"My Little Pony Online" ? "Hello Kitty Online" ?
About 1 in 50 (or something like that) of players claiming to leave actually do. If they still care enough to post about it, chances are they'll stay.
The amount of "I'll Leave" posts are no higher for Trinity than they've been for other expansions....

I always believe its not what you say but how you say it that makes all the difference, and if you can read as well as you write, I may be back, just wanted to ask the question... free speech and all that
And the Maple thing is actually fun too, not sure if you think I am not allowed to post, or play somewhere else for a while, whilst CCP ignore our pleadings further lol.

Check it out yourself.... Most of the people threatening to quit over Trinity also threatened to quit over the previous expansion if they were here then.... If people care enough about the game to post an "I'm quitting" post, they'll generally not leave, or they might take a few weeks off and then come back. Has been that way for years!

It's an honest question, though. Would any corporation that's running a MMO admit to losing subs? I know WoW's taken several sub hits over its life cycle, and Blizzard swears up and down that the sub number is constantly increasing.

If people care enough about the game to post an "I'm quitting" post, they'll generally not leave, or they might take a few weeks off and then come back. Has been that way for years! Check the people threatening to quit over the missile nerf 3+ years ago... Quite a few of them are still around....
Also, if a single small nerf causes a player to leave, chances are that he would have left anyway. What causes players to leave is not dissatisfaction with a specific nerf, it's that they'd grown tired of the game.
+ 1
Quote: The average 'age' of a player in EVE when they leave is 7 months, so players leaving is a perfectly natural occurrence and not a great disaster.
-1 player leave eve , because the skills train time is too long, and ccp input all stupid nerf ,is me opinion.
remember year ago ;) the first nerf to first patch and massive old player leave for this reason.
me first charactere on eve is 2003, and a have before 4 account, now i have only one account to play eve just for see the game progresse.

I doubt "a lot" of players are leaving. The one or two idiots that formatted their PC's to fix a problem with a 1kb text file that a google seach or a windows CD gives you the solution to maybe. Funny thing is its always "I might" cancel my subscription. Either do it, or don't, dont ***** about here on the boards as some sort of lame threat to CCP (you are one of tens maybe hundfreds of thousands of their customers). And why the **** are you asking here as opposed to the million other gaming forums on the net? Could it be all the attention you could draw maybe? Or maybe a vain hope CCP will write you a weepy letter OMG NO PLEASE DONT LEAVE US WAAAA!
Please, **** off and leave in peace. No one could give any less of a toss.

Yeh I got accepted for it but turned it down.
People who say they're leaving rarely do.
The average player only plays for 7 months.
...and why would you care about CCP publishing player leak figures if you're leaving? So you can look back and tell people 'I told you so' who are still playing but don't care because you already left once.
So play or disappear already.
EDIT : Oh yeh and this is the wrong forum should be in out of pod.

IMHO a fair question for general discussion?
Those anal enough or who lack the maturity to deal with a simple question should in all honesty (STFU!) ummh! trawl some other thread, whilst statistics show that 99.677% cant keep their freakin mouths shut until dad slaps them.
It may be that like minded players have a suitable distraction whilst the Devs dev, I heard the player base here was a little older that @ my little pony

Technically, POtBS isn't an open beta as you need to be a Fileplanet subscriber to download the beta
Subscribing to fileplanet is 10000000* times worse than playing Eve in its current terribly buggy state.

Progress Quest is a relatively straightforward MMORPG. It has an intuitive interface and a new player can easily get right into the action.
It's a bit like Eve in that active old players will always have an advantage over new players, but someone who is active for 8 hours a day will skill up more quickly than someone active for only 4 hours a day.
Features nonconsensual PVP, but you only lose 1 item, so it's not as harsh as Eve.
You can form guilds if you like, but this doesn't affect gameplay.

No because there are already discussions in there about other mmorpgs. This looks like a camoflaged whine to me.
To be honest when I take a break I play Guild Wars. OK its not that great but its free and you can pick it up and down at will. You don't have to invest loads of time into it.
For those that are leaving for good I find mmorpg.com fairly good for reviewing other games.

