With the new modules sizes, looting/salvaging has become a massive pain. Most ships don't have the cargo hold necessary to actually loot, and industrials don't have enough highs to use salvagers and tractors. It would be relatively easy for ORE to produce a customized Salvage ship.
8 highs 1 mids 1 low 2000 Cargo Much bigger capaciter than a normal industrial Slightly slower than a normal industrial Enough CPU/Grid to put an AB/MWD on, along with a full set of tractors or salvagers.
Role Bonus: 99% fitting bonus to salvagers and tractors CPU/GRID Salvager Ship Skill: +10% cargo and +20% tractor beam range per level.

Maybe more lows and mids may help?
I mean, if there is such a specialized vessel, it should be able to clean the salvage and hacking exploration sites (after a little fight for cleanup), then it needs medslots for both AB/mwd (because slow is boring) and codebreaker.
Anyway, with no turret or missile slots, there isno risk for it to compete with the destroyer class, so it's quite safe from reconverting the hull into something for combat. Maybe something to avoid it filled with nos and neuts ans smartbombs would be good?
And some small dronebay for personal defense would be good (as most ore ships do). -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Destroyers, albeit without the cargo, do very well at this job. I feel no need for such a specialized ship.

I for one have my research agent on this and one other ship (mining bonus command). He promises a breakthrough is just around the corner, if only I bring him some more trit... 
Range bonus on standard tractors and salvage chance increase would be nice, but with the volume changes (heck the volume of some rooms in missions before the change) more cargo room is needed.
Cap of a destroyer works fine with a cap battery. I don't know if that's more or less than standard indy. I also think 2 mids and lows would be better, and not make this ship too overpowered for other roles.
My preference would be to alter the destroyer class to another version, double the cargo room, and change the bonus from weapons to salvaging. Maybe change the models to look bulkier, or close in the gaps for instance on the Cormorant to "imply" the additional cargo space. At most 2 weapons for self defense along the lines of the existing destroyer, no drones unless the existing DD has them. Mid and low slots at least 2 or whatever the original version had. High slots to 8 if they weren't there already. It's my preference because it should be an alteration of the existing ships used for the purpose, an evolution of designs, rather than another ORE creation (that the other factions don't copy for some strange reason).

what about just like a doomsday-like device that a BS can equip that salvages everything on the grid. Hell while you are at it, you might as well have it loot the stuff out of the wrecks and magically transport the loot to your home station. That way, you only have to hit one key to clean up missions so you can move on to the next one to farm.

Heres a shocker, A destroyer, a jetcan, and a Badger MK1 work better then any "Salvage ship" Ive seen out there. We dont need a specialized ship for a mini-profession! What we need are players willing to micro-manage instead of flying their CaldNavy Raven (NPC)Pwnmobiles.

I was thinking about something like this as well, but the ship itself would need some sort of penalty to using mining lasers. There is also no reason for it to be slow. I was thinking a high cargo, decent speed cruiser with 6+ highs, no turret/missile hardpoints, no drones, bonuses to tractors/salvagers, and a penalty to using mining lasers. |

Maybe something like an offshoot of a destoryer would be neat, but it would need enough mids to have both an ab and a hacking unit.
