Currently carebearing, but as the title suggests, I feel the Yarr growing in me. Any suggestions?
I have a fair amount of wealth, so ship losses are more or less trivial. I remember hearing about corps that taught this kinda thing.

Edited by: Tai Paktu on 12/12/2007 05:07:45 Alternatively, if you want a corp to learn you some PvP, both EVE University and Agony Unleashed run PvP basics as well as more advanced courses. I haven't taken them but I hear their both quite good, heard some very good thigns about Agony's. I don't have the links to their forums handy but I'm sure a search of the forums could turn that up. Or they'll be in shortly.

I highly recommend Agony. I've taken some of their courses, and it's a lot easier (and safer) to learn it from them, rather than to try and figure it out yourself... you also get a fair bit of actual 0.0 combat experience in their classes.

Agreed. Trial by fire is the best way. You'll lose like crazy at first but you learn something with each mistake you make. |

Meh I've never been one for universities. That said, finding a decent pvp corp that will accept a nub pilot is hard, but I did so for quite a few pilots when my corp was coming up from nothing, so it's by no means impossible. It's a steep learning curve but once you pick it up the ball really starts to roll.

I'm sorry to inform you that...
... PvP was abducted by six unidentified men wearing black trenchcoats and sunglasses, bound and gagged, and thrown into the trunk of a Ford Fairlane with the licence plates 'CCP-WTF'. On a cold and misty morning, it was dragged out unto a moist forest floor in upper Oregon, where it was put out of it's misery with six shots to the head and buried in a shallow grave next to Jimmy Hoffa.

As I'm sure others have said/will say.
Rifter + lowsec = training.
Try Eifer or Evati, plenty of others around there doing much the same. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

Wow, four consecutive referrals in a row! Thanks guys! We must be doing something right!
If you are new to PvP, feel free to sign up for a PvP Basic class. We introduce you to basic frigate fitting, how to use Ewar, some basic techniques, then take you out into 0.0 for some pew pew. Agony doesn't operate in lowsec, but there's no reason why you can't apply what you've learned with us there. Things are slightly different, you have to worry about sec status (or not), and sentry guns (or not) in lowsec. PvP in 0.0 is pretty much a free for all, so I prefer the simplicity.
Feel free to have a look at the link in my sig, and PM me if you have any questions.
Cheers! -Dez --- PvP Training: www.agony-unleashed.com, "Veni, Vidi, Caedi" |

Agony is crap.
Big bunch of noobs trying to do the art.
If you want to learn how to do it, pick a pirate corporation, they will learn you all the tricks you need.

It might sound rather blunt, but really I think you should just read some guides of good frig setups, figure out which fits your style more, train up some mediocore skills for it, and fit 15-20 of them up and go out and pvp.
Why would I say this? Well, you can't always rely on being in gangs to pirate - and being an outlaw you can get jumped solo on gates, etc, so learning how-to solo effectively (ie. pick your targets, avoid being baited/camps) is a very important skill. If you find you don't enjoy soloing I really doubt piracy is going to be something you'd enjoy all-together.
That's just my opinion, hope you figure out something that'll work for you.

Don't lose ships, learn to be efficient, DO NOT join an academy(being treated like 2nd class corp members is rediculous). Choose your race, train skills in that race, ensure you can use all modules needed and how to fit your ship. Then go out, mess around and just learn. Number one lesson is learn How to not be stupid.

Quoted for truth.
Metafarmers are recruiting new pirates , who seek to become outlaws and help clear the farmer infestation. It is not meant for alts , we look for dedicated members.

I'd comment on the not joining an "academy" corp but I'll rather focus on just this.
I'm not sure about you but for me personally most of the time I learn more when I lose a ship than when I kill someone else. I learn that maybe I should have handled the situation differently, and even if it isn't evident to me of how I should have gone about it differently I just ask around and see what others say. Plus frigs only cost like what? 1mil to get a decent fit - so yeah. Don't concern yourself with losing ships, it happens and you know what, as long as you try to figure out WHY you lost and how to better handle it, it isn't that big of a deal. I engage anything and everyone in my rifters, I don't care - it's worth a shot.

some good advice in this thread.
a rifter is good.
a punisher works nicely as well.
incursus is a blast (lol)
kestrel/merlin a bit meh, will frustrate you a lot.
stick to the holy trinity when fitting + trimmings if slots allow. avoid ships that dont allow the trinity in the beginning.
learn how to use the scanner, pick a couple of systems and practice finding ppl as fast as possible. try to pinpoint ppl within 60 seconds, the longer you take, the less likely you are of catching something.
a miner who isnt asleep will likely have warped off within a minute of seeing a negative-sec in system.
Be daring! be bold, and downright suicidal at times, itll help you learn what works and what doesnt.
final tip from me is to go alone and experience it all yourself. experience is the best tutor after all.
once you have sharpened your teeth you can start looking for a corp to go hunt with.

Appreciate the recommendation, but our corporate recruitment is currently closed. It will likely re-open in January or February.
That being said, lots of great new classes starting up after the holidays.
