Edited by: Malarki X on 07/12/2007 10:56:18 Ok so ... this is my rig:
CPU: C2D 6400 @ 3,1 GHz RAM: 2GB DDR800 @ 800 VGA: XFX 8800 GT 512 Mb VRAM OS: Vista
Something that should definatley run EVE premium no sweat.
Setings: Shadows higgh, HDR- OFF, AA-OFF, ANISO-OFF.
So in stations , rating, mining - its all fine and dandy. 60-100 FPS average and its smooth.
THEN - you warp to friendly POS with 30 ppl there and get a lovely 15 FPS average. Zoom in to youre ship and take view to emoty space and its 60+ again. Interestingley I only heard 88xx users complain about this.
I shudder of a fleet battle. Can you imagine 100 people in space if 30 ppl kills youre quite nice rig ?
Hell if comp can run games like Bioshock or Crysis or Witcher no problemo - I think it should be able to run EVE premium as well. Especialy with no AA and such on ...

POS structures haven't been renovated in content yet, so they're still using all the old models which have significant performance issues. You're almost certainly see exactly the same issue in the classic client.
There's nothing representative about comparing old content starbase structures against renovated ships.

I see ...
So generaly - all should be fine with ships around stargates and such. But as soon as we assault a POS and use premium client - FPS count drops due to heavy CPU usage.
Interesting problem.
Oh and I wasnt comparing - I was complaining on FPS ( Frames Per Second ) loss with multiple ships on my screen.

Thats windows Vista for you, its awful.
My 8800 GT is doing 120 FPS in station and ~100 in space where its quiet, dropped to an all time low of 38 FPS outside dodixie station last night when there were 320+ in system, but hey, what can you expect? There were atleast 40 ships visible and a couple of muppets having a fight.
Thats with AAx16 AND HDR on using nHancer. I'm using a 975 chipset board and Windows XP, its screaming along.

Because the old content is typically very inefficient and CPU heavy.

Same card here and no problem. I have HDR on, shadows on low (high was killing frame rate) and bloom on low (high bloom was causing stutter on gate activations somehow). Dunno what my framerate is as I dont care, it looks as smooth as you could want.
No AA as I run at 1600x1200 and would have to stare hard to notice jaggies.

I have no issues with FPS (some 30-40 most of the time) except with several NPCs (such as missions) and at Stargates. At stargates my game slows to a crawl :(

Eh, so old graphics in the premium client is still rendered by the old engine...? ........ When ever in doubt; troll.

Considering classic does not use the old engine, no. Its just the old models in the new engine. ---------------------------------

I have an 8800GTS, running with shadows on normal, HDR/bloom on, forced 16x AA, and I'm averaging 40fps while running missions, 60-70 while in space (aside from a few moments of massive lag the first time I undock/jump after logging as the graphics cache). And I don't think I even have the most recent drivers. So, play with your graphics settings some, until you get something that looks good and runs good. -- Aeran Hermas

Im sure that problem is between keyboard and chair - as it ussualy is
Since I use window mode - there is no AA and bloom I just dont like.
Still - I get less FPS then 7900 single card user. Strange ...
I guess CCP didnt take 8800 arhitecture into account - streaming processors.

There is noting wrong with Eve and the 8800 cards, its working fine, there may be something wrong with your drivers or setup, however.

Edited by: Tolas on 07/12/2007 15:20:54 I use:
CPU: x2 3800+ RAM: 2GB 333 Mhz (yes it sucks, yes I used cheap double sided ram in a dual channel board which makes it 333 instead of 400 Mhz) VGA: EVGA 8800 GT 512mb KO OS: Vista Ultimate 32 bit
Shadows set to High (extreme cut my FPS in half) HDR- On Bloom - High Cache - High
Full Screen Resolution: 1680x1050 (widescreen) Color Depth: 24 bit color with 8 bit Alpha Septh/Stencil Format: 32 bit z-buffer with 8 bit stencil Present Interval: Interval One (V-synch turned on to get rid of screen tearing)
no AA or AAF
I get 50-60 FPS inside and out of stations. (sometimes drops into the 40s inside)
I do have jaggies and may go the nhancer AA+HDR route I see people talking about, but so far the game is pretty and it runs smooth for me.

The only time I have seen is studder is when large number of ships ( 20+ ) was on screen.
First on way to Jita - some 10 jumps off, when there are plenty of COncorde and a few players around. FPS just drops to 15. I thought it was lag. Kinda odd to see it 10 jumos away, but it was day after patch.
Second time at a POS with 30+ ppl inside the shields. Acording to DEV - POS is still using old engine routines and needs heavy CPU to even function. So OK - they know what it is and will fix it in due time.
Im bug hunting mode ATM. Drivers are definatley not to blame - since I allways refersh them with new vesion ( yes all the drivers and yes I know the procedure ).
Perhaps its Vista thats the bottleneck. Could be, considering she uses DX10 natively and DX9 through a compatibility mode.

Honestly mate, try nHancer and crank up the AA and HDR, its just plain gorgeous and will help you rule out any driver config issues.

I wish everyone was as chill as you. Most people would rather have settings maxed on 1024x768 than have it at 1600x1200 and have it look better but not have settings set to maxxed.
