Especially with the new module volumes, I am sure that I am not the only one that would like a dedicated salvage platform that would be able to handle 5k-10k worth of stuff, plenty of high slots (2 turrets and 4-6 more for tractor beams), 3 rig slots, and have a marauder-like bonus to tractor beam range. Anything else that I missed? Maybe working salvage drones/skills that can go out beyond the tractor beam range? Any salvager who doesn't like the idea? Currently, my Exequror is the best ship I have used for salvaging. The 1/3 ratio for salvagers/tractors is sufficient with level 4 skill and 3 salvage rigs, but doubling that would be nice for throughput gains. The volume of the hold with level 3 skill and 3x expanders was much better than a destroyer, but still not able to handle all the loot from every level 4 mission. I haven't used it yet for a Trinity missions, but it is obvious that the hold capacity has degraded relative to the new loot volumes.
As for more expensive ships that I haven't used yet, I think that the Hurricane fits out the best for salvage with 8 highs and about 2500 cargo volume with max expander 2s. Post Trinity, I doubt that I will train for something that now has deficient cargo volume.
Any solutions CCP? It isn't too bad to salvage everything and fill up a towed jet can, then come back with my Iteron to scoop the can, but a cheap new ship, esp with the tractor range bonuses would be a nice nut to throw toward the blind squirrels.
It would essentially be a nice shiny new industrial (T1) or transport variation (T2) with more high slots and tractor beam range bonus. Would this imbalance any non-salvage use of industrial/transports that I have overlooked?

the 5-10 times bigger volumes for un-named t1 items is a BIG problem for looting/salvaging missions atm.
My myrmidon with 6 expanded cargo hold II's was able to salvage& looot every L4 mission before with it's 1700m3 cargohold, the only thing that required more trips was Angel Extravaganza if I wanted to take the torps from the bonus with me, everything else would fit in it, except for the ammo from the battlestation.
But now, with the changes, the myrmidon's cargohold fills up from like 2 pockets of the mission, so I need a whole lot more trips now, salvaging with a battlecruiser in L4 missions now is like salvaging L4 missions with destroyers pre-trin

Edited by: Steph Wing on 07/12/2007 22:41:37 CCP seriously went overkill trying to offset mineral compression. A remote sensor booster has a volume of 100m3. 100! That's half the size of a Thorax's cargo bay!

when you want to fit something like cruiser, you will have to fly around with the cruiser collecting & fitting the items (if you're using standard tech1, like ppl when they first move to cruisers), or fly around in industrial ship to collect the modules

Sure, and spent 30 minutes doing it... Pls, think before you write something like this. Modules weight is now hell... and very bad joke.. 100m3 for modules worth 100k
I vote YES for salvaging ship.
