due to an incident last night i came to wonder over this
Why does minmatar systems have 6 sentry guns at gates, while the other empires have 2???
what's ccp's reason and logic in that? just curious

Get a friend to sit on one side of a Minmatar gate until he is 0m away from it.
Move to the opposite side to him until you're at 0m from the gate.
Look at how close he is to you and compare.
Freaky.

We Mins are paranoid, so we overprotect out gates from the Amarrian hoards. It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!

as u just did here, i can also come up with 10 different ingame/rp reason why, navy sucks they need more gate protection etc etc etc
im intrested in the real gamemechanic reason, as they are as effective as the other sentry guns, 6 of em seems a little overkill to me

Its my belief that Minmatar guns must be much less powerful. I havn't gone around doing any serious study or anything, but from my experience 1 Amarr turret would put a serious hurting on my cruiser (rupture)before I could warp, even if I was alrady aligned. And today I was blasted by a couple of BS from Sneaky Magic (which at this time we are not at war with) right outside a station with 2 minmatar turrets. The BS did'nt seem to take any damage before I was destroyed, and the guns did'nt engage them aftarwards (they were less than 5K from me and did'nt leave the area afterwards).
Again I don't know the exact damage and types, but from my tilt I'd say Amarr turrets are much more effective than a minmatar turret.

i dont think thats the case, i mean why make em weaker, and if its the case 6 is overkill, i saw a fully tanked apoc get crushed in 10 sec by the 6 sentry guns, thats not weak

Other races also have 6 guns at the gates, I have seen various Gallente systems with them. I don't get to Amarr much but it's probably the same.

not all gates or stations in Minmatar space have 6 guns, some have 4 some have 2.
I would guess it has somthing to do with more or less strategic systems but I havent really done any study on it.
Sadly however they are all placed on the same axis and thus do not maximize their efect.

it's because the minmatar sentry guns are just disembodied turrets, while the other races get sentry guns that have bodies.

Joshua didn't want to hijack your thread, he wanted to show you how big Minmatar stargates are (and they are freakishly monstrous), and that that is the reason for the 6 guns.
Though I have seen 6 guns at other gates than in Minmatar space.
