It's fun, but not worth paying for imo.
Did they change the XP tables or something? I played about 18 months ago, fairly regularly, for three solid months. Just to get a Q. Then they nerfed Brit armour. I think I had just gotten into an Atlanta, but not gotten it nicely kitted, when I quit. ----- TANSTAAFL

Everquest 2, nice graphics, lots of players, a recent expansion. WoW, too cartoonish for me but lots of players. Vanguard, nice graphics but not enough different armor and weapons to make it matter. The environment looks good though. Not many people playing. Star Wars Galaxies, graphics mediocre, not many players, but an ok diversion for die hard sci fi fans. Doesn't take long to level up a character. Ground based fighting and optional flight combat. Simplified gameplay. Tabula Rasa looks interesting but haven't tried it. EVE is pretty tough to beat as far as complexity and graphics, as long as you don't mind looking at space most of the time.

Edited by: me bored on 09/12/2007 04:04:08 Warhammer online is looking good. Say what you will about the nerdy tabletop but the setting is amazing. I know some people who are in the beta and from what I've heard it's a fairly cut throat pvp centric game and not just another wow clone.

Is there? Do you know what everybody else was doing when the forumites were whining over boot.ini? Playing EVE.
It's an honest question, though. Would any corporation that's running a MMO admit to losing subs? I know WoW's taken several sub hits over its life cycle, and Blizzard swears up and down that the sub number is constantly increasing.
Over time, it is. There are of course ups and downs on that graph, but on average, it's growing. They've 9mil subs atm, some months ago it was 8.
But that's counting everyone who has ever played it at an internet cafe in China or Korea, since those accounts never expire. The NA subscription numbers tapered before Burning Crusade, tanked somewhere around 2.1ish, and have been somewhat flat since. Of course, that's not the picture Blizzard's painting.
Oh, and back on topic: definitely Warhammer Online. From the last podcast / posts from beta testers, it seems that Mythic was worried they were going to make it too much like DAoC. Testers weren't entirely happy with what they presented, so they responded by making it more like DAoC, which is a really, really good thing.

Leaving for good, cancelling my subscription? No, I do have the 15 bux to burn each month just to keep skilling for when it hits me again to play Eve. All I know to say is that it's a love/hate relationship. I play Eve in spurts basically, in annual intervals more or less. No other mmo interests me in the slightest (Warhammer Online pending as I am a huge warhammer fantasy/40k fan), and in fact, there are a bunch of single player/non mmo online games which I like better than Eve.
Yet I quit for good (or so I thought), gave stuff away, stopped skilling etc in the past and so far it has always come back to haunt me the next time I felt the itch again. On the other hand .. playing Eve like I used to play it back in 2003 and 2004 (like a nutcase, if you must know) is the most unlikely thing to happen to me, simply because of the 'Been there, done that' factor. New ships and whatever else don't particularly thrill me either, and right now I am again in a phase (not related to bugs..) that not even Trinity can get me to play. __________

Eve is prolly the last/only MMO I will play. Don't have time to waste months grinding a character in a video game.
The Trinity patch was essentially a botch job. Pretty much everything about it is bugged, from corp emails, to mining lasers, to widescreen graphics, to POS guns.
The concept of Eve is of course wonderful.
I just do not feel that CCP has the technical know-how to pull it off. In the past 3 years every iteration of the client has gotten worse, with more bugs, more lag, a crappier UI, a crappier ship's computer voice, and so forth.
This is just not a polished product.

a small advice: learn how to read there are just as in eve skill books only here you have to actually make the effort to read them yourself and they are not always perfectly clear in their meaning so sometimes one has to read between the lines
I've had an account there for 22 years. It's /almost/ like you say. The graphics are fantastic and there's no lag at all! Lots of people always online so there's never a problem with finding a good party.
There are few things that should be noted that aren't on their website:
(0) While the game is basically free-to-play this is only true for the first 18 years. After that, there's a sort of a hidden subscription fee called 'tax'; (1) PvP is true hardcore - non-consensual and once your char is dead there's no coming back (i.e. perma-death); (2) Economy is a mess; (3) IG politics are seriously screwed up as can be seen on their 'Newspaper' message-boards; (4) Interface can sometimes be very non-intuitive, the 'sex' feature is an excellent example of that; (5) You can only have one character per account;

One of the best mmorpg's out there its only been out for a year and has come a long way, it is the most stunning mmorpg the in terms of graphics and the sheer size of the world. Evey zone is connected in real time with no loading screens so you dont feel boxed in, it has flying mounts where u can fly absolutly anwhere. Raid content is going in soon. It really is a stunning game and very underated and unknown which is a shame, it had one of the biggest budgets of any mmorpg in its design stage and you will see this in its visuals. level cap is 50 and there is lots to do and see.
Flying mounts are awsome and you can sail your own boat are 2 of my favorite features, its classes are excellent to. One thing you need a good sytem to get the most from this game its gfx are awesom on max settings.
Not played it in 4 months for reason ive not had much cash to spare for the subs, but this will change soon and I can go back. Thats what I love about EVE I can keep skill training those boring learning skills while I play another game

Not true I have a few characters, but you need to get the skill Schizophrenia to have more than 1 though. I'd like a real sig feel free to share ideas on one. |

Oh I was hooked. It might have been two months, but I'd gotton into a Q in a couple of days for sure. I don't know whether they nerfed Brit armour before or after I played though, but I remember it being fairly good (I used it all the time) I quit completely the second the Pay-to-play thing hit, if that's anything to go by -----

Just as a point of note. I'm waiting on, and have been following Pirates of the Burning Sea. It won't replace Eve, but will be something I play alongside Eve.
However, one thing that amused me, reading the forums, and forums of other games is that Eve players seem to have something of an 'odd' reputation in the greater gaming community.
The General feeling is that we are all much too snobbish, constantly looking down at other games as being just 'toys' and not a real mans game. Oh and not forgetting the sado-masichistic tendancies we all have

I was going to get POTBS, then I learned it was XP level based. *Turns up nose*
Don't worry about the lesser gaming community... eventually most of them will grow up

on the Elite forums too. It makes me sad that E4 is probably going to be a happy/cuddly place where there's no loss on death and/or you can't shoot people without consent... or just not an MMO at all... or ever even released -----
