Seems like alot of work, with the potential for alot of bugs and exploits, for minimal gain. ctrl-q then double click the icon on the desktop doesnt take THAT long.
Also, iirc, you could do what you are asking at one point, but it was removed because of an exploit where if you logged on another char on the same account, the first char immediately disappeared from space, agressed or not....but this has been fixed, so who knows if the old code can be salvaged and put back to use.

the problem is that as eve has gotten larger and larger it has taken longer and longer to exit and open the client...
if you hit escape the should just be an option to log out to the character selection screen, no?

I too would like this feature--anecdotally I remember a dev once stated this was intentional so far as it was a security measure to help protect the other 2/3 of your account. It sounds like a silly justification for a non feature but there you have it. ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

the main problem with this is that you have to enter the password each time which is annoying they should just reinstate password storage which would solve it for all.

The same password storage mechanism which allowed a ctrl+c, ctrl+v to Notepad to see the password in normal letters?

no it'd be even longer than just typing it. you seem to suggest <<open file in notepad, select, ctrl+c, launch eve, click password click, shift+ins>>, instead of simple <<launch eve, press enter>> sequence? it's silly...
and yes I know about mouse/keyboard automation, but it's irrelevant.

The option to store your p.wrd has always been in eve. Go check your pref.ini file.

Reading Comprehension FTL. Hes referring to a sloppy security issue. I guess somebody else could fire up your eve client on a PC you were just at, have it automatically fill in you account name and password, then copy that password out of eve and into notepad where the characters were recognizable.

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 12/12/2007 07:15:03 because not 100% of people are geniuses capable of remembering (and not ever forgetting) dozens of different passowrds, people will store their passwords in text files (especially passwords for stupid useless mmo games) regardless of ccp liking this or not, so only thing ccp achieved by removing this feature was annoying the userbase.

The ability to switch characters was in eve in the early days - but after 2 login's you would get a currputed client [possibly down to holding onto things too long when freeing up everything ] - this was removed and you get less currupted clients now
the exploit mentioned wasn't the case - it was more like having another client sat waiting with the username | password ready to go and hitting that when the need arrised - this hasn't worked for an age or tow now [AFAIK]
the password in the box - could be copied out of the box and into note pad and you got to see it in plain text

I think main issue why it's not implemented is that logging in your alt forces (or at least used to, have not cheked lately) your another character to dissapear from space, even if he has active agression timer.
If sutch screen would be implemented it would be needed to implement also feature preventing you to log into any other character on same account except the one with agression counter (in case you actually managed to crash, not just log out).

only reason this is not implemented is the lazyness.
