as i already stated once, im intentionally a bit behind the technological advancement of computers. it saves me a lot of money
i recently upgraded a little bit and now im wondering... which games do you think did i miss 2005/2006 (and maybe a bit of 2007)?
to help you determine my taste: i think even old system shock 1 > every part of halo every need for speed after part 3 sucked donkey balls or to make it short: gameplay/fun > looks.
so far i got oblivion and HL2 on the list.
im looking forward to your suggestions, help me waste my vacation real good

dawn of war and its expansions, they are basically a taste of what starcraft II will be--if you don't like the grunge of wh40k there's the WWII version company of heroes
other than that the only other drop everything and play game is Call of duty 4, brings some light RPG love to punishing multiplayer ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

its too easy, otherwise the writing is above average for a pc game and ofcourse the morality system is as deep as two dimensional kotor and friends ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

im a huge morrowind fan but i have to admit that oblivion isnt too bad, kinda small in my opinion but the silgrad tower mod fixes that ---------------------------

Oblivion. People can complain about it's weaknesses, but the fact is that it's a great game amongst some... not as good ones.
Crysis. I personally just like the heap of cinematic moments in the game, especially the Assault level. Jets crashing 10 feet away looks cool.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted is one of the best imho - It's got everything, including police. It's a lot more fun that all the other NFS except the first 3, and actually looks the best out of all of them for some reason too.
Rainbow Six: Vegas. Simplified from the previous versions, but also simply a lot of fun. The graphics and seting also make it one of the more immersive games around, even now. The gameplay is actually quite like Gears of War, but better, somehow, for the PC.
The Orange Box. Portal is the best thing to happen for gaming in years. It's just that cool. Ep2 and TF2 are just extra's as far as i'm concerned - however good they might be.
Darwinia. Simply worth a check due to it's uniqueness (and cheapness, now :) )

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 12/12/2007 17:05:02 You're right, there haven't been that many great games in the past 2 years. Even Oblivion isn't that great; its vastly inferior to Morrowind, just as Bioshock is vastly inferior to System Shock 2. However, there are some goodies.
Team Fortress 2 STALKER Portal Supreme Commander
are the ones I can think of right now.
I'd say that of these, in terms of overall enjoyment, STALKER is the best single player, and Team Fortress 2 the best multiplayer.

ok... lemme get this straight... try to name some games that are less demanding than crysis, or telling from the screenshots, cod 4.
but speaking of cod... i NEVER played a single part of it... if i would say, part 4 looks to hefty for my rig (eyecandywise), which part would be the best alternative, and why? if part 4 is simply the best, then tell me why? (tell me its got real gameplay reasons )
farcry for Ç 10, you think its worth it? only played the demo back then.. i think the free promo version is no longer available.
darwinia looks promising.
what about the game where you get to play the evil mastermind? what was it called? was it good?
oh and i got dawn of war. i think its a fun way of RTS.

DEFCON was a great game. And games like that will never go out of style. I really want to play a proper real time 6 hour game one of these days, just for the tension of having that kind of thing go on all day ------

Defcon is probably the best relatively short LAN party strategy game ever.

Um, no. If memory serves me right, Nuclear War was turn based and had all the other "typical" strategy game stuff in it like building up your stuff before launching an attack. Moreover, you lost if you got all your cities blown up. In Defcon you just deploy your units at the start, and you can keep fighting as long as you still have anything to fight with, regardless of how much megadeaths you suffer. Tactics-wise, I think Defcon is a lot deeper. And, of course, it has multiplayer.

Dawn of War - looking at that to buy. Problem is - do I need to know all the Warhammer back story to understand it or can a chap that knows the general outline and some fuzzy bits play and enjoy it?
