I just want to get a definitive answer on this. Is it ok or is it petitionable? If it is petitionable then under what category?
I'm asking because I see guys killing loads of new players by sitting beside a can named "free drones" and claiming in local they are old ones they don't need anymore. I think this is a sad thing to do even if it is legal and I would like to do something about it.

Edit: but tbqfh, if he new players are too lazy to read the pop up about stealing, they deserve to be popped.

It's very poor gaming really, that person clearly is an ass. Report him as although it's within the rules technically I can't see CCP letting that carry on. He's clearly taking advantage of new players and at the very least CCP will loose customers because these guys first impressions of the game would have been an idiot griefer.

Declaring this to be something worth petitioning because it might drive away customers is the start of a slippery slope tbh. One that will lead to infinite reward for no risk, eventually resulting in World of Evecraft Online.

CCP have said, I believe, that this tactic is petitionable if done in the newbie starting systems. Otherwise it's fine.

Do like I do - talk about it in Local. Noobs still watch that channel as they are still learning the game.
Another tactic - Take the bait yourself and then warp off and stay in sys for 15 mins until the aggression timer stops. At least it gives him a fighting chance.
As for petition this...I don't like it either and I don't think it will be stopped as it is another form of play. Just do all that you can to protect the new players. ________________________

If it was anywhere other than a newbie starting system I would say "suck it up, you got snowed, deal", but these guys are only just learning the game. It's not fair to ruin it for them and there's no real in game reason or profit to be made. It is griefing. It's ruining the game for others, and that's serious.
I agree with the idea of going there in a rookie ship, letting him gank you and get kill rights, then blow him away in a battleship. That just rocks.

Couldn't a veteran player.. say in a long range BS, gang with a noob and then park his BS the 'perfect' distance from the bait can?
Then the noob snatches the can, el-jerko baiter pilot takes his shot at the noob, veteran player vaporizes the el-jerko baiter.
Or does the aggression thing only work for corps and not gangs? |

A noob would not know how to initiate such a convoluted action. Noobs don't know what they don't know. the point is if they know griefers will bait them, they won't take the bait. But they don't...they're noobs.

people who do that must have a really low self esteem CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!! Magners is now recruiting, evemail me or Dagazbo ingame.

Really? It's the whole business idea behind Racketeers, they even take pride in how many from each starter corporation they've shot down and yes they frequently bait people in Todaki system.

like a few others have said, get agro, get a real ship, dispense with moron.
i once had a scorp sat in ammold specially for such an occasion but it never saw any use.
sensor boost, webs, ecms, vamps/missiles and some drones. The idea was to get the target into a situation where you could slowly kill them with one light drone

I'll definitely try the rookieshipaggro/get in proper ship thing. I might petition too but I'm sure CCP has enough petitions to deal with atm and it probably won't stop others from doing it again in the future. Thats if I'm back there any time soon, but any time I DO go there always seems to be a baiter there.

And I am sure most victims realized "lesson learned" and moved forward in the game. A lot stronger.
That's how I learned as a new player long ago losing my mining indy to suicide kestrals. Wish there were popups back then.
New players need to pay attention.

Can-baiting newbies in starter systems is not only petitionable, but gets you the banhammer.
Petition the character(s) you see doing this under Harrassment and watch them vanish from local after a few minutes.

"The noob is made stronger because someone knew how to manipulate game mechanics and pod him" is like arguing that victims of theft are made stronger by getting their **** stolen.
The attempt to justify this pathetic form of griefing is sickening.

People stole my stuff while I was mining. Got an indy to mine with....
Suicide kestrals blew up my indy then stole my stuff. Learned quickly how to fit my ship better... Then no problem....they went elsewhere. No popups. A lot of fun. It is a game.
You become stronger(learn) or have your stuff stolen again or blown up later on at gate camps or what ever else dreamed up in the future manipulation of game mechanics by griefers.

File under Educating The New Ones: It shows them in a very quick and understandable way that this game is full of *******s, and that if they can't handle that then this is probably not the game for them.
Or petition the ******* and get him banned, either works for me tbh.

I had thought of the get aggression and kill the griefer previously when I saw this being done many months ago. BUT, when I took a closer look, I realized the griefer was flying an Astarte.
Using a command ship to kill newbs... sad. Also, more ship than I could take on.
