7 stage mission. Be careful as step 5, has a warp-locking BS, a new encounter for me on lvl 3 missions. Lost a cerb ;/

Thanks for the heads up, just got it and on step 2, couldn't find *any* info on it. What types of damage were they doing, if you recall?

emp/therm i believe. Be *very* wary of energy neut towers (like 4 in stage 4 and 6 in stage 5) and stasis towers as well.

I passive tank with my Drake, I'll toss my emp hardeners on for that. Anything else you can tell us about these missions? The ores in the first mission was a nice surprise, heh.
Anyone else have any experience with this mission yet?

The only surprises for me were the BS's that show up and the gratuitous use of energy neut towers. Having some nice alloy to refine (morph, zyd) was a nice surprise on a lvl 3, however, as I mentioned above, the warp lock that ended up killing me was not so nice. Passive Drake should be good, just see how much range you can squeeze out.

I just did 6 parts of this mission in my Harbinger, which I almost lost. Can you tell me anything about part 7? I'm greatly concerned about the line which says "bring your friends".
BTW. I believe giving this quest line to the Amarr pretty much qualifies as torture.

Mine the one asteroid with the stuff in it. You can have it shown on the overview by activating 'Gneiss' Roids. Good Luck ;)

Is it just me.... or is this mission chain a lot harder than other lvl 3 missions, with about 1/5 the rewards?

I lost a Cerberus too. Are you sure the battleship is the only thing that warp locks? I thought the battleship was over 40km from me when I warp-locked.
To be honest I lost a Dominix too.. lol. I tried to do the mission with my other account. I just couldn't accept not finishing the mission. Lost two good ships with T2 items and all I got was a reduction in agent/corp standings.
It's a nasty mission. There are at least 4 or 5 energy neutralizing towers, 2 or so webbing towers, some sort of warp-locker/s, missle batteries, a battleship and loads and loads of drones. I think some of the drones may have been taking my cap too.
Obviously, get those energy neut towers quick (I did this part). I just couldn't figure out who was warp-locking me. I killed one drone called a Crippler (something like that) It was the only one I saw with that name, and at the time, I thought I got my warp-locker.... but I was wrong.

its not the bs sized drone, its several of the smaller drones, I poped the bs and got the loot then got scrammed and popped. with the neut towers and the scrammers its a total different beast then I was used too.

Edited by: Le Dentiste on 08/12/2007 15:29:46 This is how I beaten it (active armor tanking tempest): Warp in, align, strike neutraliser tower with large arty+proton, wait for it to boom, warp out. If The drones come too close, blast them with smartbombs Reapeat 5 times Change fit to torps, attack the BS with torps and drones, while trying to push him away from the hive.
If you want to survive (with active tanking), it absolutly necessary to blast all the neuts and the frigs or you may have a bad surprise. Bs in himself do little damage and even when he locked me, he never approached at 30km by himself. And he's slow.
Neuts first, frig second, BS last. and try to destroy him far away from his hive because reinforcements come when he's on armor. Extreme fitting adaptation is the key.
Good luck, took me about a hour and half.

Look for a small asteroid called... Green Arisite. The icon for it looks like Gneiss. You can mine with a simple tech one laser, just make sure you have enough cargo space, 47 units take up a few hundred m3....forgot the exact amount of m3.

I thought of trying a smart bomb too, I haven't used one in years. I thought of also trying an ECM AoE burst that disrupts target locks up to a sensor strength of 7.2 for all types, up to a range of about 7000m. I thought this might cause the closest drones to lose target lock. If these drones are anything like my drones, which have very low sensor strengths, they should lose target lock.

I was worried about the 'bring' your friends part too.
I ended up running the lot in a passive, T2 fitted drake, also rigged.
With the passive i was able to ignore the cap towers and drop the smaller drones, lowering the DPS until i could ignore it safely.
I didnt notice the warp locking BS though roflol. oops - good thing i didnt have to warp :s

Just completed level 5!!
OMG!!!
Talk about tought. Usually NOTHING gets close to testing my tank, but here, with two tech2 passive hardners, my shields went down to 30% and held. Due to DPS killing off smaller ships. I had come to terms with the fact that i was going to loose my beloved drake, but for some amazing reason she held.
Although i have to say, this level is VERY tough. Next time i'm going to kit my drake out exclusively for tanking, no 2 BCU II.
Just to give people an idea, I ran my fit through EFT so as to give a rough idea of how much EMP/Thermal you need to be able to tank for this mission, part 5 anywhoo. It turned out that due to the neut towers being very strong, and my skills low, i was only able to tank around 250DPS, but that was JUST about enough to make it.
Is part 6 adn 7 harder than 5???

