On the other hand, yes. It was worth it. It gave another reason for the kids to bug their daddies about the new graphic cards. That's why ATI stock was up recently

Eyecandy was cool... for about 1 minute.. then i realized my fps dropped like a stone even with the advanced settings turned way way down. (yeah my system was rated to run the new graphics)
So i switched back to classic now and atleast now i don't have to worry about low fps, just lag
Sadly impo the eyecandy could not hide the fact that this patch must have been the biggest nerfpatch in eve history (not even mentioning all the bugs) and did do squat for the people in crowded areas.
Oh and before u drop ur ' omg leave system so and so!' don't bother, i'm planning on leaving my hellhole somewhere in january anyways cuz thats eve, adapt or die, so i will adapt as usual. CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Originally by: Major Death So, we now have a game where its easier to list what is working than what is bugged. Was this worth the Eye Candy?
Ironically, the eye candy is the biggest change and the least buggy.
It hasn't made a huge difference to my overall eve experience but its a step in the right direction. This is only the beginning

Yes.
The bugs will be fixed. I like the new graphics.
These things are never truely tested until released to the mass.

Runs smoother, looks awesome, new ships, other new gubbins, well needed nerfage and some bugs in POS warfare that dont affect me in any way whatsoever.
I think this update has been a roaring success. Now if they'd just patch out some of the glitches that are GAURANTEED to happen in such a large code change then things would be awesome.

No...
Sorry but for all the raving about it I don't notice the eyecandy at all. Its the gameplay I like about eve... just like Elite was worth playing when it was wireframe! Even with the GF playing beside me on the non premium client I just don't notice the difference during play (and yes I have a large widescreen monitor and decent graphics card with everything turned on).
All it seems to me this new patch has brought is bugs and stability issues. GF laptop which never crashed on eve ever now crashes constantly when undocking - and then it will crash instantly when back ingame unless you delete certain directories in the cache folder... not ideal really.
For the non fatal crashes there are so many niggling issues (flickering names of targets, all sorts of settings not being saved, window positions changing all the time), some downright crazy design decisions (why the hell did they make things SMALLER, on a decent res with lots of screen real estate why on earth force us to have even smaller overview's / fonts / hide the calculator away when the whole side pannel is blank??) and of course the very serious issues of pos's etc that got through, and the fact that systems like jita are worse than ever.
Frankly I liked a refined game, it seems to me we're just going to be going through a long period of testing again.

When I first upgraded to the permium edition and had a look over the new graphics, I wasn't very impressed. Yes, they looked better, but not by much as the textures were blurry and edges were very jaggy. Then I read something in an unrelated post about upping your graphics card map settings and, oh boy, what a difference! Added maxed AA and AF, then turned on HDR and bloom. With all the gubbins turned on EVE does look rather special.
However... there are some significant issues around. I've purposely not done too much until we get a patch but as my EVE time is limited, that isn't too much different from normal. I remember the bad old days of releases and patches when EVE would become unplayable for a week or so after each deployment, so even with the issues this isn't the worst release of EVE I've experienced!
So... was it worth it? Yes, I think it was.
Cheers, Arrs

Turned off the eye-candy for more FPS!
EVE is not about how it looks, its about how it plays! For new players the shiny graphics might make them play, but for older players it means utterly little.
For myself, there's plenty of good stuff in this new expansion: Carrier hauler adjustment Mineral compression nerf Torps being changed to a proper short-range weapon Marauders HIC's
The 2-3 first ones were essential game balance changes that corrects imbalances in game mechanics, and the 2-3 last ones are very good for me personally. In addition, I feel that doing stuff generally go 'faster' after the patch.
Some of the bugs are annoying, but: They'll get fixed soon enough! Most of them doesn't really affect the average players day-to-day activities!
Only 3 of the serious bugs affect me directly.... POS warfare ban (hooray, keep it forever, the whole POS warfare system sucks!!!) Jump clone problem Jita being worse than usual ...but none of these are really serious problems....
I was affected by the boot.ini problem, but it was stupidly easy to fix...

Waste of money. I don't care though, I only ever payed 3 months subscription. I'm pretty sure when the new MMO comes out (you know which one im talking about if you're in the beta) then this game will be left behind.

Welp....
Seriously. This launch was a bit bumpy, but it WAS a major recoding. Anyone involved in software development knows it's a major new version comes with teething pains.
Was it worth it? Of course. If we didn't bite the bullet and do the painful major revisions, we'd still be playing Zork. ------------------------------------------

Yeah... I've heard that about almost EVERY "grreat new MMO in Beta."
We'll see. ------------------------------------------
