After a long break we're back with the Live Dev Blogs and first out is of course one about the Trinity expansion. The people answering questions this time will be Hammerhead and Zulupark, so we would appreciate if your questions are about the new content and game design in Trinity. The new thing is that we will have one person asking the questions rather than have our speakers do it themselves, and the honor falls upon Mindstar.
As usual this will taker place in the "Live Dev Blog" in game channel this Thursday, 3 december, from 20:00 to 21:00 GMT. To participate you'll need EVE Voice active and then join the in game channel and join audio. A recording of the Live Dev Blog will be made available at a later date.
Asking questions is easy, just post your questions here! Please remember that the topic is the Trinity expansion and we'll focus on content and game design, other questions may not be answered.

Edited by: Treelox on 12/12/2007 00:54:37 my question for the dev panel;
"What changes do you think need to happen to the QnA and bughunting process, in light of all the game design flaws of pre patch exsisting systems that crept through?"
Follow up to that;
"Does the utilization of SiSi when trinity was in beta, actually generate a significant ammount of bug reports from the player base about content and game mechanics, or does it seem that most players are just loggin on to get advanced notice of changes, instead of actively assisitng in the beta process by filing bug reports?"
a different line of questioning;
"what is on the drawing board for the next addon patch to trinity?"
I look forward to hearing your answers.

Edited by: Grimpak on 12/12/2007 01:24:00 3 questions:
"considering the ARM scripts introduction, and the specialized ships, can some sort of change be done to the dampners and tracking disrutptors? ARM scripts pratically cutted their efficiency in half, altho we should consider that the modules that boost the stats that these modules aim to nerf also suffered. However, dampners recieved a further 30% cut in their effectiveness, decreasing the performance in the ships they are a primary module (gallente Ewar boats). true that a nerf was needed, but why not using the same thing that CCP made to caldari, IE, "we cut X% out of the ECM modules, but increase the ECM bonuses on the same X%." Also, is there any plans for Tracking disruptors recieve any sort of boost? comparing with even target painters, wich can be more usefull, they are very subpar."
2nd question
"the eos issue was that, for a fleet command ship, it was being used outside the scope of it's predicted role as a field command ship with better resists. The nerf it recieved was needed, altho exagerated, since the tank of the eos is somewhat subpar, comparing with the other 3 command ships and information warfare links are not that great, at least with the bonuses it has. What is the thoughts about this ship?"
3rd question
"at the moment there are two things that many people will agree that need some sort of change: amarr and assault frigates. Surely while I agree that amarr are not that bad as they seem, they do have some very subpar ships, when compared with all the other races (tech1 frigate line lacks 1 ship, tech1 cruiser line has only 1 useable ship, apoc's problems). Also there is the problem of the Assault frigates being pretty much meh. they try to use the best of 2 worlds, but end up having the worse (cruiser like agility and speeds, and not that much firepower and tank). There is the idea of them having a web immunity role, while maintaining their agility and speed, much improving their survivability, while maintaining some semblance of balance. There is also the case of the missing 4th bonus, and some specific cases (like the retribution and the hawk). What are the plans from CCP for these issues?"
there, hope I explained myself well. ---

1. Drones now have the focus fire option - how does this work when you scoop and relaunch them, WHEN you are jammed?
FWIW, previously they used to work like FOF missiles - choosing targets at random - now there is no way to really jam a complete drone boat.
2. Mineral compression nerf:
I am sure you yourself know the quesiton here, but anyway - where is the super veld that was promised for the 0.0 alliances? as of now, logistics is ****ty and mining veld in 0.0 is not a viable option.
2.a. Mining boost:
this has been talked about in many threads - the mining profession is not really profitable nowadays unless you have an army of alts - why wasn't this boosted?
3. Invention cost of T2 freighters:
These look like will cost around 8 bn - which is double / triple the proposed worth - Would this be changed?
4. nothing flashes when we get a KM - why?
5. Do you think interdictors are in good shape now? <FWIW, I don't think so - after the massive speed nerf across board. only sabre would have been fine>
6. Where is the drone repair module? a extra 25m3 in a 125 m3 boat <myrm> is not good enough when your drones get popped.
7. Jump clones .... thanks!

Do ccp plan to alter this new mail system to be as earlier described? The other issue with this new system is that the person recieving the log, doesnt get a notification, which means that every gang member has to look in their log to see if they got the mail or not, if ccp dont plan to change the system so that all participants get a copy, will they make a change that notifies the person who recieved the mail that he does have it, such as a flash of the character sheet for example ?

Important to ask this, cus ppl seem'd to have missed this..
What happen'd to "orbit Station" Button in settings in the premium client?? i like that feature and it is gone? why?
it is still there in the classic trinity client. tho it seems bug'd.. it just makes the ship spin on its axis now for some reason...
if the premium client is the future can we have this back?

