Quote: Now that's funny. So you're attempting to say that CCP billeted the game as a struggle for power and glory to trick people into a shallow game of mining and manufacturing?
They made a game that allows a player to immerse themself in a universe aside from the one they live in every day. The game features and modes are all supportive of THAT, not, as you assert, fighting.
You stated that everything is to support fighting and wars. It could easily be reversed to say that everything is to support mining (you fight for territory so people can mine) or any of the other game professions, it is simply a matter of how you look at it.
Since it has gone this far, I want to voice my true opinion on the matter and wander away from logic and fact for a bit...
If you wanted a fighting game, you would have bought one. There are plenty available (Planetside is even a persistant world fighting game). These games are made for short lived adrenaline rushes and player skill involving complex keystrokes and creative mouse movement. EVE is a MMORPG by all accounts. It is intended to provide a social interaction between people who would not normally find themselves interacting in a fictional universe as much akin to fantasy as science fiction.
Jash and several others argue that EVE is a "fighting" game. I find that... funny.
I have competed at an international level in FPS games for over four years now. I didn't buy EVE to fight because that is NOT what it is meant to be. Fighting is, without a doubt, a necessary and intricately woven piece of the whole. But it is NOT the primary OR only focus.
My suggestion is that all of the pieces of EVE have seen equal amounts of development and therefore deserve an equal amount of respect granted to those that participate in them. Fighting is NOT better than mining. Mining is NOT better than trading, etc. They should all be considered equal, as they all have their intricacies, personalities and heros.
Anyone who looked at the EVE packaging and HONESTLY thought they were getting a fighting game should investigate their interpretive skills and maybe train them up another level (feel free to see a little read thread I posted earlier this week: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=65465). Fighting in EVE, just like every other aspect, revolves around teamwork and careful planning. It does NOT require gameplay skills that are unique to it in the EVE universe. It requires the EXACT same gameplay skills as the other professions and activities, just applied differently. In light of that fact I grow tired of the PK'ing crowd asserting their dominance of the EVE universe and attempting to constantly flood others with their opinions and drive them to play the game a way that is contrary to their choosing.
I think I've said enough... for now. ------------------------------------- // The views expressed by this poster are not the views of the poster's corporation, alliance, planet or television network... but they should be. |
