It is normal for the temperature to rise while the GPU is being worked :). And the new Premium content does tax the gfx card quite a bit.
However . . . I had quite a few problems recently, that I believe I managed to solve.
First of all, the temperature does rise pretty fast to around 90+ degrees Celsius, while INSIDE the station or just outside it. No such temps while in missions, pvp, gates etc - lots of models, full graphic effects - temp. is stable around 70-75. But near/in the station . . .OMG.
Since the thermal shutdown threashold of my graphic chip is somewhere aorund 127 Celsius, I`m not that worried by the high temeperatures. This process does happen in any modern 3D game you play - just launch the app. that suits your gfx card - or Ati Tool regardless of manufacturer - and log the temperatures. Check the log file after, you will see the increases in any game, EVE included.
But, as I said, I experienced some problems - one system shutdown 2-3 days ago that I attributed to a freak occurence and not hight temperatures , since I`ve been unable to reproduce it so far. And believe me, I tried and stressed the card to it`s max. So no HW problems on my end. The thing that drove me nuts was that EVE just froze on random times - i.e. 2 minutes after launch, or 30 minutes etc.
I remembered that I modified one graphic setting in EVE - color depth to 24 bits w. 8 bit alpha - but only after extensive testing - temperatures , ATitool + 3d mark running at the same time (and at a snail pace as you can imagine, they are murder for any system) and so on.
Lo and behold, as soon as I changed the color depth to 24 bits (no 8 bit alpha) I had no more problems. The temp still is high, but no more random freezez. Might be a freak misunderstanding with the new nVidia Forceware drivers, I dunno , didn`t try to revert to older dirvers and test the 24 bit w.8 bit alpha on/off to see. I was just too happy that I could play.
Might help somebody, just try it.
P.S. - sys specs - C2D6400, 2 Gb Ram, Asus 7950GT, latest nVidia drivers (19.12.2007)
