Could this also be applied to EVE to some extent?
Read the news items of 10-Dec-2007 here, especially the detailed explanation and analysis found here.

They are removing "Balanced Trade", so that you cannot give stuff to your friends or to another of your account.
It is a huge limitation and could not possibly apply to EvE.

While it was a nice thought for Runescape, it wont work for EVE. Runescape puts prices on just about everything, and only a few player made things can fluctuate. Quest items a bit too, but thats about it. For the even trade program to work in EVE, the game code would have to keep up with the going averages of every item people make, which fluctuates greatly. ___________________

Wouldn't you also have to equalize prices across regions and basically remove trading and scamming as a profession? ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in pink Forum Warfare |

This update and the pvp nerf are by far the worst updates in Runescape history. Jagex has effectively destroyed merchanting and PVP in its game.
So glad I stopped playing this game years ago. The random events alone were enough to chase me off, I never macroed but as soon as Evil Bob started transporting you away to pop random balloon animals so that you could go back to doing whatever boring task you were doing in the first place (eg standing in a bank typing over and over again "selling <item> <price>") I knew it was time to quit.
Fact of Runescape is that it's terrible game mechanics make people have a HUGE desire to either macro or buy GP/items. Getting 99 fletching was a blast... sit in the bank for hours at a time first carving the bows (27 at a time) and then adding strings to them (14 at a time - of course you had to spin the strings from flax or pay outrageous prices)... the game just begs for people to macro.
Jagex wastes their time thinking of ways to stop macros without ever addressing the problem that creates them. Yes CCP please do as Jagex does.

They should go the route of RIAA... CCP should send cease and desist notices to all host site owners of ISK selling websites notfiying them that their customers (the ISK seller) is in violation of their copyright. These hosters will follow standard protocall and remove the site for fear of a nice fat lawsuit. Of course, this will need to be initiated by CCP's US office for true effectiveness... God Bless the US legal system.

Edited by: Karma on 10/12/2007 21:10:35 in terms of ISK-sell-spammers, I think the best approach would be to take a leaf from WoWs book...
right-click person's name >> report spam.
if you report someone, you can't see anything any of their characters on that account says... (without adding them to your ignore-list) ... and if enough people report someone, it goes on a list for Blizzard (or in this case, CCP) to investigate.
right-click > report (x10-15 times) > listed > investigated > account banned.
doesn't change the fact that isk-spammers will still be using trial-accounts... but some form of restriction to trial-accounts might be an idea... like not being able to link a website? or... some kind of filter which edits out spam of that nature? I dunno.

Why not remove currency altogether and use a "general resources statistic" such as the d20 Modern Wealth Bonus or the Storytelling System Resources Merit?

The spammers is the smallest problem you gotta deal with. they go away automatically if you get rid of bots, since they have nothing to sell.
This would not work for EVE, to any extent, it would ruin the market, since it couldn't be player-driven anymore.

For this method to work in eve, you'd have to:
- Set minimum and maximum prices for all items
- Allow only sales, not item transfers
- Remove the feature that allows you to 'wire' isk to someone
This would totally alter the Eve economy, plus make having an alt impractical.
Verdict = not going to happen

it could theoretically work the other way around too... if their means of reaching new customers were reduced, they'd lose money, and have to fire some of their bot-controllers = less bots... in theory anyway. atleast it'd get rid of the people who buy isk without knowing it's against the rules.

dont i read like 50 posts after someone threatens to sue CCP, that they cannot touch CCP legally because they are icelandic.
If so how come CCP can operate out of a us office to sue others.

@ OP you made me read all this just to get it to say no unbalanced trade.
Do you play eve? Or did you get your friend to post for you? Seriously this is the dumbest suggestion I have ever seen on the forums.
How are pirates going to be able to ransom people? ETC ETC ETC
More lawsuits please though

Yes indeed it is, with many people having more than one account, you couldn't give your alt things. On top of that you couldn't help corp mates, and corp hangers wouldn't work if you fully implemented that kind of restriction. Couldn't even have 0 cost courier contracts to be carrier by alliance ops for the purpose of sorting as that would be exploited to. Would never work in the long run and would break oh so very much :)

Those 50 posts are wrong.
You can sue anyone, anywhere as long as you can get a judge to take on the case. And as Linden Labs found out it doesn't matter if you have a clause in your EULA saying you can't. If a judge says you can, you can.

This stuff just kills me!!!!! Just like real life we make laws and rules to hurt the real people and leave the isk sellers to go on! They do not work! wake up! This game is just like real life, we spend wasted time trying to fix an easy problem. Kill as many of there miners as possible till they can not afford to run there buisness in real life of EVE! If it is there people will buy, no matter what you do! SO stop wasting time saying how CCP can fix this let us pirates do it for you and all will be fine! But the ones of us who risk the problems of low sec get pop when we come back to high sec to get supplies so we can kill the ones you complain about! Does any one see the ironie of this or is it just me! I run the resk of getting to high of - standing when i have gone there kill the miners and try to return so i Quit!!!! Now you want CCP to Fix this problem by writing code to stop them! When it is hard enough to write code so the game works better ( Like Jita Lag!!!) So keep it up here peeps we will kill this great game with laws just like our countrys do now to stop the bad guy's NO GUNS who has guns bad guys!!Good guys no guns they are good guys!!! SO end less laws to stop the problem that Will not go away usless we stop it, but the laws already stop us from doing just what you need!!! Enough said this will keep going around and around! Just let CCP give us bads EVE that is go to low sec kill the mac haulers and come back to high sec and not get poped if we show in the kill mail that it is a hauler for the isk sales peeps then we should beable to get our standing changed so we can come back and play by the rules and keep playing this great game!!
Just my 2 isk not worth much!!!! Sethfon