Just did this whole line today. First and foremost everytime you see them, kill the energy neut towers. They make your day much much harder. One of the missions has 5 of them in it and they drained me dry...thank goodness for missles.
Also, be observant about which drones do the most damage to you. To me (mix of T1/T2 rigged passive drake) the drones that sat at about 11km (think they were called Violators) did massive amounts of damage compared to their closer orbiting counterparts. Leave the BS's until last. Their damage is middling compared to how long they take to kill. I also kinda ignored the Viral strain/strain drones. Their damage is not on par with the strength of their tank and they took a long time to kill.
On the mission where you are sent to take out the Delanien-controlled ship, what I did was fight off a bunch of ships that were out past 4km...then went back to station, fitted smartbombs and finished off all the little ones. Much faster than targetting each one singly.
Take home note: Kill neut towers. Kill Violators.

Could not agree more. My Drake's tank held well after the violators were dead. And those Neut towers are horrible. And a smartbomb is almost a given, if only for sanity's sake.
My first attempt at part 5 had me warping out with my unrigged T2-equipped Drake at 100% armor and 80% structure damage. (repair bill 4 MILLION Isk! For a cruiser! Had to buy a cheap hull repairer and orbit the station for a while.)
The rogue drones all seemed to share a primary vulnerability to EM, both in shields and armor. I tried several different shield tanks over the course of the series, but damage returned to Drake appeared to cross the spectrum with a bit more in Explosive and EM.
I've actually found the overall rewards pretty comparable to other L3s, but have not yet done part VII.

I would have to disagree.
I followed this advice, and tried to kill the neuts first, but by the time I had killed them all but one, the swarm of drones had cought up and were overwhelming me. I ended up just about surviving, with the shields holding at 30%.
Therefore from now on, the best way in my opinion is to go completely passive, and completely ignore the neuts, and kill the drones as they approach, untill the incoming DPS has been reduced enough, so that you can THEN kill the neut towers.
That is the best way in my opinion.

I finished part 7 a couple hours ago. It is very similar to Part 5, minus the evil Neut Towers. (I cannot imagine doing part 5 with an Amarr ship).
I fitted my Drake with two smartbombs to quickly pulverize the small drone swarms and focused missile fire on the violators, and had far fewer problems than with Part 5.

this mission chain is really fun!
finaly something at lvl 3 with a challange^^ tho i did loose my myrmidon with 3 rigs n lots of tech 2 stuff:/ kinda sucked...
U also can make ALOT of ore from mining the geniss at the secound part of this mish.
Completed it one time with my myrmidon and drones.. some warping out:P also completed it once with my brutix and then i almost didnt have to warp out on any of the missions... but the brutix is built for speed and tracking + railguns so i took most of them at +50km away
only really hard mish is the one where u start with 6 energy neutralizer towers 66km away and 2 stasis towers:/ there u better get in to optimal range from as far away as possible align for warp n try take out as many as the towers as possible... lost a couple of drones here both times:/