1) Does Zulupark need bodyguards because allot of players blame him for some of the "balancing" done ?
2) Will specialised EWAR ships get a second look at their (now nerfed) module bonuses ? For example arazu . As for tracking disruptors ... whats your take on them ?
3)Amarr needs moar shiny! Will some of the models/skins get another look at ? Example being the gallente baby blue (in my opinion i like it ), Omen looking like the t2 version now (i dont particularly like that its more shiny than the zealot), or some caldari ships looking dull in 1 single color tone without hdr
4)Amarr stations inside needs more color variation yes no ?
5)Are there any plans to add more new and sexy things like umm more variety in station insides or are you trying to get a rest from moddeling and skinning now ?
6) HDR + FSAA yes, no, maby, idk im scared ?
7)My favorite question Why wasnt Amarr buffed with trinity (perfect timing ? e.g. less whines because ppl are busy whining about other stuff that concerns them more )
8) How do you devs handle the daily abuse being thrown at you ? after all your just humans errr i mean jovians

The new ship icons in the "classic" version of the client (I don't know how they look with premium content enabled) are extremely blurry/lacking in contrast and make for a lot of confusion. Some of them are impossible to tell apart from the little overview icon (esp. Caldari ships, Raven and Drake for instance - theyre both just a blue blur), and some of them still even when you've locked them, which can lead to quite some fatal mistakes!
- Any chance of them getting improved or reverted back to the old ones (which were perfectly fine btw)?

"Regarding the changes to the volume of some modules. Overall the changes would appear to be inconsistently applied and generally unrelated to the mineral requirements for the modules. Could you explain the reasoning behind these changes and whether they are operating as intended? The changes have far reaching impact on many players (mission runners and ratters among others - anyone who loots) and not just on those shipping minerals from empire to 0.0 compressed into modules.
Some examples of the seeming inconsistencies (and there are many others): M size Heavy Beam Laser I - 100m3 - requires about 1/5 of the minerals of L size Dual Heavy Beam Laser I - 50m3
Remote Sensor Booster I - 100m3 - requires about the same minerals as Sensor Booster I - 5m3
Small Hull Repairer I - 50m3 Medium Hull Repairer I - 10m3 Large Hull Repairer I - 50m3
Prisoners - 7.5m3 - I have no idea why the volume of prisoners would have changed at all"

Will we see ARM scripts used elsewhere as a more optional (see: non-critical/balance fix) component? For instance to give the Triage module a more varied use?
Could you guys elaborate on CCP's primary goals for EVE Voice, and how it can be used for fleet battles. Also, is there any chance we could have a taskbar process or some other semi-out of game interface to this amazing tool?
OH 1 last question ... Is it true I have to go to faction 0.0 (Syndicate, GW) to get the gas mining/drug manufaturing stuff?

i am wondering if the ultimate goal of trinity is to reduce lag by encourging gallente pilots to give up completely the idea of flying ships in space.. i should wonder if future patches might just get to the point directly and remove all spaceship command skill points from gallente chars, rather than this slow miserable program of constantly having the race ships absolutly useless .. you folks could put a warning at the char selection screen stating that a gallente char will be useless for anything but sitting in station.. of course then i am sure the joke would be over and what fun would that be?

Hi,
Regarding Sensor Dampers and the changes in trinity.
I understand the need for changes and lessening the ability of any ship to be able to use these with simple devasting effect, but why have the arazu and other ships with bonus for said damping not received booster bonus to compensate.
Surely its only fair this should happen as when ecm was nerfed the caldari ships with bonus for ecm received a ecm bonus to compensate.
This on top of the extra ecm bonus some of the caldari have received in the trinity patch.
This can also be said of amarr recons with the tracking disruptor, again tracking disruptors have been nerfed in the sense that a script is required and only 1 of the original bonuses can be used at anyone time, and even then the effect is diminished to what it was originally.
Primarily the pilgrim as a solo weapon of mass destruction as it once was, is relegated to a gang ship and even then with the nos nerf its ability have further been diminished.
My question is will these glaring between differences between racial ew be addressed at some point.
Thank you.

I had thought that the Premium client was supposed to increase performance by offputting some of the graphic duties to your graphics card and away from the CPU. But all I've experienced and heard is lower framerates from the Premium client, even on higher-end graphics cards. Can someone explain this? And that's with settings turned down, no one seems capable of running extreme settings at a decent framerate.

I was sort of under the impression that ECM modules were going to recieve changes that would bring them more along the lines of the other EWAR modules, that you could load a new script to change your jamming type, as opposed to having to fit a whole new module. Am I off in thinking that this would have made some sense?

Now that torpedoes have had their damage boosted, they have better damage than many other close and mid-range weapons and also can change damage types. Is it a concern that the new torpedoes make other comparable weapons obsolete in comparison? (e.g. A torp raven with a nice active tank does substantially more DPS than a Mega Pulse Laser Armageddon, and although that's possibly offset by missile travel time, differences in tackling ability, relative total ship hitpoints, and utility in remote repping battleship gangs, it still is sort of a concern)
In light of the changes to carrier logistics and other possible changes that could be on the horizon, are there any plans to introduce super-yield low-end ores to extreme deep 0.0? Is the Orca still planned for release in a new content patch in the coming months?
In reference to Nozh's thread in Features and Ideas, would it be possible to implement some kind of in-game application that can display a corporation's towers' fuel levels and if they're being attacked instead of the antiquated eve-mail notification system? In Trinity there's this new bug where anyone in a corp with roles of any kind receives director mails about POS notifications and applications, and over one day I can get probably 100-200 eve-mails about POSes running out of fuel, and it really seems like there could be a better way than this.
other than that i'm good |
