Edited by: Silverlancer on 10/03/2004 22:06:31 We need something that will create more of an exploring aspect to EVE: JUMP HOLES!
The first type of jump hole would be the known space - > known space jump hole. They would jump to a random point in the known part of the galaxy. These would be common, one in every 10 systems on average. However, they would not appear in systems with stations (RP reason: station reactors produce gravitons that disrupt jump holes before they can form). Now, each jump hole would be a different size, some would only fit frigates, others will even fit titans. Second of all, jump holes would not be "phase aligned" all the time--you can't count on one being available. Third of all, they randomley disappear and appear, some lasting a day, some lasting a month--you never know.
The second type of jump hole would be MUCH rarer. Maybe 1 in 500 systems--sort of like a cosmic gold mine. This would send you to a system that hasn't been explored yet (maybe one of the cut-off jovian systems? although CCP would have to dump the gates there)--no rats (as the pirates haven't explored it either), and TONS of juicy minerals. However--it is just as unstable as the previous kind! Now to avoid getting stuck in the system, a special type of jump drive would be required before entering one of these types of holes (it wouldn't be as versatile as a real one and wouldn't require the skill, to be fair). It would simply jump the user back to the other side of the jump hole when activated--even if the jump hole disappears. This would hurt the can miners... they fill up 50 cans of arkanon only to find the jump hole disappeared before they could bring in the indies
What do you think? This would make exploring truly profitable in EVE. And some of the jump holes could be marked as STABLE (although VERY VERY few). So a freelancer, finding one, could sell its location for billions! The ultimate find in EVE would be a stable unknown space jump hole... mmm 50 billion worth of minerals , but so rare that there would only be one or two created every month.
The reason why this would be balanced is because jump holes would be RARE. For the first type of jump hole, 1 in 10 systems would have one, but many would go to useless locations, many more would be out of phase, and still more would be completely unstable. So Curse isn't going to be finding a jump hole into the middle of Stain just yet.

Please, CCP! This would give EVE an exploring aspect that it really hasn't had in a while--it would be the first MMORPG ever to give the player a feel that he's actually exploring something, not what others have done 100000 times before...

different sizes in jump holes?
so not only do you have to find one that fits you but you won't know where in "known space" you will come out at the other end
i'de rather do 20 jumps in my slow industrial then take a jumphole and not know where i would end up possibly putting me further off my route
but seeing as you developed this idea for the true explorers i bet they would love it
everyone loves a lotery with big cash prizes hehehe

I'd agree, im not much of an explorer myself.
That would bring the exploering aspect of the game back that some people wanted months ago. Would make it intresting finding one and actaully say going to the system and mining it out or what ever the chance maybe.
Good idea. Fear The Bunny

Well you can always go back through the jump hole, thats the thing. Unless it disappears, which is really unlikely (Although if you wait a few days it might happen )