Edited by: Arkedon on 13/12/2007 07:52:51 I just got this mission today. Kudos to the mission designers for making this interesting. However, I feel for the laser/blaster pilots who need to get in close range to kill their targets.
Just some notes for those who have not started this mission: Stage 1: Although this is designated as a mining mission, DO NOT warp into the mission are with your miner. A few waves of mercenaries are waiting for you. Kill all the hostiles first and then return with your miner. Besides the mission ore, the belt also has some mid/high tier ores in small amounts scattered all over. (Gneiss and Omber when I did the mission).
Stage 2: Think of the "Damsel In Distress" mission. Only this time, you are fighting drones and the "damsel" is not so willing to come with you.
Stage 3: Courier mission
Stage 4: Your main target is a battleship/drone hybrid, escorted by droves of rogue drones. As the others have stated, smartbombs are an excellent choice on this one. You do not need to kill all the drones. Just kill the primary target and loot the object.
** I believe there were at least two energy neut towers in this stage as well. However, I was so busy trying to stay alive I neglected to keep notes and screenshots of the rest of the battle :)
Stage 5: Several energy neut towers + stasis towers are lumped together in one spot. The neut towers were able to drain all my cap very fast. This is where passive tanking + missile weapons really have an advantage, as you can keep fighting with no cap. There are 2 (or maybe just 1) drone that is able to warp scramble. You need to take this out quickly if you plan on warping out to escape. Look for the drone that is hitting you with the warp scramble beam (blue bubble beams). I did have to warp out a couple of times to give my shields a chance to regen. I was not able to take out all the towers in one jump.
Stage 6: Another courier mission.
Stage 7: Your main target is a battleship/drone hybrid escorted again by droves of rogue drones. First deadspace jump, the battleship will appear and then run away. Several rogue drones will appear and aggro. In the same area you will see a pathfinder node. I am not sure if you need to clear the area before the pathfinder node is unlocked. I had killed all the drones by the time my slow Drake made it within jump range :)
After you jump from the pathfinder node, you will again see the battleship/drone hybrid. This time it is escorted by much much more drones. You do not have to kill any of the drones. You just have to kill the battleship to complete the mission.
EM damage seems to be the best against the drones and the battleship (battlecruiser) hybrids.
Has anyone tried to destoy the infested station in stage 7? I did not have enough firepower on my drake (nor do I have the patience) to try it. I wonder if it dropped anything good :)
This mission chain reminds me of Homeworld:Cataclysm with the whole virus/plague possessing the ships and stuff :).

I destroyed the station in part 7 and was very ****ed off when it didn't drop anything... never gonna run that mission chain again... its a pain in the ass to loot the 100s of drones and the nuet towers are ridiculous... I tried to get out of range of the nuet towers and you can't, even when they "miss" you they still drain your cap.

well - after reading the guide i was quite surprised on mission 2 (lvl3)
1st pocket with: 1x statis tower 3x bomber several short range drones aggro on warp-in
after using the acc-gate, i noticed: 1x statis tower 2x neut tower 4x sentry tower 2x bomber several short range drones aggro on warp-in
as soon as you blow the lab up, 5 additional drones arrived
since i did this in a caracal, i had to warpout some times ... and luckily there is no warpscrambler :)

Ok I don't see what everyone is so worried about with this mission. I read this forum and it lead me to believe that people were being slaughtered by a level 3 mission.
I'll mainly point out 5 of 7 which has the potential to eat you alive if you don't take the right strategy.
note I did this mission in a minmatar cyclone with projectile and shield tank.
The main key factor in this mission is the neut towers that suck up your cap. There are actually 5 total towers. When you warp in all but one tower is 62 range at warp in. If you are a ranged fighter then you will want to fly towards them and take them out asap. After 4 are destroyed the last one doesn't do enough by itself to bother you. They do have more HP than a regular lvl 3 mission sentry. As long as you have 2 or so invul hardeners if you do shields you should be fine, and never have to shield boost.
When I did the mission I never had to warp out. I think newer players will have the most difficulty with this mission as they have to warp in and out all the time. If you are a short range fighter then.. All I can say is fly as far away from the neut towers as possible, or make sure you have an awesome passive invul tank with missiles.. I'm not sure what their activation range is, but you won't last if you have no cap. You need to take out all of the baddies out of the neut tower's range before you can head back to take out the regular towers at close range.
Either way range people should have no problem with this mission. If you are range, take the first 4 neut towers out ASAP. Then lay back for the rest of the mission.
Almost every tower you kill will spawn about 4-8 drones. They spawn the second you attack the item. They spawned once for the set of missile batteries, not once per battery. And then two spawns of 3 drones for each stasis tower.
There is no ore on this level like I read in other posts. Drone totals are about 30-40, not really enough to need bombs I think.
7 of 7 like everyone else says, isn't as bad because there are no neut towers. Just have to watch out for warp jamming if you have to warp back and forth to complete a mission. --------------
