any1 by accident unless you have 3 kessy shootin em at ya when you die. if this goes foward im in for sure!. ------------------------------------------- Voted "Best" |

I doubt that everyone is going to agree with the no podding. but its something to think about since alot of pilots won't fly with a ton of implants in the head.
besides, I think that there are alot of pilots on both sides with too much vengance on the brain to put the hostilitys aside for one night.
Hmmm thin at best. as much as I like this idea I dont see how its gonna go through with out it being managed from the out side.
I can already see people thinking about jumping with cruiser's with podding on the brain.

Okay, everyone, how is this for a first start on the "rules":
I will fly out to U-Q tomorrow and find a moon. At that moon I will anchor a small secure container named "SA Rally Point". One hundred kilometers away, I will anchor another small secure can named "CA Rally Point". When the event starts, pilots from each side will gather within ten kilometers of their respective can and await the declaration of hostilities.
Prior to the actual shooting, each side shall have a representative take a head count of all the pilots in his group. Depending on the turn-out for this event, each side will agree upon if the size of the opposing force is acceptable to the other and, if needed, adjust their numbers accordingly. (No point in a 80 vs. 30 match!)
---------
RULES:
1.) No ECM. 2.) No Cruise Missiles. Heavy, light and defender missiles are allowed. Heavy and light FoF missiles may be used if desired. 3.) No podding. Just to make sure those pilots who value their implants show up, let's put this one in there.
Engagement Rules:
A pilot may not leave the engagement area. You can MWD a couple hundred kilometers away if you want to recharge shields, reload weapons, etc.., but warping away from the battle area counts as a kill for the opposing team. This is not going to be easy to monitor, folks, so essentially we're going to just have to go with the honor system here. Don't let your side down
Fight Time:
I propose an initial gathering time to begin at 0030 EVE time, 14 March 04. At 0100 EVE time, a neutral party (Drunkenmaster, the cameraman maybe?) will declare the beginning of hostilities in Local chat. Combat ends when the battle area has been cleared and claimed by one side by either destroying the opposing team or forcing them to warp away.
-----------
I think the above guidelines are fair and reasonable. Discussion?
Lastly, if we do actually manage to stage this event, let's do it in such a fashion that it does not turn into something ugly. One side is going to win and the other is going to lose. So long as everyone plays by the rules, there's no reason that either side should start posting threads about cheating or owning or any of the other flame bait.
I hold no illusions that SA and CA are going to be friends anytime soon, but if this actually works... well, hell, even the Americans and the Soviets sent their respective teams to the Olympics. Maybe the next event could be an actual structured tournament? I mean, who around here wouldn't want to take a shot at the Amarr champion, eh?
Keep the feedback coming, everyone. Let's see if we can actually make this happen. _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau

Looking good so far, gonna make for one hell of a fight :D
And on the subject of ppl breaking the frigate only rules... they will only be making themselves bigger targets, imagine if one side sees a cruiser in the midst of all the frigs, u KNOW he/she is gonna get targetted by about 30 frigs and get served-up in no time at all... it'd be like painting a huge target on ur ship.
Only problem i can see is that if someone warps in with a BS equipped with smartbombs ( hope i don't give anyone ideas )
I wonder if there's any group of ppl out there who could act as " bouncers " , who would let us have a fair fight without getting involved, and at the same time sort out any trouble makers or rule breakers ?
Or perhaps, who cares what happens... i bet it would still be the best fight either side has had in ages.
