Hi all new to this so bare with me.
My rig: AMD 64 X2Dual core 4600+ 2.41GHz 1GB Corsair DDR2 400 RAM 250GB Seagate SATA HD Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 256MB PCIe Windows XP SP2
I have been running 2 accounts for some time now on the rig above and have had no problems with it at all.
Since the trinity upgrade however i simply cannot run the 2 accounts together with the premium graphics. (though they run smoother than ever together with the 'classics' set)
I know the first port of call is to up the ram to 2GB but i'm doubtful that this will solve the problem.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a course of action for upgrading my rig to support 2 accounts. (so far i have been unable to find anyone that is comfortably running 2 simultaneous accounts)
Please tell me theres a way.
Thanks

You can always install another client, so you have one with the premium graphics and one with the classics. I dunno why you cannot run 2xPremium graphics, perhaps because of the video card?

Any suggestions on a Gcard that would support 2? from the little i've been able to find on here nobody seems to have had any success in running 2 premies together.
i have no idea how i would install a second 'classics' client without overriding the premium one :(

I would suggest asking in the Windows forum, there are quite a few questions along these lines there, your question might even be answered already. --

Well I have the following comp:
Core 2 Duo E6430 overclocked to 3.6Ghz 4GB PC8500 RAM 8800GT 512MB XFX 150GB Raptor Vista Home Premium 32bit
I can run a single client no problems with AA and everything on high, but 2 clients and they both run like dogs, eventually crashing and closing down.
Had a few crashes actually even with a single client running. HHmm
Latest nvidia drivers too.

when will people realize eve is not longer a little 150mb ram using application that you can have 4 copies running, eve will now take everything your comp has (usually)... give it 2-3 years and you can run multiple clients smooth again

Runs two premium clients at 1600x1200 with shadows on normal, HDR turned off, with playable framerates when sitting outside a trade hub. I've had the two clients open for hours with no problems.
I have noticed that you get punished for resolution much more with this client, dropping the res just a bit can make a big difference. My machine can't really do higher than 1600x1200 on the premium graphics, whereas it can go as high as my monitor well let it with the classic. -

My PC spazzes out if I try and run 2 premium clients. Locked up so bad I have to switch it off at the power socket, and made this god-awful noise. First time I rebooted, my motherboard gave the "no video card detected" error noise.... but when I rebooted again everything was fine.
I'll stick to Standard.

thanks for the response guys. by the looks i need to : (a) up the ram to min 2gb. (is it worth going up to 4gb?) (b) stronger gpu (looking at the sapphire x1950pro 512mb, good/bad?) (c) run my primary account with premium and my alt on classics. (how do i do this? when i uncheck classics while running the 1 in premium it shuts it down and restarts it. so i've either had both in classics or 2 premium slideshows)

(a) WinXP 32bit 2-3gb will do fine as you can't really use more then 3gb on a 32bit OS, if you plan to change to Vista64 go with 4gb. (b) I prefer Nvidia myself, better Linux support (might change for ATI soonish(tm)) perhaps look into the new 8800GT series which is a lot of GPU power for the $$ spent.

this is a good set up:
Asus extreem MOBO nVidia SLi 7900GTX or just 1 x 7900GTX better still use the great card nVidia 8800 GT (new out)not the GTX version. great price and low power. SATA 2 and a min of 2 gig (GO) DDR2 800,s
If you wish to economize on that just upgrade (costing 180-250 dollars) to the nVIDIA 8800GT. of course a new CPU would help if you existing CPU is nearing its mark <cntl alt del> if so change the CPU to the fantastic (intel)Q6600 I say fantastic because of its price of 180 Dollars (after the 40% price drop)
The new ishh Q6700 is also great but is double the cost. The QX 6600 and Q6700 are basically the Q range, the QX6600 is 11% faster than the Q6600 but is conciderably more expensive. The comparrisons to use in this are the older E6600 and E6700 dual core . Its a fact that dual core is faster (just) than its Quad sisters BUT the market and the trend is moving more to Quad and away from dual. In the sinario of games a Dual core is probably the best apart from Supreme Commander that is. but if you are running more than just one game or other functions then the Quad cores out shine the dual. The benchmarks of the extreme versions to the basics CPU like the Q compared to the QX in my experience are nominal and if your willing to spend almost double then OK but that doesnt mean they are a wise choice.
so to recap. if you wish to play 2 / 3 or even 4 accounts in eve or you have other jobs like 3D work or CGA work then a good basic answer would be (inexpensive) 1 x nVidia 8800GT 1 x Q6600 just those 2 items will allow you to use 2/3 acounts
(a little more cost) would get you 2(or 1) x (SLi) 7900 GT/x 1 x Q6700
and if your plain out right crazy wealthy
1 (or) 2 x nVIDIA 8800 Ultra (2 in Sli) 1 x QX 6850 2 gig DDR2 H/D SATA 2 Mobo one of the 2 extremes (ASUS) (remebering if you upgrade to the 8800 ultra nVidia you will need to upgrade the PSU if Sli 1000w if not min is 750 (advisable) Also look at the heat in the QX range as you may then need a Ninja or some sort of internal cooling.