Navyfield is nothing like eve in anyway, it's super buggy (White screen of death from day 1 still) can do next to nothing in it.
Just sold two of my uk supports from it ;)

in all honesty...if you do end up leaving...make sure to train up a skill that will take a long time....like battleship 5, you will never know when you will want to give eve another try.
but anyways...a few games i know of....darkspace if you want to try something similar to how eve is but older. but if not then just search a site like mmorpg.com for various games. FROG! |

It depends what you play EVE for really...
I like the gank or be ganked, territory control, death penalty, free for all pvp, user defined end game stuff.
I can't find another MMO that provides that while being less buggy/laggy and more balanced/fun. (also eve looks sexy now ;))
So I still play EVE

for me it is not the balance/alterations but the fact that it is uber laggy at any place you warp to where there is a lot of people, so bad that it is very hard to play it. the fact that it randomly crashes (which have cost me over 1,5 billions, which kind of takes my lust away from the game, since for me it took a long time to make to get removed because of game crash problems).' the clone implant loss, which we will get back in ... ehh this year ?! maybe/maybe not?! which result in either buy new one wasted yet another 500mill or do with less sp per hour and spend less isk, OR do with A LOT less sp per hour.
their impolite way of going around this (i haven't seen a dev blog/tread/post stating anything about anything (except the ini file, but duhh they where FORCED to do that, since that was a **** up you don't want to ignore, no i don't think we should boil them for that) and as always i will bet my ass that we will get no compensation for anything and anything lost due to the patch fault but lost to by the hands of other players will not be given back, (except maybe pos's but not even sure here :S )... i find that behavior very impolite, and just ignoring your community not replaying and stating what, when, why, how, etc etc, is just getting on my nerves since it is a very important thing and it have effected a lot of players...
all in all i think that the expansion have only made the time less enjoyable then it was before the expansion. so that is what i don't like about it. personally i think they should make a rollback of hte server (which would fix all the "reimburse" petitions and all the problem with that, then fix up the pos bugs, and worst crash problem and then put it back online, give people 5 days of free time for that inconvinient or 100k sp in skill of choice (for the lost days) whatever works for them.. )

Seriously, though, NavyField is like EVE in WWII, only with less economy.
I played that for a month or so before they made it pay-to-play (which is when I quit). I had a Heavy Cruiser by then, but still preffered my Sirius since I could put silly amounts of Armour on it.
It's fun, but not worth paying for imo. -----

NF is free again, but now they have "premium items/ships" and a premium subscription for more exp... I've meant to go back to playing it for a while but/ I'd like a real sig feel free to share ideas on one. |

It was still free, but you couldn't use any crewmembers over level 30 without subscribing, which put all of mine out of the picture.
Has that changed? -----

Did they change the XP tables or something? I played about 18 months ago, fairly regularly, for three solid months. Just to get a Q. Then they nerfed Brit armour. I think I had just gotten into an Atlanta, but not gotten it nicely kitted, when I quit. ----- TANSTAAFL

Everquest 2, nice graphics, lots of players, a recent expansion. WoW, too cartoonish for me but lots of players. Vanguard, nice graphics but not enough different armor and weapons to make it matter. The environment looks good though. Not many people playing. Star Wars Galaxies, graphics mediocre, not many players, but an ok diversion for die hard sci fi fans. Doesn't take long to level up a character. Ground based fighting and optional flight combat. Simplified gameplay. Tabula Rasa looks interesting but haven't tried it. EVE is pretty tough to beat as far as complexity and graphics, as long as you don't mind looking at space most of the time.

Edited by: me bored on 09/12/2007 04:04:08 Warhammer online is looking good. Say what you will about the nerdy tabletop but the setting is amazing. I know some people who are in the beta and from what I've heard it's a fairly cut throat pvp centric game and not just another wow clone.

Is there? Do you know what everybody else was doing when the forumites were whining over boot.ini? Playing EVE.
It's an honest question, though. Would any corporation that's running a MMO admit to losing subs? I know WoW's taken several sub hits over its life cycle, and Blizzard swears up and down that the sub number is constantly increasing.
Over time, it is. There are of course ups and downs on that graph, but on average, it's growing. They've 9mil subs atm, some months ago it was 8.
But that's counting everyone who has ever played it at an internet cafe in China or Korea, since those accounts never expire. The NA subscription numbers tapered before Burning Crusade, tanked somewhere around 2.1ish, and have been somewhat flat since. Of course, that's not the picture Blizzard's painting.
Oh, and back on topic: definitely Warhammer Online. From the last podcast / posts from beta testers, it seems that Mythic was worried they were going to make it too much like DAoC. Testers weren't entirely happy with what they presented, so they responded by making it more like DAoC, which is a really, really good thing.

