Does "baiting" include stealing 9,000m3 of Ore from a newbie in Empire space with just an Iteron?

Hi spaw, yes it is petionable in rookie systems but it takes about 45 mins for a GM response to it
It also used to be how Dark Nova picked out future war targets. When our guys would want a fight we'd fly through the rookies systems and observe the can baiters. 48 hours later they'd be dec'd and hiding in stations.

No, it refers to leaving cans labeled "Free stuff" or whatever outside starter stations hoping to catch new players.
Great way to introduce someone to EVE- first time they undock, they think someone's being nice to them and (demoman)ka-beeewwm!(/demoman).

Right, so I can steal ore, and still bask in the knowledge that I'm slightly higher on the EVE food chain than the Newb Baiters?

Ore theft is perfectly allowable. As far as level on the food chain, I take no position regarding ore thieves. ;)
Not my cup of tea, but it's totally allowed in the game mechanics. But I don't know anyone who approves of ganking newbs in Velators on their first trip outside the station except the gankers themselves. It's just sad.

I believe nothing should be petitionable. It would be against the spirit of EvE (anarchy).
However, baiting newbs is asshattery of the highest order and people doing that should be griefed until the cows come home.
The trouble is there is no mechanics for dealing with people in NPC corps.

If i remember correctly, GMs don't exactly take too kindly to people who bait in newbie systems and have little problem in delivering swift punishment to that type of gamer.

Their first time out in the game...I just realized that when a newbie is blown up they still get a new velator in the station anyway...I think.
And if this is true are they falling for this same trick(after seeing that popup warning) over and over again?

I'm asking because I see guys killing loads of new players by sitting beside a can named "free drones" and claiming in local they are old ones they don't need anymore. I think this is a sad thing to do even if it is legal and I would like to do something about it.
Real stupid, What fun is that? And all it does is make new players unwelcome. One way PvP is so lame lol. |

And there you go.....
So each newbie undock for the first time....falls for this trick(after seeing popup)...get blown up.....get new ship automatically. They don't lose much if anything at all. They don't lose implants.
So they leave the game.....

Majestik: A newbie has no idea what anything is worth. All he knows is that he just started the game and was killed somehow for some reason he can't understand. It's disheartening for most, I'm sure. It's totally uncool.
Makes me want to roam the starter systems in a good pvp ship, scooping up all the bait cans I can find. Take all those petty gankers and bring them on myself. I think a Drake with an EFT perma-omnitank score of 1081 would be able to tank any solo ship long enough to frustrate them and/or waste their time. It would be especially good if they assumed I was a newbie taking the bait! Surprise!

Exactly that was petitionable once and probably still is. You were/are not allowed to do that in starter systems. There was an announcment once, ok, maybe not this year, but after newbies got harrassed a lot in their starter system this way.

Yeah, it might seem fun to some of our playerbase, and EVE is designed around a hands-off approach, but for those who make their kicks out of blowing up other players in such a despicable manner, I feel the banhammer is more than justified. After all, were this to happen to a new player, more likely than not they would simply stop playing. That's one less potential customer for CCP, and if this happens daily, well...I think you guys get the picture. |

I'll admit to getting smashed in the face with this very thing when I first started. I had just fitted out my Ibis with a new gun and shield booster (that used up all my very hard earned isk)... went outside the dock, saw a can and clicked. Got the warning, closed the box, clicked something else and got the can again, tried again and got *no* warning.
Was trying to figure out what I just had gotten and was the recipient of a torpedo up the windpipe that not only killed my ship but also my pod (did I mention I had just earned an implant as well?).
Needless to say, I nearly quit. I fumed about the asshat that trapped me for about an hour, cancelled the subscription, but the next day wanted to try again. Still, I will promptly petition anyone doing this to newbies. It isn't Darwin, it is cruel. Nothing less.
