Catalyst 4.5 Release Notes
Quote: Launching EVE Online under Windows XP with an ATI RADEONÖ 8500, 9100, or 9200 series results in a VPU recover error before the terms and conditions is displayed. This issue will be resolved in an upcoming CATALYSTÖ release

Ok, so just to be 100% clear. Since ATI only singles out problems with those certain boards under Catalyst 4.5.....does that DEFINATELY mean that Radeon 9000, 9500, 9800 cards WILL now work correctly under 4.5? It'd be typical of ATI to just forget to mention that the VPU problem is relavent still for those other cards as well even with 4.5. I'd much appreciate if anyone can report on Radeon 9000 or 9500 under Catalyst 4.5. ;-) Cheers!

So it seems that we are going to have a fix on this VPU matter in Catalyst 4.6 or higher.

Ok....so I went ahead and tried the new Catalyst 4.5 driver with my Radeon 9000 Pro.....and they're still screwed. So thanks very much to ATI who made it appear it was supposed to work on 9000 by listing specific OTHER cards they knew had problems but ignoring several models!

Catylist 4.6 is out now - but the release notes say there is still a problem launching Eve. Thanks for not fixing it ATI!

Driver issues.... for me it seems that eve got a problem with the every singel Driver ATI released since the 3.9 version, i have tryed every singel Driver since, but every singel ended up in a Crash booom bang, with eve hanging at splashscrean, resolving with my screans Flickering and blinking vildly (like windows is detecting them again) and shortly a BSOD (Bluescrean of Death)
note that im running a redoen 9000 Pro, with 2 screans attatched, and userly running EVE in Windoved mode...

I was skimming over this, and I thought you guys would be interested with this:
http://www.omegacorner.com/
They're custom drivers for just about every Catalyst release (including Nvidia cards, which have nothing to do with Catalyst drivers! )
Also, check out:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/far_cry_tweak.txt
(Ripped off of gamefaqs. An excellent source for codes, guides cheats, etc, etc) Thats a tweaking guide. Its originally for Far Cry, but should make nealy any game fly. (Check out DrLucky's (the author of the guide) specs and what he can get )
Thank you DrLucky for writing such a guide.
Good Luck all!

8500/9100/9200 should work with Catalyst 4.7, at least according to the driver release notes.

Ok, yay! Catalyst 4.7 is finally working for me. Migration to it didn't go smoothly though. Install ran fine, reboot came, then all hell broke loose. I had to reboot again and eventually got the pre-windows message screen that allows you to boot using "last known good settings". I did that and at last all worked perfect and the new 4.7 drivers are running. Eve launched and all appears fine. Note I'm actually using the softmod version of 4.7 to turn a Radeon 9500 into a 9700.