one last point ref: the CPU the older E6600 was and is a great CPU better in many cases to its sister the E6700 The reasons are simple. the E6600 comes out at 2.4 and the E6700 I belive is 2.9 but the E6600 is very easy to overclock and to get 3.5 isnt a problem. Whereas the E6700 is what it is 2.9 so if you cant O/c CPU,s the E6700 is better but if you can then the E6600 is.( these are both Dual cores)

cool thanks for all your advice guys.
could someone tell me how exactly i can get 1 client to run as premium and 1 as classic?
so far every attempt i've had at doing this has ended with the client having to restart to initiate changes. when this happens it closes both characters not just the one i was altering and restarts them both with the changes.
so please could someone give me a step by step of how to get 2 working with 1 on premium and 1classic.
thanks

Your system has two issues that are going to make it hard for you to run dual clients.
1. Your RAM, its a little low for running two games at the same time, get it up to 2gigs, easy upgrade, and it will improve your overall system alot.
2. Your video card. If your a serious gamer you need to learn how ATI and NVidia rate their cards for power. The first digit (6XXX, 7XXX, 8XXX) refers to the family and the feature set, not directly to power or speed. The second digit is a better judge of power, with the X2XX-X4XX cards being the low end budget for grandma cards, X5XX-X7XX being the price to performance niche, good if your monitor doesn't run at super high res, and the X8XX-X9XX being the creame of the crop and generally overpriced at times.
For people that think a 8400 will beat all the previous versions, be prepared to get your FPS handed to you by a few year old 6800GTS.
So your 7300 is a huge bottle neck at the moment, I would suggest an upgrade to a 8800GT, they are new, but come in at around $250, and generally stomp all but the highest end cards at the moment. If you have to go lower, I would suggest trying to stay above $150 for a decent gaming video card, otherwise your in the budget card land, and no one wants to be there.
Hope this helps.

Edited by: Warcaster on 27/12/2007 14:48:46 Sorry for the double post but i thought this was worth mentioning in a fresh post for all the other noobs out there that found it hard to find a straight answer to this problem.
First of all thankyou to all those that gave advise, helpful or otherwise. its always good to have an active oog community.
anyway I am now running 2 premium clients with no glitches, no crashes and not a huge drop in performance. Here is the new set up that will run 2 premium accounts simultaneously.
AMD 64 X2Dual core 4600+ 2.41GHz 3GB Corsair DDR2 800 RAM 250GB Seagate SATA HD MSI Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB PCIe Windows XP SP2
Software: all latest drivers 2 installations of EVE client(this was something that was never answered when i asked about it so i will quickly state it here, it really was simple) Go to the directory where you have installed EVE premium(default it is c:/program files/ccp/eve) copy the entire eve folder and paste the copy where ever you like (i pasted it back into the ccp folder and renamed it 'eve 2') go into the new folder and find the 'eve.exe' right click it and select send to... desktop (this will create a new shortcut on the desktop to this exe) and there you have it. you can run 1 account from the 1 shortcut and the 2nd from the other.
I did try running them both of the 1 client with the new hardware but it just bombed out the performance (i was getting 5-10fps, shocking) looks like the only way to run more than 1 account smoothly in premium is to have more than 1 client.
i hope that helps anyone thats looking for the same answer as me.

Edited by: Arte on 27/12/2007 16:08:29 For a frame of reference I thought I'd add my two cents (isk.. whatever). I was, until this morning, running:
Athlon 64 3500+ 1GB pc2 4200 RAM. Nvidia 6150 le (on board graphics)
and could expect, in station, about 30-40fps at best, with 1 or 20-30fps with 2 characters running off of the same client.
Thanks to Santa's good will (the in-laws actually) I got a tiny amount of cash and bought a Geforce 8400. Nice and cheap but a definite improvement over the on-board graphics.
With classic mode (on board graphics couldn't handle premium in reality although on paper it could) I shot up to 70fps in station and a comfortable 50-60fps in the belts. Didn't try with both characters.
I upgraded to premium and my fps has dropped to 20-30fps again, but with both characters running. There is a choke when I do hi-load things like exiting stations and jumping into other systems but as I'm used to low fps, I am enjoying the beauty of premium content quite a lot at the moment. (I wonder how long that will last). I am not doing pvp at the moment so I'll take it for what it is.
I have yet to try with two clients (only just done a complete reinstall of the OS) but by the time I get round to that, I will have received and installed an extra 2gig of RAM.
If this thread continues, I'll try and post how much of an improvement it affords me.

Anyway, back to topic... I have tried to play on two accounts where there is 2 installs (2 different harddisks) and have problems playing with premium graphics... then again I play also EVE without sound so I don't lag out too much in normal mode also.

The premium graphics is extra, imo. I quickly downgraded, and currently run 3 installs, with 3GB RAM, and a 7800gtx np.
Currently Eve uses far more RAM than it ever did, so the 3gigs is a necessity, for me at least.

No, when you're installing it you can specify a different folder. Just make a shortcut to the exe in that new folder.