Leaving for good, cancelling my subscription? No, I do have the 15 bux to burn each month just to keep skilling for when it hits me again to play Eve. All I know to say is that it's a love/hate relationship. I play Eve in spurts basically, in annual intervals more or less. No other mmo interests me in the slightest (Warhammer Online pending as I am a huge warhammer fantasy/40k fan), and in fact, there are a bunch of single player/non mmo online games which I like better than Eve.
Yet I quit for good (or so I thought), gave stuff away, stopped skilling etc in the past and so far it has always come back to haunt me the next time I felt the itch again. On the other hand .. playing Eve like I used to play it back in 2003 and 2004 (like a nutcase, if you must know) is the most unlikely thing to happen to me, simply because of the 'Been there, done that' factor. New ships and whatever else don't particularly thrill me either, and right now I am again in a phase (not related to bugs..) that not even Trinity can get me to play. __________

Eve is prolly the last/only MMO I will play. Don't have time to waste months grinding a character in a video game.
The Trinity patch was essentially a botch job. Pretty much everything about it is bugged, from corp emails, to mining lasers, to widescreen graphics, to POS guns.
The concept of Eve is of course wonderful.
I just do not feel that CCP has the technical know-how to pull it off. In the past 3 years every iteration of the client has gotten worse, with more bugs, more lag, a crappier UI, a crappier ship's computer voice, and so forth.
This is just not a polished product.

a small advice: learn how to read there are just as in eve skill books only here you have to actually make the effort to read them yourself and they are not always perfectly clear in their meaning so sometimes one has to read between the lines
I've had an account there for 22 years. It's /almost/ like you say. The graphics are fantastic and there's no lag at all! Lots of people always online so there's never a problem with finding a good party.
There are few things that should be noted that aren't on their website:
(0) While the game is basically free-to-play this is only true for the first 18 years. After that, there's a sort of a hidden subscription fee called 'tax'; (1) PvP is true hardcore - non-consensual and once your char is dead there's no coming back (i.e. perma-death); (2) Economy is a mess; (3) IG politics are seriously screwed up as can be seen on their 'Newspaper' message-boards; (4) Interface can sometimes be very non-intuitive, the 'sex' feature is an excellent example of that; (5) You can only have one character per account;

One of the best mmorpg's out there its only been out for a year and has come a long way, it is the most stunning mmorpg the in terms of graphics and the sheer size of the world. Evey zone is connected in real time with no loading screens so you dont feel boxed in, it has flying mounts where u can fly absolutly anwhere. Raid content is going in soon. It really is a stunning game and very underated and unknown which is a shame, it had one of the biggest budgets of any mmorpg in its design stage and you will see this in its visuals. level cap is 50 and there is lots to do and see.
Flying mounts are awsome and you can sail your own boat are 2 of my favorite features, its classes are excellent to. One thing you need a good sytem to get the most from this game its gfx are awesom on max settings.
Not played it in 4 months for reason ive not had much cash to spare for the subs, but this will change soon and I can go back. Thats what I love about EVE I can keep skill training those boring learning skills while I play another game

Oh I was hooked. It might have been two months, but I'd gotton into a Q in a couple of days for sure. I don't know whether they nerfed Brit armour before or after I played though, but I remember it being fairly good (I used it all the time) I quit completely the second the Pay-to-play thing hit, if that's anything to go by -----

Just as a point of note. I'm waiting on, and have been following Pirates of the Burning Sea. It won't replace Eve, but will be something I play alongside Eve.
However, one thing that amused me, reading the forums, and forums of other games is that Eve players seem to have something of an 'odd' reputation in the greater gaming community.
The General feeling is that we are all much too snobbish, constantly looking down at other games as being just 'toys' and not a real mans game. Oh and not forgetting the sado-masichistic tendancies we all have

I was going to get POTBS, then I learned it was XP level based. *Turns up nose*
Don't worry about the lesser gaming community... eventually most of them will grow up

on the Elite forums too. It makes me sad that E4 is probably going to be a happy/cuddly place where there's no loss on death and/or you can't shoot people without consent... or just not an MMO at all... or ever even released -----
